Transition Structure to Changes in Efficiency and Pattern of Technological Progress by Industries through Development of Patent Mapping Model (산업별 기술발전의 효율 및 형태변동에 대한 추이구조)

  • The main objective of this study is to analyze the structure of efficiency of R&D input variables and the attributes of patent information as output of R&D activities in the major manufacturing industries (electric & electronics, machinery, chemical, textile) from the mid-1970s to the late-1990s by the development of "mapping technique". To attain this objective we first have examined the attribute of time-lag which depends on the absolute, and the cumulative values between input and output. And on the basis of this result, we have made an analysis on the impact to extract the main variables affecting patent by industries. Moreover, according to time trend of the impact variables, we have analyzed the structure of R&D efficiency, and of technological progress which will be changed with time by patent information. It has been aimed at constructing technological progress patterns in the Korea industry.

  • Feed drive systems are used to position the machine tool components carrying the cutting tool and workpiece to the desired location. Hence, their positioning accuracy and speed determine the quality and productivity of machine tools. In this paper, technical trend of machine tools feed drive systems are analyzed by patent mapping. And this paper suggested future development direction of feed drive systems. The analysis is carried out by using problem solution map (PSM) for the applied patent during January 2000 and December 2009 in Korea, Japan, EU and U.S.A.

  • Automatic tool changer(ATC) is typically provided to a machine tool to improve the efficiency of the machine tool significantly by saving time in moving, switching, installing and storing tools as well as adjusting a calibrating the machine tool. In this study, technical trend of machine tools automatic tool changer are analyzed by patent mapping. And future development direction of automatic tool changer has suggested. The analysis is carried out by using problem solution map for the applied patent during 2000 and 2010 in USA, Japan, Europe and Korea.

  • The patent analysis of GPS technologies is performed by using a patent mapping method. The number of U.S.,Japanese and Korean patent applications are 1,819, 1,715 and 1,277 cases respectively. U.S and Japanese patents are mainly composed of hardware technologies. But, Korean patents are mainly composed of service technologies.

  • Today, MMS (Mobile Mapping System) uses the strengths of individual sensor technologies on a variety of platforms to increase the efficiency of geospatial data collection. In this paper, we analyzed the market size and technology trend of mobile mapping market in Korea and abroad, and analyzed frequency, trend, and characteristics of MMS related patents. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, it is expected that the domestic and overseas mobile mapping market will continue to grow in the future, and MMS-related technologies and applications are rapidly developing. Active research and development investment is required to preoccupy future market through technology development and patent competition. Second, the frequency of filing domestic patents is highly correlated with the results of national R&D, and industrial patent applications are highly related to national projects. It is analyzed as the result of introduction of preemptive technologies and research and development of companies for preemption in related industry rather than market development. Lastly, in Korean geospatial information industry survey, It is necessary to maintain the data so that it can be compared with the data of foreign institutions. In particular, statistical data that can grasp the market size in terms of geospatial information utilization and technical aspects are desperately needed.

A Study on the Analysis of Patent Information in the Apparel Design -Focused on International Patent Classification- (의류디자인 분야의 특허정보 분석 -국제특허분류를 중심으로-)

  • This study analyses patent information of apparel design using computer technology and researches the trend of patent application focused on International Patent Classification. In terms of trend by filling data, Patent application started first in 1974 and increased sharply in 1993 with 14 cases and increased to 25 cases in 2000. In case of Korea, they began somewhat late in 1996, but reached a similar level with the leading country in 2000. In terms of trend by applicant, Gerber Garment Technology, Inc. filed 7 cases TORAY IND INC, filed 6 cases Levi Strauss & Co. filed 4 cases, NEC HOME ELECTRONICS LTD filed 3 cases, TOYOBO CO LTD filed 3 cases. Japanese companies occupied 52% and United States's companies occupied 48%. In terms of trend by country, foreigner occupied 47% of the patents filed by United State. Japanese take up 10% of total patent of United States. Korean occupied 84% of total patent of Korea and foreigner, american occupied 16% of the patents filed by Korea. In regared to International Patent Classification, in the section level G filed 92 cases(53%). In class level, G06 marked the first place in United States, Japan, and Korea. In subclass level, G06F marksed the first place with 74 cases. G06T and A61B were regarded as the new technologies. The new technologies are representing the dimensions of garment or computer-rendered model, providing the virtual reality through the texture mapping, digital dressing room or virtual dressing, and performing or retriving display on a screen for the result of changing pattern ao dress design, The technologies of core patent are designing or producing custom manufactured item, providing or prealtering the data for pattern making and visually displaying, interactively generating or previewing of various articles.

A Study of Analysis Methods on R&D Productivity Using Patent and Paper Analysis (특허 및 논문분석을 이용한 연구생산성 분석 기법에 관한 연구)

  • Global R&D environment is entering on more complicated aspect gradually and tends to increase sharply in a quantitative manner. Technology competition is getting higher. This study intends to raise recognition of a necessity of productivity in a rapidly-changing R&D field and to suggest alternatives for improving its research productivity. For it, the research productivity was analyzed by utilizing two processes of patent analysis and paper analysis. According to the analysis result, it can be confirmed that Korea has the low research productivity compared to advanced countries such as USA and Japan. Government-supported research institute showed the relatively low research productivity, compared to foreign research institutes. It is confirmed that the company research institute has better research productivity than the government-supported research institute. Analyzing the present situation of research productivity through such the patent and paper analysis, seems to contribute to suggest how the research must be done in order to identify the factor of hampering the competitiveness acquisition and to improve the future R&D productivity.
