Study on Preparation of Environmental-Friendly Specialty Paper Using Functional Antibiotic Nano-Particle (II) (기능성 항균 나노입자를 이용한 친환경성 특수지 제조에 관한 연구(II))

  • For the purpose of antibacterial and photocatalystic deodorization functions, the papermaking inorganic fillers and pigments were surface-modified with Ag nano-colloidal solution and $TiO_2$ by using the hybridization technique. The functional specialty sheets and coating papers were produced with the surface-modified fillers and pigments, and evaluated by halo test and inhibition growth test in their antibacterial and photocatalystic characteristics. For the application of specially produced antibacterial handsheet to the wallpaper usages, the photocatalyst efficiency test of benzene in volatile organic compound dissolution experiment of antibacterial and deodorization function wallpaper showed that the efficiency was 45~50% for 80 min of reaction time and 90% of attained resolution was reached at approximately 30 min of response time.

Formation of Anodic Films on Pure Mg and Mg alloys for Corrosion Protection

  • Mg and its alloys have been of great interest because of their low density of 1.7, 30% lighter than Al, but their wide applications have been limited because of their poor resistances against corrosion and/or abrasion. Corrosion resistance of Mg alloys can be improved by formation of anodic films using anodic oxidation method in aqueous electrolytes. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is one of anodic oxidation methods by which hard anodic films can be formed as a result of micro-arc generation under high electric field. PEO method utilize not only substrate elements but also chemical components in electrolytes to form anodic films on Mg alloys. PEO films formed on AM50 magnesium alloy in an acidic fluozirconate electrolyte were observed to consist of mainly $ZrO_2$ and $MgF_2$. Liu et al reported that PEO coating on AM30 Mg alloy consists of $MgF_2$-rich outer porous layer and an MgO-rich dense inner layer. PEO films prepared on ACM522 Mg die-casting alloy in an aqueous phosphate solution were also reported to be composed of monoclinic $Mg_3(PO_4)_2$. $CeO_2$-incorporated PEO coatings were also reported to be formed on AZ31 Mg alloys in $CeO_2$ particle-containing $Na_2SiO_3$-based electrolytes. Magnesium tin hydroxide ($MgSn(OH)_6$) was also produced on AZ91D alloy by PEO process in stannate-containing electrolyte. Effects of $OH^-$, $F^-$, $PO{_4}^{3-}$ and $SiO{_3}^{2-}$ ions and alloying elements of Al and Sn on the formation of PEO films on pure Mg and Mg alloys and their protective properties against corrosion have been investigated in this work. $PO{_4}^{3-}$, $F^-$ and $SiO{_3}^{2-}$ ions were observed to contribute to the formation of PEO films but $OH^-$ ions were found to break down the surface films under high electric field. The effect of pulse current on the formation of PEO films will be also reported.

Growth Behavior of Thermally Grown Oxide Layer with Bond Coat Species in Thermal Barrier Coatings

  • The effects of bond coat species on the growth behavior of thermally grown oxide (TGO) layer in thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) was investigated through furnace cyclic test (FCT). Two types of feedstock powder with different particle sizes and distributions, AMDRY 962 and AMDRY 386-4, were used to prepare the bond coat, and were formed using air plasma spray (APS) process. The top coat was prepared by APS process using zirconia based powder containing 8 wt% yttria. The thicknesses of the top and bond coats were designed and controlled at 800 and $200{\mu}m$, respectively. Phase analysis was conducted for TBC specimens with and without heat treatment. FCTs were performed for TBC specimens at $1121^{\circ}C$ with a dwell time of 25 h, followed by natural air cooling for 1 h at room temperature. TBC specimens with and without heat treatment showed sound conditions for the AMDRY 962 bond coat and AMDRY 386-4 bond coat in FCTs, respectively. The growth behavior of TGO layer followed a parabolic mode as the time increased in FCTs, independent of bond coat species. The influences of bond coat species and heat treatment on the microstructural evolution, interfacial stability, and TGO growth behavior in TBCs are discussed.

Characteristics and Release Behaviors of Aromatic Poly(vinyl acetate) Nanoparticles Prepared by Emulsification-Diffusion Technique (유화-확산법에 의해 얻어진 폴리(비닐 아세테이트) 나노 방향 입자의 특성 및 방출 거동)

  • In this study, nano-sized poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) particles containing lavender oil as a core material were prepared by using emulsification-diffusion method. Effects of experimental parameters on the characteristics and the release behavior were examined with a field emission- scanning electron microscope, an electrophoretic light scattering spectrophotometer, a visible spectrophotometer and a high performance liquid chromatography The resulting aromatic particles could be prepared in nano-sized globular shapes with the mean particle size of 224 nm by controlling the experimental conditions. From the evaluation of release properties of aromatic PVAc nanoparticles with or without PVA coating, it was found that the aromatic particles coated with PVA show more sustaining and stable release behaviors. Our research on aromatic PVAc nanoparticles could be applied for durable fragrant finishing for textiles, leather products and so on.

Binding of Vaccine and Poly(DL-lactide-co-glycolide) Nanoparticle Modified with Anionic Surfactant (음이온성 유화제로 수식된 폴리락티드/글리코리드 공중합체 나노 입자와 백신의 결합성)

  • Recently, studies on intranasal mucosa delivery of influenza vaccine have been actively developed because of lack of pain and ease of administration. We studied on preparation of nanoparticle delivery system using biodegradable polymer as a poly(DL-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and their binding characteristics with vaccine. Three kinds of PLGA nanoparticles were prepared by spontaneous emulsification solvent diffusion (SESD) method using sodium dodecyl sulfate and sodium laurate as an anionic surfactant and Lutrol F68 (polyethylene glycol-block-polypropylene glycol copolymer) as a nonionic surfactant. The 5-aminofluorescein labeled vaccine was coated on the surface of nanoparticles by ionic complex. The complexes between vaccine and nanoparticles were confirmed by change of the size. After vaccine coating on the surface of anionic nanoparticles, particle size was increased from 174 to 1,040 nm. However the size of nonionic nanoparticles was not more increased than size of anionic nanoparticles. The amount of coated vaccine on the surface of PLGA nanoparticles was $14.32\;{\mu}g/mg$ with sodium dodecyl sulfate, $12.41\;{\mu}g/mg$ with sodium laurate, and $9.47{\mu}g/mg$ with Lutrol F68, respectively. In conclusion, prepared nanoparticles in this study is possible to use as a virus-like nanoparticles and it could be accept in the field of influenza vaccine delivery system.

Preparation of NiO Coated YSZ Powder for Fabrication of an SOFC Anode (SOFC 음극 제조를 위한 NiO가 코팅된 YSZ 분말의 합성)

  • NiO-coated YSZ powder was prepared using heterogeneous precipitation of Ni hydroxides on YSZ particle surface and high energy milling. The powders were characterized by TG/DTA, XRD, XPS, and SEM. Amorphous Ni precipitate completely decomposed into NiO at $500^{\circ}C$ and the growth of NiO crystallites was constrained by the core particles. Nanocrystalline NiO-coated YSZ core-shell structure powder could be obtained after calcination at $800^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. A core-shell powder compact, due to high sinterability, showed a near theoretical density at $1350^{\circ}C$. After reduction at $900^{\circ}C$, interpenetrating Ni-YSZ microstructure with very uniformly distributed fine Ni and YSZ grains and pores was observed. In contrast, the mechanically mixed oxide sample showed less uniform distribution of pores and larger discontinuous We particles as compared with the core-shell samples.

  • High porous AlO(OH) gel is used in precursor of ceramic material, coating material and porous catalyst. For use of these, not only physiochemical control for particle morphology, pore characteristic and peptization but also studies of synthetic method for preparation of high porous AlO(OH) gel were required. In this study, high porous AlO(OH) gel was prepared through the aging and filtration process of aluminum hydroxides gel precipitated by the hydrolysis reaction of $Na_2CO_3$ solution and $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ and $Na_2SO_4$ mixed solution. In this process, optimum synthetic condition of AlO(OH) gel having excellent pore volume as studying the effect of hydrolysis pH on gel precipitates has been studied. Hydrolysis pH brought about numerous changes on crystal morphology, surface area, pore volume and pore size. Physiochemical properties of gel were investigated as using XRD, TEM, TG/DTA, FT-IR and $N_2$ BET method.

Effect of Addition of Pentaerythritol Triacrylate and Silane Coupling Agents on the Properties of Waterborne Polyurethane (Pentaerythritol Triacrylate와 실란커플링제의 첨가가 수분산 폴리우레탄의 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • Acrylic terminated polyurethane prepolymers were synthesized by capping the NCO groups of polyurethane prepolymers, prepared from isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), polycarbonate diol (PCD) and dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA), with pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA). Subsequently, silylated acrylic terminated prepolymers were prepared by capping the NCO groups of acrylic terminated polyurethane prepolymers with different types of silane coupling agents, glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) or aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APS). The average particle size of pure waterborne polyurethane solution, measured by the dynamic light scattering method, was increased from 14.3 nm to 208.6 nm by adding PETA and APS. Also, the coating film of silylated acrylic terminated waterborne polyurethane showed better abrasion resistance and pencil hardness than that of pure waterborne polyurethane.

Synthesis of Silica Membranes on a Porous Stainless Steel by Sol-Gel Method and Effect of Preparation Conditions on Their Permselectivity

  • A porous stainless steel (SUS) as a substrate of silica composite membranes for hydrogen purification was used to improve mechanical strength of the membranes for industrial application. The SUS support was successfully modified by using submicron Ni powder, $SiO_2$ sols with particle size of 500 nm and 150 nm in turns. Silica top layer was coated on the modified supports under various preparation conditions such as calcination temperature, dipping time and repeating number of dipping-drying process. The calcination temperature for proper sintering was between H ttig temperature and Tamman temperature of the coating materials. Maximum hydrogen selectivity was investigated by changing dipping time. As repeating number of dipping-drying process increased, permeances of nitrogen and hydrogen were decreased and $H_2/N_2$ selectivity was increased due to the reduction of non-selective pinholes and mesopores. For the silica membrane prepared under optimized conditions, permeance of hydrogen was about $3\;{\times}\;10^{-5}\;cm^3{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}{\cdot}cmHg^{-1}$ combined with $H_2/N_2$ seletivity of about 20.

Performance Analysis of Low-level Radiation Shielding Sheet with Diamagnetic Nanoparticles

  • In this study, the authors attempted to produce a medical radiation shielding fiber that can be produced at a nanosize scale and that is, unlike lead, harmless to the human body. The performance of the proposed medical radiation shielding fiber was then evaluated. First, diamagnetic bismuth oxide, an element which, among elements that have a high atomic number and density, is harmless to the human body, was selected as the shielding material. Next, 10-100 nm sized nanoparticles in powder form were prepared by ball milling the bismuth oxide ($Bi_2O_3$), the average particle size of which is $1-500{\mu}m$, for approximately 10 minutes. The manufactured bismuth oxide was formed into a colloidal solution, and the radiation shielding fabric was fabricated by curing after coating the solution on one side or both sides of the fabric. The thicknesses of the shielding sheets prepared with bismuth oxide were 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, and 1.0 mm. An experimental method was used to measure the absorbed dose and irradiation dose by using the lead equivalent test method of X-ray protection goods presented by Korean Industrial Standards; the resultant shielding rate was then calculated. From the results of this study, the X-ray shielding effect of the shielding sheet with 0.1 mm thickness was about 55.37% against 50 keV X-ray, and the X-ray shielding effect in the case of 1.0 mm thickness showed shielding characteristics of about 99.36% against 50 keV X-ray. In conclusion, it is considered that nanosized-bismuth radiation shielding fiber developed in this research will contribute to reducing the effects of primary X-ray and secondary X-ray such as when using a scattering beam at a low level exposure.
