  • In this study, surface characteristics and corrosion behaviors have been investigated in addition to Zr elements on the low elastic modulus Ti-30Ta alloy. Low elastic modulus Ti-30Ta-xZr(x : 3, 7 and 15 wt %) alloys were prepared by arc melting and then heat treated at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 24 hrs in an argon atmosphere. Microstructures of the alloys were examined by field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM) and X-ray diffractometer(XRD). Electrochemical experiments were performed using a conventional three-electrode configuration with a sample working electrode, a high density carbon counter electrode and a saturated calomel reference electrode. According to the result of polarization behavior in the Ti-30Ta-xZr alloys, the current density of homogenized Ti-30Ta-15Zr in the passive region was lower than the other alloys.

  • We performed plasma spraying for 2001 (Bi:Cu = 2:1), 0212 (Sr:Ca:Cu = 2:1:2) oxide powders. $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2Ox$ (2212) superconductor has been prepared by PMP-AT (partial melting process-annealing treatment). The 2212 phase is synthesized between Sr-Ca-Cu oxide coating layer (0212) and Bi-Cu oxide coating layer (2001) by movement of partial melted Bi on 2001 layer and the diffusion reaction (Cu, Sr, Ca) after PMP-AT. There are two different coating layers on joining process. The one is ABAB coating layers and the other is BAAB coating layers by arrangement of 2001 (A), 0212 (B) layers. We performed heat treatment these two different coating layers processes under same PMP-AT conditions. We obtained Bi-2212 superconducting layers at each experimental condition, and the result of MPMS, the critical temperature was showed about 78 K. But the microstructure images and result of EDS as each experimental variable were showed about the qualitatively different Bi-2212 superconducting phases. We also deduced the generation mechanism of Bi-2212 superconducting layer as a result of these experimental data, microstruc ture images, EDS data and phase diagram.

  • The Imgye and the Samhwa granitoids distributed in the northeastern part of the Okchon Zone are known to be emplaced during the Mesozoic time. These granitoids intruded the Precambrian metasedimentary bedrocks and Cambro-ordovician sedimentary rocks. Petrographically the Samhwa granitoid is a biotite granite of mainly coars-grained texture with some fine-grained exceptions and the Imgye granitoid contains typically large phenocrysts of pinkish K-feldspars. Geochemical discriminators in terms of major elements suggest that the Samhwa and the Imgye granitoids are I-type and magnetite series. These granitoids are also classified as calc-alkalic rocks of subalkalic series. The Imgye and the Samhwa granitoids could have been evolved mainly by fractional crystallization and minimum partial melting respectively.

  • Steam Generator has been manufactured by welding process after partial manufacturing of various steel forgings such as shell, head and tube sheet. Usually, these steel forgings are made by open die forging process. After steel melting and ingot making, open die forging has been carried out to get a good quality which means high soundness and homogeniety of the steel forgings by using high capacity hydraulic press. This paper introduced open die forging development status of the large steel forgings which is used for the steam generator of 1,400MW next generation nuclear power plant.

  • Laser keyhole welding is investigated using a three-dimensional Gaussian heat source, and the heat source parameters such as the keyhole depth, welding efficiency and power density distribution factor are determined in a systematic way. For partial penetration, the keyhole depth is same as the penetration and is predicted using the experimental data. The welding efficiency is calculated using the ray-tracing method and the power density distribution factor is determined from the bead shape. Full penetration is classified into the transition, normal and excessive modes depending on the degree of keyhole opening. Thermal analysis of the bead-on-plate welds is conducted using the Gaussian heat source, and the calculated weld geometries show reasonably good agreements with the experimental results.

  • Dok island comprises Pliocene volcanic products such as a series of volcanoclastic rocks and lavas ranging in composition from alkali basalts, and trachyandesites to trachytes. Compositional variation of the basaltic rocks can be attributed to fractional crystallization of olivine, clinopyroxene, plagioclase, and magnetite. Chemical variations among the trachyandesites are caused by fractionation of clinopyroxene, plagioclase, and magnetite with minor amphibole, while trachytes are controlled mainly by feldspar fractionation. Incompatible element abundance ratios and chondrite normalized LREE/HREE ratios (e.g., (La/Yb)c: 24.8 to 32.8 for basalts, 15.6 to 31.2 for trachyandesites) suggest that the origins of the basalts and trachyandesites involve both different degrees of partial melting and subsequent fractional crystallization processes. Trace element ratios of the basalts from Dok island are characterized by high Ba/Nb, La/Nb, Ba/Th and Th/U and isotopic ratios (Tasumoto and Nakamura, 1991) that are similar to the EM 1 type of oceanic island basalts such as Gough and Tristan da Cunha basalts.

  • We carried out the experiments for fabricating $Bi_{2}Sr_{2}Ca_{2}Cu_{3}O_{x}$(Bi2223) superconductor thick films on Cu tapes. Cu-free (Bi,Pb)-Sr-Ca-0 powder mixtures were screen- printed on Cu tapes and heat-treated at 840-$860^{\circ}C$ for several minutes in air. Surface microstructures and phases of films were analyzed by XRD and optical microscope. The electric properties of superconducting films were examined by the four probe method. At heat-treatment temperature, the printing layers were in a partially molten state by liquid reaction between CuO in the oxidized copper tape and the precursors which were printed on Cu tapes. During the heat-treatment procedure, it is thought that Bi2223 superconducting particles nucleate at interfaces between Bi2212 phase and liquid.

  • Bi-2212 HTS tube was fabricated by CFP(Centrifugal Forming Process). Slury was prepared in the mixing ratio of 8:2 between powder and binder and ball-milled for 24 hrs. Slurry was initially charged into the rotating mold with 300${\sim}$450 rpm and heated at the temperature ranges of 840${\sim}$860$^{\circ}$C for partial melting to finally obtain a uniformly textured tube shape. It was observed the plate-like grains with more than 20 ${\mu}$m were well oriented along the rotating axis and the measured T$_c$ was around 67K. In this paper we will discuss and analyze the tube characteristics depending on many different processing parameters such as, powder composition, binder mixing ratio between powder and binder, motor speed, heating temperature and etc.

  • The growth of crystals with high melting point$t_{fus}$$\geq$$1600^{\circ}C$ faces the researcher with experimental problems, as the choice of materials that withstand such high t is rather limited. Many metallic construction materials are in this high t range already molten or exhibit at least a drastically reduced mechanical strength. The very few materials with$t_{fus}$$1600^{\circ}C$ as e.g. W, Mo, and partially even Ir are more or less sensitive against oxygen upon heating. Whenever possible, high t crystal growth is performed under inert atmosphere (noble gases). Unfortunately, many oxides are not thermodynamically stable under such conditions, as reduction takes place within such atmosphere. A thoroughly search for suitable growth conditions has to be performed, that are on the one side "oxidative enough" to keep the oxides stable and on the other side "reductive enough" to avoid destruction of constructive parts of the crystal growth assembly. The relevant parameters are t and the oxygen partial pressure${po}_{2}$. The paper discusses quantitatively relevant properties of interesting oxides and construction materials and wasy to forecast theri behavior under growth conditions.
