Exhibit Participation and Interaction of Child and Mother in the Children's Museum (어린이박물관에서의 아동과 어머니의 전시참여형태와 아동과 어머니 간의 상호작용에 관한 연구)

  • The present study conducted in the Children's Museum investigated patterns of participation by type of exhibit and interaction with 150 5-to 12-year-old children and 50 mothers. A timing and tracking observation checklist was used to document time spent at each type of exhibit and the interaction of children and mothers. All children chose and spent more time interacting with participatory than non-participatory exhibits and they chose more participatory exhibits than mothers. Mothers chose more non-participatory than participatory exhibits and spent more time with non-participatory exhibits than the preschool group. The preschool age group interacted with mothethan other interactions.

Participatory Behaviors and Interactive Experiences at a Science Museum (과학관에서의 사용자 참여 행동과 상호작용적 경험)

  • In allowing visitors to manipulate objects or models with their hands, science museums can become informal education institutions. However, little research has been conducted analyzing the specific interactions of visitors at museums and the effects that specific characteristics of interactive exhibit have on visitors. This research classified exhibits according to the three characteristics: the presentation of concepts, interaction with exhibits and concept levels. Further, relationships among engagement behaviors, visitors'attraction to exhibits, and the holding power of exhibits were analyzed. Using the three characteristics, 55 exhibits were classified into five styles. The results suggest that intriguing content and novel interfaces, maximizing information on science and technology, should be developed for the educational purpose of encouraging visitors to engage in active learning with interactive exhibits. The results of this study provide useful data that planners, designers, and instructors of science museums can use to maximize visitors' participatory learning and interactions.

Photovoice as a research method and a strategy for community health promotion (지역사회 건강증진 연구방법 및 전략으로서의 포토보이스)

  • Objectives: This study aims to explain the process of photovoice, to review relevant research cases, and to discuss the issues in photovoice applications for community health promotion. Methods: Literature review is performed on photovoice manuals, systematic review literature on international photovoice research, and Korean photovoice studies. The review was based on 8 research papers and 6 practice manuals. Results: Photovoice so far has specified its orientation to participatory research. Its implementation includes photovoice training, photo taking and sharing, interviews and discussions, photo exhibit, and social action planning for policy change. SHOWeD questions and the like guide photovoice discussions while they face some challenges in application. Social action planning for policy change part of the photovoice needs attention in implementation and evaluation. Conclusions: Adherence to the participatory principles and action research orientation in photovoice requires persistent efforts. Process and impact evaluation with development of photovoice research infrastructure will enhance photovoice application.

A Study on Korean Local Governments' Operation of Participatory Budgeting System : Classification by Support Vector Machine Technique (한국 지방자치단체의 주민참여예산제도 운영에 관한 연구 - Support Vector Machine 기법을 이용한 유형 구분)

  • Korean local governments operates the participatory budgeting system autonomously. This study is to classify these entities into clusters. Among the diverse machine learning methodologies(Neural Network, Rule Induction(CN2), KNN, Decision Tree, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, SVM, Naïve Bayes), the Support Vector Machine technique emerged as the most efficacious in the analysis of 2022 Korean municipalities data. The first cluster C1 is characterized by minimal committee activity but a substantial allocation of participatory budgeting; another cluster C3 comprises cities that exhibit a passive stance. The majority of cities falls into the final cluster C2 which is noted for its proactive engagement in. Overall, most Korean local government operates the participatory busgeting system in good shape. Only a small number of cities is less active in this system. We anticipate that analyzing time-series data from the past decade in follow-up studies will further enhance the reliability of classifying local government types regarding participatory budgeting.

A study on Interactive-type Exhibition Using Fractal Images (프랙탈 이미지를 활용한 쌍방향 실감형 전시에 관한 연구)

  • Recent exhibition's paradigm is changing from the existing unidirectional oriented exhibition form to a form of interactive hands-on exhibits that viewers can get and realistically feel a variety of information. Hands-on exhibit embodies the human interface by utilizing light, sound, pressure, etc. in time and space. In this paper, we have studied the creation of fractal image by the Mandelbrot technique and proposed the interaction method for it to be converted into a variety of forms. By using the proposed method, a variety of image transformation such as printmaking effect, sketch effect, Pop Art effect can be performed, according to clicking a certain fraction on the created fractal image screen by a user mouse. Interactive image generated in this study are expected to be used for trade shows, promotional products, media art design.

A Study on the Factors Affecting the Attitude and Behavioral Intention toward the Instagrammable Exhibition: A case study on <Yumi's Cell Special Exhibition>

  • The purpose of this study is to shed light on the relationship between perceived value(PV), attitude toward the exhibition(ATYCSE), and behavioral intention toward the exhibition(BITYCSE) through literature review and quantitative research, focusing on <Yumi's Cells Special Exhibition (2020)> as an Instagrammable exhibition. The exhibition has strong entertainment experience quality, and taking pictures has a positive correlation with the satisfaction as well as the immersion, while sharing the viewing experience on Instagram does not influence on the ATYCSE in terms of the PV. Satisfaction also has meaningful correlations with the immersion and the detail factors of BITYCSE. In particular, it can be confirmed that the storytelling factor occupied a superiority over the exhibit factors or the exhibition environment of the Instagram-friendly exhibition, and through this, the importance of storytelling was confirmed. This research unveils implications for the influence of the interactivity and participatory features of the Instagrammable exhibition on the ATYCSE as a potential factor of PV, and the importance of storytelling in Instagrammable exhibitions.
