Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effectiveness of Korean medicine, especially Gami-onchung-eum, for treatment of a patient with Sjogren's syndrome. Methods: The patient, diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome, was suffering from systemic symptoms accompanied by dry mouth, dry eye, and fatigue. We treated her with Korean medicine involving a herbal decoction, acupuncture, moxibustion, and cupping. We used the European League Against Rheumatism $Sj{\ddot{o}}gren^{\prime}s$ Syndrome Patient Reported Index for assessment. Results: Based on the European League Against Rheumatism $Sj{\ddot{o}}gren^{\prime}s$ Syndrome Patient Reported Index, after 28 days of treatment, dry mouth decreased to a score of 5, dry eye decreased to 2, and fatigue decreased to 3. Conclusions: Korean medicine, including Gami-onchung-eum, may be an effective treatment for Sjogren's syndrome.

Purpose: This study was conducted in order to identify the brain injury patients's disability degree and educational needs of family caregivers. Methods: A convenience sample of 94 families with brain injury patients, who have been receiving treatment at the neurological intensive care unit and neurosurgery ward, were used. Data was collected with a self-report questionnaire from September 5 to November 28, 2011, and was analyzed using SAS program. Results: 'Defecation/urination' disability was the highest score of patient's physical disability and the next ranking was 'paralysis'. 'Memory impairment' disability was the highest score of patient's cognitive disability, and the next ranking was 'personality changes'. Overall, educational needs of family caregivers scored 4.15 out of the perfect score of 5. The factor, which scored highest, was 'information related with disease'. In addition, educational needs of family caregivers were positively related with patient's degree of. Conclusion: Educational needs of family caregivers are distinct, according to the disability degree of brain injury patient. Therefore, the study suggests the development of individualized educational program for family with brain injury patient.

Objectives This case study is about a Taeeumin patient with advanced Parkinson's disease identified as Dry-heat (Joyeol) pattern. In this study, we report significant improvement of non-motor and motor symptoms after treatment with Cheongsimyeonja-tang.Methods The patient was identified as Taeeumin Dry-heat (Joyeol) pattern and treated with Cheongsimyeonja-tang and acupuncture. The Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) was used to assess the overall functions of the patient. And the global assessment scale (GAS) was used to assess the improvements of dizziness, bradykinesia and tremor after the treatment.Result and Conclusion The UPDRS total score decreased from 138 points to 86 points after 5 weeks treatment. And symptoms of dizziness caused by hypotension, bradykinesia, and tremor showed significant improvement in GAS after the treatment. Furthermore, sleep disturbance and constipation were reported to be improved after the treatment. In conclusion, this study shows that Sasang constitutional medicine can be effective treatment for Taeeumin patient with advanced Parkinson's disease having orthostatic hypotension.

Methods The patient was identified as Taeeumin Dry-heat pattern and treated with Cheongsimyeonja-tang and acupuncture. And the Global Assessment Scale (GAS) was used to assess the change of bradykinesia, tremor and dry mouth after the treatment. Results The UPDRS total score decreased from 145 points to 77 points after 5 weeks treatment. And symptoms of bradykinesia, tremor and dry mouth showed significant improvement in GAS after the treatment. Furthermore, constipation, sleep disturbance, dysuresia and anorexia were reported to be improved after treatment. Conclusions This study shows that Sasang constitutional medicine can be effective treatment for motor and non-motor symptoms caused by Parkinson's disease.

We report a case of a 51 years old female with a 25 pack year smoking history who underwent bilateral mastectomy and immediate tissue expander reconstruction for newly diagnosed right breast cancer. The patient reported herself as a non-smoker despite significant e-cigarette use, with resulting significant mastectomy skin flap necrosis and breast reconstruction failure. Little is known about the physiologic effect of e-cigarettes on wound healing and tissue perfusion. To this end, we provide an updated review of the impact of e-cigarettes on surgical outcomes. PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, and PRS GO were searched for the terms "e-cigarette", "electronic cigarette", "e-cig", "electronic nicotine delivery system", "vaping", "surgery", "surgical", "peri-operative", "operate", "operative", and "wound healing". Abstract review of all articles was performed. 123 articles returned that contained both variants of e-cigarettes and surgery as keywords. Of those, manual assessment returned three articles which were found to be relevant to e-cigarette use in the surgical patient. No articles were found that compared perioperative complications in e-cigarette versus traditional cigarette users in humans. In conclusion, our case report depicts the potential dangers associated with e-cigarette use in the surgical patient. There is a public misconception that e-cigarettes are healthier than traditional cigarettes and as such their use may go unreported by patients. Early evidence suggests e-cigarettes may induce some of the same physiologic changes as traditional cigarettes, and may have a significant deleterious effect on wound healing.

Objective: This case report presents the effects of traditional Korean medical treatment for a patient with symptoms of the upper burner due to Beçhet's disease. Methods: A 42-year-old male patient was treated with traditional Korean herbal medicine (herbal formulas and patent medicines), acupuncture, and cupping therapy. Neck, ocular, and right wrist pain and xerostomia were assessed daily with a numeric rating scale (NRS) and grading assessment tool for subjective symptoms. Results: For a total of 20 days over two hospitalizations, the patient's neck pain was relieved from NRS 4 to 1, the ocular pain from NRS 5 to 1, the right wrist pain from NRS 7 to 1, and the xerostomia from grade 8 to 1. Conclusion: These results show that Beçhet's disease symptoms of the upper burner can be relieved with traditional Korean medical treatment, although additional well-designed studies are required to confirm these findings.

The most common definition of postherpetic neuralgia is the presence of pain more than a month after the onset of the eruption of zoster. This case report suggests the effect of Korean medicine on postherpetic neuralgia. An 85-year-old male patient with postherpetic neuralgia was treated with a combination of Korean medical remedies. Kyung Hee Gongjin-dan and Hyangbujapalmul-tang-gagam were applied for 23 days. The Numerical Rating Scale was used to measure pain intensity. The Barthel Index and Beck Depression Inventory were used for the functional assessment and depression evaluation, respectively. After treatment, the patient's pain intensity decreased. Additionally, the patient's independence increased during activity, and the severity of their depression decreased. Thus, this case suggests that a combination of Korean medicine treatments might be effective for postherpetic neuralgia. In particular, it shows that Kyung Hee Gongjin-dan and Hyangbujapalmul-tang-gagam can be therapeutic options in the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia.

본 증례에서는 수면 중 이갈이에 의해 발생한 턱관절 통증에 대하여 FCST를 포함한 침치료를 통해 양호한 치료효과가 있는 것을 관찰하였다. 상기 환자는 FCST의 균형측정지 검사상 TMJ의 경미한 불균형 외에 방사선 소견상 구조적인 큰 이상이 없었음에도 이갈이에 따른 심한 근육긴장으로 통증이 발생한 경우였다. 이것을 통해 FCST가 턱관절의 구조적인 문제에만 국한되어 적용되는 것이 아니라 턱관절 주위 근육 긴장의 빠른 회복에도 상당한 효과가 있음을 볼 수 있었다. 또한 야간에 TBA를 착용한 상태로 잠을 자게 되면 그 자체로 이갈이에 대한 예방효과가 있어 현재 턱관절통증 등의 증상이 없는 이갈이 환자에게도 예방적인 목적으로 TBA의 처방이 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to report the treatment progress of a pregnant women who were treated with Korean medical hospitalization due to threatened abortion in first trimester and plecenta previa in second trimester during pregnancy. Methods: A 36-year-old pregnant woman was hospitalized twice at 9 and 19 weeks of pregnancy due to threatened abortion in first trimester and plecenta previa in second trimester. The patient was prescribed Korean Medicine(Gamidanggui-san, Gamibosaeng-tang) and treated with acupuncture, moxa. Global Assessment(G/A) of bleeding volume and frequency, Numerical Rating Scale(NRS) of abdominal pain, Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) of symptoms was assessed during hospitalization days. Results: Amounts of bleeding, abdominal pain decreased, and other symptoms improved during hospitalization days. The patient maintained her pregnancy until 31^st gestational week and gave a birth by Cesarean section. After giving birth, mother and infant are both in good health. Conclusions: This study suggests Korean medicine treatment has effectively reduced uterine bleeding and helped maintain pregnancy.

Gunshot wounds to the face are often dramatic at the time of presentation. Although care must be individualized, protocol approach helps the clinician rapidly evaluate patient and plan treatment. Early X-ray films help to determine the precise trajectory. Rapid neurologic assessment and early CT scanning based on physical examination ot trajectory will allow for identification of even occult injuries early. Lead poisoning arising from bullet lead in the synovial cavity of the hip, synovial cavity of the chest and pleural space have been reported. A combination of surgical debridement and chelation therapy with oral succimer produce a satisfactory outcome. We have managed a patient with Lt facial gunshot wound and Lt mandible angle fracture by open reduction of angle fracture and surgical removal of remnant bullet and medially advanced cheek skin flap. We have obtained good result and report this case with review of literatures.
