Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry is commonly used to analyze biological molecules such as proteins, peptides and lipids from cells or tissue. Recently MALDI Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) has been widely applied for the identification of different drugs and their metabolites in tissue. This special feature has made MALDI-MS a common choice for investigation of the molecular histology of pathological samples as well as an important alternative to other conventional imaging methods. The basic advantages of MALDI-IMS are its simple technique, rapid acquisition, increased sensitivity and most prominently, its capacity for direct tissue analysis without prior sample preparation. Moreover, with ms/ms analysis, it is possible to acquire structural information of known or unknown analytes directly from tissue sections. In recent years, MALDI-IMS has made enormous advances in the pathological field. Indeed, it is now possible to identify various changes in biological components due to disease states directly on tissue as well as to analyze the effect of treated drugs. In this review, we focus on the advantages of MALDI tissue imaging over traditional methods and highlight some motivating findings that are significant in pathological studies.
Based on the gross lesion, a survey of ulcer prevalence was carried out on pigs (3,161 heads) at a slaughterhouse in seoul from April to December in 1989. The pigs stomachs were observed anatomically and classified, according to the presence or absence of foreign bodies. Ulcer prevalence is usually classified according to size of pig farm, ages, and supplied month. The results in the studies were as follows, 1. Fundus followed the highest rate with 28.2%, esophagus with 24.5% each of cardiac and pyloric part with 7.8% and 4.1% in cases of gastric mucosa pathological studies examed total 3,161. In the acute ulcer prevalence, fundus follwed with 5.4%, esophagus with 2.6%, each of cardiac and pyloric part with 0.8% and 0.3%. When prevalent frequencies of fundus are compared with cardiac and pyloric part, they have meaning.(P <0.05). 2. In the survey pig of total 3,161, pathological changes of epithelium tissue foliowed 44.0%, erosion(11.5%), chronic ulcer(14.8%), acute ulcer(1.6%), scar formation (1.7%) and perforation (0.9%). 3. In general monthly prevalence rates of gastric lesion are higher in spring and fall than in summer. 4. In the size of pig farms, ulcer showed higher rate at professional farms than raising on the side. 5. When there are more fluid condition in stomach and they are old, the ulcer appeared for more. 6. Foreign bodies in stomach were sand, hairballs, and intestinal worms were detected (1%).
Stomach cancer is the fifth most common malignancy in the world. The incidence of stomach cancer is declining worldwide, however, gastric cancer still remains the third most common cause of cancer death. The tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging system has been frequently used as a method for cancer staging system and the most important reference in cancer treatment. In 2016, the classification of gastric cancer TNM staging was revised in the 8th American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) edition. There are several modifications in stomach cancer staging in this edition compared to the 7th edition. First, the anatomical boundary between esophagus and stomach has been revised, therefore the definition of stomach cancer and esophageal cancer has refined. Second, N3 is separated into N3a and N3b in pathological classification. Patients with N3a and N3b revealed distinct prognosis in stomach cancer, and these results brought changes in pathological staging. Several large retrospective studies were conducted to compare staging between the 7th and 8th AJCC editions including prognostic value, stage grouping homogeneity, discriminatory ability, and monotonicity of gradients globally. The main objective of this review is to evaluate the clinical and pathological implications of AJCC 8th staging classification in the stomach cancer.

Radiation-induced life shortening, carcinogenesis and other pathological changes were investigated in NIH(GP) mice after $^{60}Co-{\gamma}$ ray irradiation(100~700rads). The results were summarized as follows: 1. There were little difference in body weights, hematological examination and other clinical findings between normal and irradiated groups. 2. Mean survival time of the mice after irradiation were decreased dose-dependently. 3. Main gross findings of the mice irradiated were appeared as enlargement of spleen, thymus and lymph nodes, tumorous nodules of lung and cyst of ovary. Especially, enlargement of thymus was promineort in high dose group. 4. Microscopically, there were various findings including myeloid leukemia, thymic lymphoma, lung adenoma, adenosquamous cell carcinoma of pancreas, pneumonia and other pathological changes. Especially thymic lymphoma was highly frequent in the 700 rads group.
Computed tomography (CT) is a medical imaging method employing tomography. CT is a 3-Dimensional (3-D) radiographic imaging technique, which is not suited for assessment of inflammation, but can be considered a reference method for assessment of bone damage, due to its direct 3-D visualization of calcified tissue. In this study of pathological joint changes in a rat model of adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA) and quality analysis of bone destructions were performed by 3-Dimensional computed tomography images. These data demonstrate that the destructive progression of disease in a rat AIA model can be quantified using 3-D CT image analysis, which allows assessment of arthritic disease status and efficacy of experimental therapeutic agents.
Effective measure to prevent oxygen toxicity is greatly required as there increase chances to be exposed to high oxygen pressure, for example, space travel, deep sea diving and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. In the present study, in an attempt to evaluate glutathione and chlorpromazine as protective agents against oxygen toxicity, effects of the agents were tested on various toxicities (death rate, convulsion rate, time to convulsion, increase in weight of lung and brain and pathological changes in the organs) observed in rats exposed to 5 Absolute Atmosphere (ATA) of 100% oxygen for 120 minute. Glutathione reduced mortality rate and convulsion rate and also markedly suppressed the increase in lung and brain weight. The pathological changes observed in these organs were ameliorated by administration of glutathione. Chlorpromazine also reduced mortality rate but its effects appeared to be limited mainly to pulmonary toxicities. Thus glutathione seems to be more effective than chlorpromazine as a protective agent. The results obtained may support that oxygen toxicity is mediated by oxygen free radicals.
These studies were attempted to investigate the preventive effect of Ganoderma lucidum extract administered concurrently with glutathione on the liver damage induced by carbon tetrachloride ($CCl_4$) in rats. S-GOT and S-GPT activities of all the pre-treatment groups were significantly decreased, as compared with those of the control intoxicated by $CCl_4$. The concurrent administrations of Ganoderma lucidum extract with glutathione (100+100mg/kg, 200+100mg/kg, and 400+100mg/kg, respectively) were more effective than the individual administrations. i.e., Ganaderma lucidtcm extract (100, 200 and 400mg/kg, respectively) and glutathione (100, 200 and 400mg/kg, respectively). On the determination of lipid-peroxidation in liver, the concurrent administrations of Ganoderma lucidum extract with glutathione (100+100mg/kg, and 200+100mg/kg, respectively) significantly reduced the liver TBA values. Although hepatic cellular necrosis and fatty acid deposit were remarkably increased by $CCl_4$ intoxication, the concurrent administration of Ganoderma lucidum extract with glutathione (200+100mg/kg) reduced the pathological changes of parenchymal cell necrosis and fatty changes around centrilobalar area of the control. These findings indicate that the concurrent administrations of Ganoderma lucidum extract with glutathione showed better improvements than the individual administrations of them in all pathological aspects, in particular, against hepatitis and hepatic necrosis due to the cellular necrosis and fatty infiltration.
Researches to determine the infectious status on the pancreatic fluke, Eurytrema pancreaticum(Janson 1889) Looss, 1907, were made into several slaughter hauses at four different districts through seven years from 1963 to 1969. The infection rate showed 2962 positive of 5974 heads (49.6%) of cattle at the Seoul first slaughter hause in Seoul, 881 positive of 1021 heads (86.3%) in Cheju, and six(6) positive of 56 heads (11.1%) at Suwon, 58 positive of 306 heads(19.0%)at Joenju. The infection rate 53.1%, (2907 positive heads of total 7357 heads exammed) is the representative infection rate at the cattle eurytremiasis in Korea. It showed little variation through a year and was increased as compared with those of the past period, from 1915 to 1945. Fecal examinations in order to find out the local distribution of the pancreatic fluke were conducted on cattle, sheep, and goats raised in four districts, showing two(2) of 269 heads (0.7%) in Kyonggi-do, 41 of 212 heads (19.3%) in Cheju-do, and negative in both Chungnam-do and Joenbuk-do. When an artificial infection wss performed on rabbits and goats with metacercaria of the pancreatic fluke, Parenchyma of their pancreas were degenerated and the ducts were dilated. When cattle and sheep were infected naturally, the pancreatic ducts were also dilated, the wall was thickened, and adenomatous and epithelial hyperplasia was appeared. The conclusion, putting the foregoing pathological changes, has been arrived at chronic hyperplastic pancreatitis in the eurytremiasis of cattle, sheep, goats and rabbits.

Rock wool, a kind of asbestos substitutes, was analyzed for its physicochemical properties. After fivers of rock wool were instilled into rat lungs, These pathological changes were evaluated. In addition, the fibers in the lungs were counted and characterized after the lungs were treated for electron microscopical analysis. The lungs of rats showed pathological lesions such as granulomatous changes, but these lesions disappeared at 28 days groups after instilled rats. The rock wool fibers in the lungs decreased more 50 % after 28 days instilled into rat lungs. And rock wool showed early change in fiber compositions after 3 days compare with chrysotile showed after 7 days instilled into rat lungs. This study showed that the durability of rock wool in the lungs is more milder than chrysotile.

Anatomy: Advanced knowledges of cellular and molecular biology led to the development of therapies of rheumatoid arthritis(RA). Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, recurrent, systemic inflammatory disease and results in major deformity or dysfunction of joints. Etiology: Rheumatoid arthritis is now concevied as autoimmune disease. There have been many trials to define the immunological changes in rheumatoid arthritis. But now pathogenesis and significance of immunoglobulin complement and rheumatoid factor are not full accepted. Syndrome: Joints are characteristically involved with early inflammatory changes in the synovial membrane, peripheral portions of the articular cartilage, and lation tissue(pannus) forms, covers, and erodes the articular cartilage, bone and ligaments within the jiont capsule. Inflammatory changes also occur in tendon sheaths(tenosynovitis), and if subjected to a lot of friction, the tendons may fray or rupture. Extra-articular pathological changes sometimes occur, these include rheumatoid nodules, atrophy and fibrosis of muscles, and mild cardiac changes. Treatment: Tumor necrosis factor(TNF) inhibitor for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis(RA) induces not only significant improvement of symptoms and signs of RA but also substantial inhibition of progressive joint damage.
