  • Particulate composites of $Al_2O_3$/TiC/SiC, $Al_2O_3$/TiC and $Al_2O_3$/SiC have been fabricated by hot pressing and their R-curve behaviors and mechanical properties were investigated. $Al_2O_3$ containing 30 vol% TiC particles showed higher toughness by 8% than that for monolithic alumina and its fracture strength was increased significantly by approximately 30%. On the other hand, the addition of 30 vol% SiC of $3{\mu}m$ in $Al_2O_3$ decreased the fracture strength slightly but induced a rising R-curve behavior owing to the strong crack bridging of SiC particles. In case of $Al_2O_3$/TiC/SiC, arising R-curve behavior was also observed and the fracture toughness reached 6.6 MPa${\cdot}\sqrt{m}$ at the crack length of $1000{\mu}m$, which was lower than that of $Al_2O_3$/SiC, however, while the fracture strength was higher by about 20%. The fracture toughness seemed to be decreased as smaller TiC particles roughened the SiC interface and pullout of the SiC particles for crack bridging became less active.

  • Fabrication and electrical characterization of R. F. High-power unit capacitors were investigated to study on condition of fabrication processing for R. F. High-power unit capacitor and electrical characteristics according to addition of $ZrO_2$. The unit capacitors were fabricated using tape casting. The optimum mixture ratio of dielectrics and mixing binder for the slurry fabrication was 57.5∼60.0: 42.5∼40.0 wt%. The slurry viscosity was 4000∼5000 cps and casting state of green tape fabricated using these slurry was excellent. Optimum stacking was made by 200 kg/$cm^2$ pressure with 80$^{\circ}C$ heating. $ZrO_2$ was added to improve the electrical characteristics of unit capacitor, especially breakdown characteristics. The dielectric constant and loss factor of the unit condenser having different $ZrO_2$ amounts was not changed in the addition range of 1 to 5 wt%. Also, dielectric constant was not changed in the frequency range of 10 to 500 kHz. It was found that characteristics of resistance voltage was improved through the formation of $CaZrO_3$ and the reduction of particle size as about 3wt% $ZrO_2$ was added.

  • The objective of this study is to analyse the flow field in the branching duct by visualizing the flow phenomena using the PIV system. A bifurcation model is fabricated with transparent acrylic resin to visualize the whole flow field with the PIV system. Water was used as the working fluid and the conifer powder as the tracer particles. The single-frame and two-frame methods of the PIV system and 2-frame of the grey level correlation method are applied to obtain the velocity vectors from the images captured in the flow filed. The velocity distributions in a lid-driven cavity flow are compared with the so-called standard experimental data, which was obtained from by 4-frame method in order to validate experimental results of the PIV measurements. The flow patterns of a Newtonian fluid in a branching duct were successfully visualized by using the PIV system and the sub-pixel and the area interpolation method were used to obtain the final velocity vectors. The velocity vectors obtained from the PIV system are in good agreement with the numerical results of the 3-dimensional branch flow. The results of numerical analyses and the PIV experiments for the three-dimensional flows in the branch ing duct show the recirculation zone distal to the branching point and the sizes of the recirculation length and height of the tow different methods are in good agreement.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of chiffon cakes made with rice flour ranging from 20-100% in place of wheat flour. The water binding capacity of the rice flour was greater than that of the wheat flour and its fat binding capacity was lower than that of the wheat flour. The batter stability data indicated that the 100% treatment was better than the control, and specific gravity values and specific loaf volumes were lower in the samples with added rice flour. Texture analysis found no significant differences in hardness, adhesiveness, cohesiveness, gumminess, and chewiness between the control and the 100% treatment. In the case of crust color, the rice flour-added chiffon cakes did not show any significant differences for their 'a' values. In addition, their crumb color was not significantly different in terms of both their 'L' and 'a' values. According to the sensory evaluation, there was no significant difference in overall acceptability between the control and the rice flour-added chiffon cakes. The highest sensory scores were obtained by the 100% treatment for overall acceptance and moistness. However, flavor, cohesiveness, and brittleness were not significantly different. These study results show that wheat flour could be replaced by rice flour up to 100% in chiffon cake.

  • By Laser Through-Silicon-Via process, debris and particles occur when you are forming. Therefore the research of TSV cleaning become important to remove those particles and debris. Both chemical cleaning method that uses a surfactant and physical cleaning method that uses a brush were studied with the via of $30{\mu}m$ diameter and $100{\mu}m$ depth on the 8 inch CMOS Image Sensor wafer. On the DI water and a surfactant in mixture ratio of 2:1, debris show $73{\mu}m^2$ per $0.054mm^2$. Cleaning is superior by lower mixture ratio of DI water and surfactant. In addition, It is less than 5% of debris distribution in the laser condition changed by Laser's frequency and its speed and cleaning had no effect. In the physical cleaning, there are no crack and damage when the system condition is set by $1000{\sim}3000rpm$ strip, $50{\sim}3000rpm$ rinsing, and $200{\sim}300rpm$ brushing Therefore, debris and particles can be removed by enforced chemical method and physical method.

  • To fabricate a copper (Cu)-based fine conductive filler having antioxidation property, submicron silver (Ag)-coated Cu particles were fabricated and their antioxidation property was evaluated. After synthesizing the Cu particles of $0.705{\mu}m$ in average diameter by a wet-reduction process, Ag-coated Cu particles were fabricated by successive Ag plating using ethylene grycol solvent. Main process parameters in the Ag plating were the concentration of reductant (ascorbic acid), the injection rate of Ag precursor solution, and the stirring rate in mixed solution. Thus, Ag plating characteristics and the formation of separate fine pure Ag phase were observed with different combinations of process parameters. As a result, formation of the separate pure Ag phase and aggregation between Ag-coated Cu particles could be suppressed by optimization of the process parameters. The Ag-coated Cu particles which were fabricated using optimal conditions showed slight aggregation, but excellent antioxidation property. For example, the particles indicated the weight gain not exceeding 0.1% until $225^{\circ}C$ when they were heated in air at the rate of $10^{\circ}C/min$ and no weight gain until 75 min when they were heated in air at $150^{\circ}C$.

  • Selective catalytic reduction(SCR) catalysts are obtained from de-NOx system of thermoelectric power plant. A process was developed for valuable metals such as vanadium and tungsten recovery from spent SCR catalyst by using soda roasting followed by water leaching. Spent SCR catalyst having $V_2O_5$(1.23 mass %) and $WO_3$(7.73 mass %). For getting soluble metal forms of the targeted metals like vanadium and tungsten soda roasting process was implemented. In soda roasting process, sodium carbonate added 5 equivalent ratio at roasted temperature $850^{\circ}C$ with 120 min roasted time for $544{\mu}m$ particle size of spent SCR catalyst. After soda roasting process moved to water leaching for roasted spent catalyst. Before leaching process the roasted spent catalyst was grinded up to $-45{\mu}m$ size. The leaching time is 30 min at $40^{\circ}C$ temperature, 10 % pulp density. The final leaching efficiency obtained 46 % of vanadium and 92 % of tungsten from present process.

  • Silica sol was prepared from the mixture of sodium silicate solution and oxidized silicate solution in which sodium had been removed by sol-gel process. The properties of sodium silicate solution and silicate solution thus prepared were characterized by yellow silicomolydate method. Moreover, the formation and growth of silica sol from sodium silicate solution was investigated. Sodium silicate solution with 2% of $SiO_2$ contains 95% of reactive silicate, and 50% of reactive silicate participates sol-gel reaction. From the results of FT-IR analysis, it was found that the intensity of silanol bond decreased and the intensity of siloxane bond increased with increasing reaction temperature. Zeta potential of silica sol prepared at each condition was -40~-60 mV and it could be known that silica sol in this study was well dispersed. The silica sol with 5~10 nm size could be prepared by heating the mixed solution of sodium silicate and silicate solution. And the silica sol grew into about 20 nm as silicate solution was added to silica sol solution.
