This study suggests a new approach for identifying core robot tech-nologies based on technological cross-impact. Specifically, the approach applies data mining techniques and multi-criteria decision-making methods to the co-classification information of registered patents on the robots. First, a cross-impact matrix is constructed with the confidence values by applying association rule mining (ARM) to the co-classification information of patents. Analytic network process (ANP) is applied to the co-classification frequency matrix for deriving weights of each robot technology. Then, a technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is employed to the derived cross-impact matrix and weights for identifying core robot technologies from the overall cross-impact perspective. It is expected that the proposed approach could help robot technology managers to formulate strategy and policy for technology planning of robot area.

In general statistical analysis, we need to make a normal assumption. If this assumption is not satisfied, we cannot expect a good result of statistical data analysis. Most of statistical methods processing the outlier and noise also need to the assumption. But the assumption is not satisfied in big data because of its large volume and heterogeneity. So we propose a methodology based on box-plot and data smoothing for controling outlier and noise in big data analysis. The proposed methodology is not dependent upon the normal assumption. In addition, we select patent documents as target domain of big data because patent big data analysis is a important issue in management of technology. We analyze patent documents using big data learning methods for technology analysis. The collected patent data from patent databases on the world are preprocessed and analyzed by text mining and statistics. But the most researches about patent big data analysis did not consider the outlier and noise problem. This problem decreases the accuracy of prediction and increases the variance of parameter estimation. In this paper, we check the existence of the outlier and noise in patent big data. To know whether the outlier is or not in the patent big data, we use box-plot and smoothing visualization. We use the patent documents related to three dimensional printing technology to illustrate how the proposed methodology can be used for finding the existence of noise in the searched patent big data.

Big data issue has been considered in diverse fields. Also, big data learning has been required in all areas such as engineering and social science. Statistics and machine learning algorithms are representative tools for big data learning. In this paper, we study learning tools for big data and propose an efficient methodology for big data learning via legacy data to practical application. We apply our big data learning to patent analysis, because patent is one of big data. Also, we use patent analysis result for technology forecasting. To illustrate how the proposed methodology could be applied in real domain, we will retrieve patents related to big data from patent databases in the world. Using searched patent data, we perform a case study by text mining preprocessing and multiple linear regression of statistics.

As the importance of technology forecasting while countries and companies manage the R&D project is growing bigger, the methodology of technology forecasting has been diversified. One of the forecasting method is patent analysis. This research proposes quick forecasting process of emerging technology based on keyword approach using text mining. The forecasting process is following: First, the term-document matrix is extracted from patent documents by using text mining. Second, emerging technology keyword are extracted by analyzing the importance of word from utilizing mean values and standard deviation values of the term and the emerging trend of word discovered from time series information of the term. Next, association between terms is measured by using cosine similarity. finally, the keyword of emerging technology is selected in consequence of the synthesized result and we forecast the emerging technology according to the results. The technology forecasting process described in this paper can be applied to developing computerized technology forecasting system integrated with various results of other patent analysis for decision maker of company and country.
Offshore wind power has been extremely popular in recent years, and in the energy technology field, relevant research has been increasingly conducted. However, research regarding patent portfolios is still insufficient. The purpose of this research is to study the status of mainstream offshore wind power technology and patent portfolios and to investigate major assignees and countries to obtain a thorough understanding of the developmental trends of offshore wind power technology. The findings may be used by the government and industry for designing additional strategic development proposals. Data mining methods, such as multiple correspondence analyses and k-means clustering, were implemented to explore the competing technological and strategic-group relationships within the offshore wind power industry. The results indicate that the technological positions and patent portfolios of the countries and manufacturers are different. Additional technological development strategy recommendations were proposed for the offshore wind power industry.

Recently, imitation and infringement rights of an intellectual property are being recognized as impediments to nation's industrial growth. To prevent the huge loss which comes from theses impediments, many researchers are studying protection and efficient management of an intellectual property in various ways. Especially, the prediction of patent registration is very important part to protect and assert intellectual property rights. In this study, we propose the patent document analysis method by using text mining to predict whether the patent is registered or rejected. In the first instance, the proposed method builds the database by using the word frequencies of the rejected patent documents. And comparing the builded database with another patent documents draws the similarity value between each patent document and the database. In this study, we used k-means which is partitioning clustering algorithm to select criteria value of patent rejection. In result, we found conclusion that some patent which similar to rejected patent have strong possibility of rejection. We used U.S.A patent documents about bluetooth technology, solar battery technology and display technology for experiment data.

Big data has been used in diverse areas. For example, in computer science and sociology, there is a difference in their issues to approach big data, but they have same usage to analyze big data and imply the analysis result. So the meaningful analysis and implication of big data are needed in most areas. Statistics and machine learning provide various methods for big data analysis. In this paper, we study a process for big data analysis, and propose an efficient methodology of entire process from collecting big data to implying the result of big data analysis. In addition, patent documents have the characteristics of big data, we propose an approach to apply big data analysis to patent data, and imply the result of patent big data to build R&D strategy. To illustrate how to use our proposed methodology for real problem, we perform a case study using applied and registered patent documents retrieved from the patent databases in the world.
Background: The purpose of this study was to utilize text network analysis and topic modeling to identify interconnected relationships among keywords present in patent information related to oral health, and subsequently extract latent topics and visualize them. By examining key keywords and specific subjects, this study sought to comprehend the technological trends in oral health-related innovations. Furthermore, it aims to serve as foundational material, suggesting directions for technological advancement in dentistry and dental hygiene. Methods: The data utilized in this study consisted of information registered over a 20-year period until July 31st, 2023, obtained from the patent information retrieval service, KIPRIS. A total of 6,865 patent titles related to keywords, such as "dentistry," "teeth," and "oral health," were collected through the searches. The research tools included a custom-designed program coded specifically for the research objectives based on Python 3.10. This program was used for keyword frequency analysis, semantic network analysis, and implementation of Latent Dirichlet Allocation for topic modeling. Results: Upon analyzing the centrality of connections among the top 50 frequently occurring words, "method," "tooth," and "manufacturing" displayed the highest centrality, while "active ingredient" had the lowest. Regarding topic modeling outcomes, the "implant" topic constituted the largest share at 22.0%, while topics concerning "devices and materials for oral health" and "toothbrushes and oral care" exhibited the lowest proportions at 5.5% each. Conclusion: Technologies concerning methods and implants are continually being researched in patents related to oral health, while there is comparatively less technological development in devices and materials for oral health. This study is expected to be a valuable resource for uncovering potential themes from a large volume of patent titles and suggesting research directions.
With the rise of internet of things (IoT), there have been several studies to analyze the technological trend and technological convergence. However, previous work have been relied on the qualitative work that investigate the IoT trend and implication for future business. In response, this study considers the patent information as the proxy measure of technology, and conducts a quantitative and analytic approach for analyzing technological convergence using patent co-classification analysis and text mining. First, this study investigate the characteristics of IoT business, and characterize IoT business into four dimensions: device, network, platform, and services. After this process, total 923 patent classes are classified into four types of IoT technology group. Since most of patent classes are classified into device technology, we developed a co-classification network for both device technology and all technologies. Patent keywords are also extracted and these keywords are also classified into four types: device, network, platform, and services. As a result, technologies for several IoT devices such as sensors, healthcare, and energy management are derived as a main convergence group for the device network. For the total IoT network, base network technology plays a key role to characterize technological convergence in the IoT network, mediating the technological convergence in each application area such as smart healthcare, smart home, and smart grid. This work is expected to effectively be utilized in the technology planning of IoT businesses.

This study aims at analyzing the convergence of Internet-of-Things and wearables technologies using cooperative patent classification(CPC). CPC, introduced to an increasing number of technological fields of Korean patents, is expected to be widely used in Patent Informatics because the classification codes in CPC are more specific than those of IPC, which reflect the characteristics of technologies in detail with accuracy. CPC has seldom been used up to date and most of the previous researches on technological convergence used IPC. As a pre-analysis step for analyzing the trend of technological convergence of IoT and wearables, CPC and IPC codes assigned to each patent were compared. By applying association rule mining to the analysis of CPC codes, we identified the technological fields where convergence frequently takes place and examined the trend of technological convergence over time.
