산업폐기물 소각시설에서 폐기물 유형에 따른 입자상물질의 배출특성 (Emission Characterization of Particulate Matters According to the Types of Wastes from Industrial Waste Incinerator)

  • The emissions characteristics of particulate matters(PM) according to the types of wastes from industrial waste incinerator of 800 kg/hr treatment capacity were investigated. For this study, the incinerate waste are as follows; waste resin, waste wood, waste urethane, waste gunny, and waste paper. The particulate samples were collected to be emitted in stack and air pollution control(both cyclone and bag filter). In stack, the concentrations of PM were in the range of 2.61 to $26.51 mg/Sm^3$ and the major chemical species were C, Si, Cl, K, Na, Ca in all the wastes. In cyclone fly ash, the mean content of heavy metal were in the order of Fe > Zn > Pb > Cu > Mn > Cr > Ni > Cd > As > Hg and the heavy metal content of waste resin were Zn 34,197.5 mg/kg, Fe 27,587.6 mg/kg, Pb 6,055.8 mg/kg, respectively. In bag filter fly ash, the mean content of heavy metal were in the order of Zn > Pb > Fe > Cu > Mn > Cd > Cr > Ni > As > Hg and the heavy metal content of waste wood were Pb 36,405.2 mg/kg, Fe 15,762.9 mg/kg, Cu 9,989.5 mg/kg, Cd 2,230.1 mg/kg, respectively. Comparing the heavy metal content of both cyclone and bag filter, in cyclone, the Cr, Fe, Ni content were higher than in bag filter and the Cd, Cu, Hg content were lower than in bag filter.

Sources of Carbonaceous Materials in the Airborne Particulate Matter of Dhaka

  • To explore the sources of carbonaceous material in the airborne particulate matter (PM), comprehensive PM sampling was performed (3 to 14 January 2010) at a traffic hot spot site (HS), Farm Gate, Dhaka using several samplers: AirMetrics MiniVol (for $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$) and MOUDI (for size fractionated submicron PM). Long-term PM data (April 2000 to March 2006 and April 2000 to March 2010 in two size fractions ($PM_{2.2}$ and $PM_{2.2-10}$) obtained from two air quality-monitoring stations, one at Farm Gate (HS) and another at a semi-residential (SR) area (Atomic Energy Centre, Dhaka Campus, (AECD)), respectively were also analyzed. The long-term PM trend shows that fine particulate matter concentrations have decreased over time as a result of government policy interventions even with increasing vehicles on the road. The ratio of $PM_{2.5}/PM_{10}$ showed that the average $PM_{2.5}$ mass was about 78% of the $PM_{10}$ mass. It was also found that about 63% of $PM_{2.5}$ mass is $PM_1$. The total contribution of BC to $PM_{2.5}$ is about 16% and showed a decreasing trend over the years. It was observed that $PM_1$ fractions contained the major amount of carbonaceous materials, which mainly originated from high temperature combustion process in the $PM_{2.5}$. From the IMPROVE TOR protocol carbon fraction analysis, it was observed that emissions from gasoline vehicles contributed to $PM_1$ given the high abundance of EC1 and OC2 and the contribution of diesel to $PM_1$ is minimal as indicated by the low abundance of OC1 and EC2. Source apportionment results also show that vehicular exhaust is the largest contributors to PM in Dhaka. There is also transported $PM_{2.2}$from regional sources. With the increasing economic activities and recent GDP growth, the number of vehicles and brick kilns has significantly increased in and around Dhaka. Further action will be required to further reduce PM-related air pollution in Dhaka.

  • 경유자동차는 연료 특성상 매연을 포함한 입자상물질을 다량 배출하고 있으며, 이러한 디젤입자상물질은 인체에 유해한 발암성 및 돌연변이원성 물질들을 함유하고 있기 때문에 호흡 등을 통한 인체 유입시 건강에 매우 유해하다. 그러므로 디젤입자상물질을 저감시키기 위한 여러 가지 기술들 중 발생된 배출가스가 배기관을 통해 대기중으로 배출되기 전에 엔진 연소실과 배기관 사이에 후처리장치와 같은 기술들을 이용하여 이를 저감시키고 있다. 본 연구에서는 후처리장치들 중 세라믹필터에 백금과 같은 산화성이 우수한 촉매를 코팅하여 만든 촉매식 매연여과장치(DPF ; diesel particulate filter, SK제공)를 사용하였을 때 입자저감성능 및 입자크기별 분포특성을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 통해 도시대기오염 저감대책을 기초자료 및 환경학적, 보건학적 연구에 적극 활용하고자 한다.   • Recently, increasing usage of diesel vehicle, many countries try to reduce the pollutant materials by emission regulation standard. Particularly, in our country, the supplement ratio of diesel vehicle is high, and air pollution by particulate matter(PM) is very serious. So, in theoretical study wer analyzed the formation principle of gaseous emission and PM, the characteristics of CVS-75 mode. In experimental study, we tested exhaust gas reduction of emission and PM, the characteristics of CVS-75 mode. In experimental study, we tested exhaust gas reduction of disel oxidation catalyst(DOC) by CVS-75 mode in light duty diesel vehicle. In case of an automobiletest with the 2,956cc diesel engine which DOC was equipped, CVS-75 mode which is similar to driving conditions on the road was chosen as the restrictive mode of light duty diesel automobile in our country. According to the Pt, the reduction rate of exhaust emission was estimated with using 0.1% high sulfur fuel and 0.05% low sulfur fuel.

밀폐된 공간에서 환기에 의한 ETS 성분 제거

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the ventilation to remove gases, vapor and particles of environmental tobacco smoke(ETS) in a closed room. The ventilation rate choosed were 0.445 ㎥/min, 0.528 ㎥/min, and 0.625 ㎥/min. ETS components measured were total suspended particle(TSP), ultraviolet particulate matter(UVPM), fluorescent particulate matter(FPM), solanesol, carbon dioxide($CO_2$), carbon monoxide(CO), nicotine, and 3-ethenylpyri-dine(3-EP). The concentration of ETS components measured rapidly decreased as increasing ventilation rate, but the removal efficiency by ventilation was different from each ETS compounds. The $CO_2$, and CO, gaseous components of ETS, were dominant components to be removed from the room by ventilation. The ventilation with 0.528 ㎥/min for 1 hr was enough to remove over 99% of those gaseous components. Nicotine and 3-EP needed the ventilation for 2 hrs to reduce over 95 % of those components. As the same ventilation rate, 99 % of TSP and solanesol concentration were removed from the room within 2 hrs, UVPM and FPM concentration decreased 90 %.

  • 도시지역의 주 오염물질 중 하나인 입자상 물질(Particulate Matter:PM)은 공기역학적 직경 2.5$\mu\textrm{m}$을 기준으로 이산형 분포를 하여 2.5$\mu\textrm{m}$이하를 미세입자, 2.5$\mu\textrm{m}$이상을 조대입자로 나뉜다. 이 미세입자는 주로 자동차 배출, 산업연소에서 배출되는 가스상 물질의 2차 반응으로 발생한다(Pope et al., 1995). 미세입자는 상당량이 2차 반응에서 생성되는 물질이며, 크기가 작은 대신 상대적으로 표면적이 크기 때문에 각종 중금속과 유해 대기오염물질과의 흡착이 용이하여 호흡기 계통의 질병을 일으킬 수 있는 확률이 조대입자에 비해 높다고 알려져 있어 인체에 미치는 영향이 클 것으로 시사되고 있다(Dockery et al., 1998).   • The subway play an important part in serious traffic problems. However, because subway system is a closed environment, many serious air pollution problems occurred in subway stations and injured passenger's health. Therefor, it is a necessary to identify sources and to estimate pollutant sources in order to protect passenger's health and to keep clean subway environment. The purpose of this study was to analyze a air quality in the subway stations and to apply a new receptor methodology for quantitatively estimate of PM10 sources. In this study, the size distributions of particulate matters has been measured by using Aerosizer LD (U.S.A., API, Inc.). It's real time measurement capability of time-of-flight technique offers a significant advantage of user convenience and air pollution management. Also, the mass concentrations of PM 10 has been measured by using mini-vol portable sampler (U.S.A., Airmetrics Co.). The sampling performed in Seoul subway stations during the period of February 2000 and April 2000. The number distribution data used in this study consisted of 26 raw data sets in the Jongno-sam-ga station. Correlation Analysis can be used in subway stations for source separation and identification. Then, number contribution from each source is determined by the particle number balance (PNB). The mass concentration data used in this study consisted of 31 raw data in the 8 different stations. The mass contributions of PM10 sources in the concourse by using PMF/CMB model.

Increase of diesel car raises health risk in spite of recent development in engine technology

  • Diesel exhaust particles (DEP) contain elemental carbon, organic compounds including Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), metals, and other trace compounds. Diesel exhaust is complex mixture of thousands of chemicals. Over forty air contaminants are recognized as toxicants, such as carcinogens. Most diesel exhaust particles have aerodynamic diameters falling within a range of 0.1 to $0.25{\mu}m$. DEP was classified as a definite human carcinogen (group 1) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer at 2012 based on recently sufficient epidemiological evidence for lung cancer. Significant decreases in DEP and other diesel exhaust constituents will not be evident immediately, and outworn diesel car having longer mileage still threatens health of people in spite of recent remarkable development in diesel engine technology. Policy change in South Korea, such as introduction of diesel taxi, may raise health risk of air pollution in metropolitan area with these limitations of diesel engine. To protect people against DEP in South Korea, progressive strategies are needed, including disallowance of diesel taxi, more strict regulation of diesel engine emission, obligatory diesel particulate filter attachment in outworn diesel car, and close monitoring about health effects of DEP.

서울시 도로변지역과 인근 주거 밀집지역의 실시간 대기 중 PM2.5농도 비교 (Comparison of Ambient Real-Time PM2.5 Concentrations at Major Roadside with on those at Adjacent Residential Sites in Seoul Metropolitan City)

  • In 2013, International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that outdoor air pollution is carcinogenic to humans, with the particulate matter component of air pollution most closely associated with sufficient evidence of increased cancer incidence by exposure to particulate matter component of air pollution. Motor vehicles are one of a major emission sources of fine particle ($PM_{2.5}$) in urban areas. A large number of epidemiological studies have reported a positive association of morbidity or mortality with distance from the roadside. We conducted this study to assess the association of $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations measured at roadside hotspots with those at adjacent residential sites using real-time $PM_{2.5}$ monitors. We conducted real-time $PM_{2.5}$ measurements for rush hour periods (08:00~10:00 and 18:00~20:00) at 9 roadside air monitoring Hotspot sites in metropolitan Seoul over 3 weeks from October 1 to 21, 2013. Simultaneous measurements were conducted in residential sites within a 100 m radius from each roadside air monitoring site. A SidePak AM510 was used for the real-time $PM_{2.5}$ measurements. Medians of roadside $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations ranged from $9.8{\mu}g/m^3$ to $38.3{\mu}g/m^3$, while corresponding median values at adjacent residential sites ranged from $4.4{\mu}g/m^3$ to $37.3{\mu}g/m^3$. $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations of residential sites were 0.97 times of hotspot roadside sites. Distributions of $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations in roadside and residential areas were also very similar. Real-time $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations at residential sites, (100 m adjacent), showed similar levels to those at roadside sites. Increasing the distance between roadside and residential sites, if needed, should be considered to protect urban resident populations from $PM_{2.5}$ emitted by traffic related sources.

대기중 총분진과 사망자수에 관한 분석 (An analysis of air apollution and daily mortality)

  • 대기오염 자료와 사망자수 자료를 이용하여 대기중 총분진이 사망자수에 미치는 영향을 1996~1997년 서울 자료를 이용하여 분석하였다. 대기오염 자료에서 보이는 강한 계절성과 장기간의 경향 그리고 기온과 습도의 비선형관계를 고려하여 일반화 부가모형(generalized additive model)을 사용하였고, 그 결과 대기중 총분진 100$\mu$g/㎥ 증가시 초과사망자는 3%(95% 신뢰구간 : 0.8-5.2)로 추정되었다. 사례-교차연구(case-crossover study)의 결과를 보면 한 방향(후향적, 전향적)으로의 대조기간 설정 방법은 편향된 추정치를 주었고 양방향 방법은 회귀계수의 추정치는 일반화 부가모형과 거의 같은 결과를 주었지만 표준오차는 상대적으로 큰 값을 주었다. 이상에서 볼 때 대기오염 자료의 분석과 같이 계절성이 큰 자료에서는 사례-교차 연구를 적용할 때 주의가 요구됨을 알 수 있었다.
