Efficiency in the Password-based Authenticated Key Exchange (패스워드 기반 인증 키 공유 프로토콜에서의 효율성)

  • Proposals for a password-based authenticated key exchange protocol that have been published so far almost concentrated on the provable security. But in a real environment such as mobile one, efficiency is a critical issue as security. In this paper we discuss the efficiency of PAK which is secure in the random oracle model [l]. Among 4 hash functions in PAK the instantiation for $H_1$, which outputs a verifier of the password, has most important effect on the computational efficiency. We analyze two different methods for $H_1$ suggested in [1] and we show that $H_{lq}$ has merits in transforming to EC or XTR variants as well as in the efficiency. As an efficient variant. we propose PAK2-EC and PAK2-XTR which do not require any additional step converting a hash output into a point of elliptic curve or XTR subgroup when compared to the previous work on the PAK[2]. Finally we compare PAK2 with the password-based authenticated key exchange protocols such as SPEKE, SRP, and AMP.

  • 본 논문에서는 PAK(Password-Authenticated Key Exchange)와 PAK-R 프로토콜 기반으로 세가지 형태의 MTI(Matsumoto, Takashima, Imai) 키 일치 프로토콜을 적용하여, 안전한 보안성 요구 조건을 만족하면서 다양한 시스템에 적용할 수 있는, 패스워드-인증 키 분배 프로토콜을 소개하고자 한다. PAK 패스워드-인증 키 프로토콜은 통신 주체의 짧은 길이의 패스워드를 이용하여 통신 주체의 식별 및 상호 인증 후, 크기가 긴 세션키를 분배하기 위한 프로토콜이다. 또한 PAK는 이미 안전한 보안성이 증명되었고,[8,9,10]이를 이용한 많은 패스워드 기반의 인증 키 분배 프로토콜이 소개되었다. 본 논문은 이미 안정성 검증이 된 키 분배 프로토콜을 이용하여 새로운 PAK 프로토콜을 제안하며, credential의 이용성을 보장하기 위한 다양한 응용에 적용될 수 있다.

Cryptanalysis of an Efficient RSA-Based Password-Authenticate Key Exchange Protocol against Dictionary Attack (RSA-EPAKE의 사전공격에 대한 안전성 분석)

  • Recently, an efficient password-authenticated key exchange protocol based on RSA has been proposed by Park et al. with formal security proof. In this letter, we analyze their protocol, and show that it is not secure against an active adversary who performs a dictionary attack. Moreover, we analyze the performance of the proposed attack and show that the attack is a threatening attack against the protocol.

  • This paper presents a password based authentication and key exchange protocol which can be used for both authenticating users and exchanging session keys for a subsequent secure communication over an untrusted network. Our idea is to increase a randomness of the password verification data, i.e., we split the password, and then amplify the split passwords in the high entropy-structured password verification data. And in order to prevent the verifier-compromised attack, we construct our system such that the password verification data is encrypted with the verifier's key and the private key of verifier used to encrypt it is stored in a secure place like a smart cards. Also we propose the distributed password authentication scheme utilizing many authentication servers in order to prevent the server-compromised attack occurred when only one server is used. Furthermore, the security analysis on the proposed protocol has been presented as a conclusion.

  • In this paper, we present two verifier-based multi-party PAKE (password-authenticated key exchange) protocols. The shared key can be used for secure content transmission. The suggested protocols are secure against server compromise attacks. Our first protocol is designed to provide forward secrecy and security against known-key attacks. The second protocol is designed to additionally provide key secrecy against the server which means that even the server can not know the session keys of the users of a group. The suggested protocols have a constant number of rounds are provably secure in the standard model. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed protocols are the first secure multi-party PAKE protocols against server compromise attacks in the literature.

  • Recently, Chang et at.$^[9]$ proposed a new password-based key agreement protocol and a password change protocol to improve the efficiency in the password-based authenticated key agreement protocol proposed by Yeh et at.$^[8]$. However, Wang et al.$^[10]$ showed that their protected password change protocol is not secure under the denial of service attack and the dictionary attack This paper proposes an improved password change protocol to solve this problems in the Chang et al's protocol. In the proposed protocol, the format of communication messages is modified not to have any clue for the guessing of the password and verifying of the guessed password. The proposed protocol supports the advantages in the previous password-based protocols and solves the problems in them effectively.

  • Joux's tripartite key agreement protocol is one of the most prominent developments in the area of key agreement. Although certificate-based and ID-based authentication schemes have been proposed to provide authentication for Joux's protocol, no provably secure password-based one round tripartite key agreement protocol has been proposed yet. We propose a secure one round password-based tripartite key agreement protocol that builds on Joux's protocol and adapts PAK-EC scheme for password-based authentication, and present a proof of its security.

  • Data deduplication can be utilized to reduce storage space in cloud storage services by storing only a single copy of data rather than all duplicated copies. Users who are concerned the confidentiality of their outsourced data can use secure encryption algorithms, but it makes data deduplication ineffective. In order to reconcile data deduplication with encryption, Liu et al. proposed a new server-side cross-user deduplication scheme by exploiting password authenticated key exchange (PAKE) protocol in 2015. In this paper, we demonstrate that this scheme has side channel which causes insecurity against the confirmation-of-file (CoF), or duplicate identification attack.

Simple and Efficient Authenticated Key Agreement Protocol (간단하고 효율적인 상호 인증 키 동의 프로토콜)

  • In this raper, we propose two simple and efficient key agreement protocols, called SEKA-H and SEKA-E, which use a pre-shared password between two parties for mutual authentication and agreeing a common session key. The SEKA-H protocol uses a hash function to verify an agreed session key. The SEKA-E Protocol, a variant of SEKA-H, uses an exponentiation operation in the verification phase. They are secure against the man-in-the-middle attack the password guessing attack and the Denning-Sacco attack and provide the perfect forward secrecy. The SEKA-H protocol is very simple in structure and provides good efficiency compared with other well-known protocols. The SEKA-E protocol is also comparable with the previous protocols.

  • As concern about IoT is increasing recently, various IoT services are being launched. Smart home is closely related to our daily life by combining IoT with user's residential space. Therefore, if an unauthorized user accesses a device inside a Smart home, it can cause more serious damage to user as it is related with daily lives. For instance executing the command allowing unauthenticated access for the internal locking device can be a real harm to user's property like a home invasion. To prevent this problem, this paper introduces 3PAKE Techniques, which provides authenticated Key exchange through Home gateway using Password-based Authenticated Key Exchange(PAKE).
