Ferrograms prepared from off samples collected during testing in the transition region were originally diluted at 20:1. To obtain some information about the effect of dilution on the analysis procedures, a series of measurements were made on ferrograms prepared to different dilutions in the range 6 to 30:1 from oil samples collected after testing in the four ball machine at the 51 kg and 55 kg load, respectively, Fig. 1. The variations in area covered, perimeter, intercept and particle count were then plotted as a function of dilution level and appropriate mathematical expressions established such that the results obtained at any dilution level specified within the range can then be corrected back to an equivalent undiluted value. The effect of dilution on the variance of the particle size distribution was also investigated. The main results are tabulated, Tables 1-5 and also plotted as a function of dilution, level Figs. 2-9.
Using the FSSP-100(FSSP) and Microwave Radiometer (MWR), the fog and clear day characteristics (the size and number concentration of fog particles and the liquid water content) have been measured and analyzed at Daegwallyoung observation site ($37^{\circ}41^{\prime}N$, $128^{\circ}45^{\prime}E$) during 27 - 30 November 2003 (fog day) and 19 January 2004 (clear day). During the fog days, the measured fog-particle size by using FSSP is 0.8~8.4 ${\mu}m$, which is similar to the WMO typical value, the fog number concentration varies from 121 to 200 count ($No./cm^2$) and the fog liquid water content from $0.018g/m^3-0.1g/m^3$ in the site. The precipitable water vapor obtained by the MWR, showing the correlation coefficient $R^2$=0.83 between the total precipitable water vapor obtained from the radio sonde and MWR, shows the larger amount (0.75-8.3 cm) during the fog days than the clear-sky data (0.2 cm).
The problem of the flocculation basin was induced by installing the pilot plant using tracer test at Yang-Duck water treatment plant in Pohang cite. The flocculation basin model downscaled as 1/20 was made of acryl and evaluated hydraulically by transforming the section of the effluent in the flocculation basin. The optimum section of the effluent was suggested and applied to the plant. The efficiency of the flocculation basin according to improvement was evaluated by the particle counter which can count the number of particles each size fraction. The results of this study are as follows : First, it was desirable to make the retention time as short as possible because the flow and the index value were similar regardless of the retention time. Second, after the modification in Yang-Duck water treatment plant, the problem of destruction of floe was improved and the plant was operated satisfactorily. The hydraulic experiment with tracer test can be applied to the performance evaluation as well as improvement of facility in unit process of existing water treatment plant. Additionally, it can be used to find a design factor in the new water treatment plant.

This paper dealt with the PD (partial discharge) characteristics produced by metallic particles presented in a gas insulated switchgear. Four types of metallic particles such as a ball, a trapezoid, a rectangle, and a twist were fabricated and placed in a PD cell filled with $SF_6$ gas. PD pulses were detected through a $50{\Omega}$ non-inductive resistor. Calibration was carried out according to IEC 60270 and the sensitivity was calculated as 4 mV/pC. Apparent charge, pulse count, DIV (discharge inception voltage), DEV (discharge extinction voltage), and TRPD (time resolved partial discharge) were analyzed. Among the metallic particle types, the twist frequently occurred PD pulse at the lowest DIV, while the rectangle showed the highest. DEV of the twist was about 2 times lower than that for the rectangle. Kurtosis of ball clustered at high value, and skewness of other three metallic particles distributed at low value. TRPD showed different distribution by metallic particle types.

Chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) process has been widely used to planarize dielectrics, which can apply to employed in integrated circuits for sub-micron technology. Despite the increased use of CMP process, it is difficult to accomplish the global planarization of free-defects in inter-level dielectrics (ILD). Especially, defects like micro-scratch lead to severe circuit failure, and affects yield. CMP slurries can contain particles exceeding $1{\mu}m$ size, which could cause micro-scratch on the wafer surface. The large particles in these slurries may be caused by particle agglomeration in slurry supply line. To reduce these defects, slurry filtration method has been recommended in oxide CMP. In this work, we have studied the effects of filtration and the defect trend as a function of polished wafer count using various filters in inter-metal dielectric(IMD)-CMP. The filter installation in CMP polisher could reduce defect after IMD-CMP. As a result of micro-scratches formation, it shows that slurry filter plays an important role in determining consumable pad lifetime.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae was immobilized by incubating iron oxides with calcium alginate, and by polyacrylamide entrapment to use repeatedly for the conversion of glucose to ethanol. Magnetic and non-magnetic immobilized yeast and polyacrylamide immobilized yeast were compared with the native yeast a batch-fermentation of ethanol from glucose. Three kinds of immobilized yeast tended almost identically, having ethanol productivity as well as the final yield about the same to what was found for the native yeast. The long-term operational stability of three kinds of immobilized yeast were significant difference according as immobilized yeast activation or non-activation before ethanol fermentation. In the non-activation they lost their activity of fermentation rapidly in the beginning stage an slower at a later stage. On the other hand, in the activation with nutrient media, their activities were increased to some extent and stable in the later stage. The cell count of three kinds of immobilized yeast after activiation by incubating nutrient media, increased by a factor of about 45 to 48, whereas the fermenting capacity increased by a factor of 174 to 178. In the prearation of immobilized biocatalysts, magnetic matter does not seem to have any adverse affect on the properties of the microorganism. The immobilized biocatalysts by utilizing magnetic matter have some advantages, especially in application of viscous media or insoluble particle-containing media, for this work was linked with microbial utilization of environmental wastes and elimination of envirnmental pollutant.
The NAS 1638 cleanliness classification system was originally developed in 1966 by the US Aircraft Industries of America to both simplify reporting of particle count data and to control the introduction of dirt during the assembly of aircraft fluid systems. The numbers of particles at stated sizes are represented by broad bands where the interval was generally a doubling of contamination. A number of systems have been introduced since this to suit differing requirements. NAS 1638 and AS4059 are used in other industrial sectors such as the Off-shore & Sub-Sea and the Primary Metal Industries. The changes to ISO contamination measurement standards controlled by ISO/TC131/SC6 in 1999 meant that a revision of most of these classification systems was necessary. The body responsible for NAS 1638 decided to withdraw it for new installations and replace it with an update of an existing standard, SAE AS 4059. This paper details the philosophy behind the contamination coding systems, the reasons for the changes to the ISO contamination standards and explains the workings of AS 4059, the replacement for NAS 1638. It goes on to detail the latest changes to this standard.
We have developed solar and space weather monitoring system for space weather users since 2007 as a project named 'Construction of Korea Space Weather Prediction Center'. In this presentation we will introduce space weather monitoring system for Geostationary Satellites and Polar Routes. These were developed for satisfying demands of space weather user groups. 'Space Weather Monitoring System for Geostationary Satellites' displays integrated space weather information on geostationary orbit such as magnetopause location, nowcast and forecast of space weather, cosmic ray count rate, number of meteors and x-ray solar flux. This system is developed for space weather customers who are managing satellite systems or using satellite information. In addition, this system provides space weather warning by SMS in which short message is delivered to users' cell phones when space weather parameters reach a critical value. 'Space Weather Monitoring System for Polar Routes' was developed for the commercial airline companies operating polar routes. This provides D-region and polar cap absorption map, aurora and radiation particle distribution, nowcast and forecast of space weather, proton flux, Kp index and so on.
Measuring occurrence times of random events, aimed to determine the statistical properties of the governing stochastic process, is a basic topic in science and engineering, and has been the subject of numerous mathematical modeling approaches. Often, true statistical properties deviate from measured properties due to the so called dead time phenomenon, where for a certain time period following detection, the detection system is not operational. Understanding the dead time effect is especially important in radiation measurements, often characterized by high count rates and a non-reducible detector dead time (originating in the physics of particle detection). The effect of dead time can be interpreted as a suitable rarefied sequence of the original time sequence. This paper provides a limit theorem for a high rate (diffusion-scale) counter with extendable (Type II) dead time, where the underlying counting process is a renewal process with finite second moment for the inter-event distribution. The results are very general, in the sense that they refer to a general inter arrival time and a random dead time with general distribution. Following the theoretical results, we will demonstrate the applicability of the results in three applications: serially connected components, multiplicity counting and measurements of aerosol spatial distribution.
In this paper, we demonstrate the neutron attenuation of dry cask shielding materials using the S670e helium-4 detector manufactured by Arktis Radiation Ltd. In particular, two materials expected to be applied to the TN-32 dry cask manufactured by ORANO Korea and KORAD-21 by the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD) were utilized. The measured neutron attenuation was compared with our Monte Carlo N-Particle Transport simulation results, and the difference is given as the root mean square (RMS). For the fast neutron case, a rapid decline in neutron counts was observed as a function of increasing material thickness, exhibiting an exponential relationship. The discrepancy between the experimentally acquired data and simulation results for the fast neutron was maintained within a 2.3% RMS. In contrast, the observed thermal neutron count demonstrated an initial rise, attained a maximum value, and exhibited an exponential decline as a function of increasing thickness. In particular, the discrepancy between the measured and simulated peak locations for thermal neutrons displayed an RMS deviation of approximately 17.3-22.4%. Finally, the results suggest that a minimum thickness of 5 cm for Li-6 is necessary to achieve a sufficiently significant cross-section, effectively capturing incoming thermal neutrons within the dry cask.
