Steel-concrete composite structures have been extensively used in building, bridges, and other civil engineering infrastructure. Shear stud connectors between steel and concrete are essential in composite members to guarantee the effectiveness of their behavior in terms of strength and deformability. This study focuses on investigating the shear stiffness of headed studs embedded in several types of concrete with wide range of compressive strength, and their effects on the elastic behavior of steel-concrete composite girders were evaluated. Firstly, totally 206 monotonic push-out tests from the literature were reviewed to investigate the shear stiffness of headed studs embedded in various types of concrete (NC, HPC, UHPC etc.). Shear stiffness of studs is defined as the secant stiffness of the load-slip curve at 0.5Vu, and a formulation for predicting defined shear stiffness in elastic state was proposed, indicating that the stud diameter and the elastic modulus of steel and concrete are the main factors. And the shear stiffness predicted by the new formula agree well with test results for studs with a diameter ranging from 10 to 30 mm in the concrete with compressive strength ranging from 22.0 to 200.0MPa. Then, the effects of shear stiffness on the elastic behaviors of composite girders with different sizes and under different loading conditions were analyzed, the equations for calculating the stress and deformation of simply supported composite girders considering the influence of connection's shear stiffness were derived under different loading conditions using classical linear partial-interaction theory. As the increasing of shear stiffness, the stress and deflection at the most unfavorable section under partial connected condition tend to be those under full connected condition, but the approaching speed decreases gradually. Finally, the connector's shear stiffness was recommended for fully connection in composite girders with different dimensions under different loading conditions. The findings from present study may provide a reference for the prediction of shear stiffness for headed studs and the elastic design of steel-concrete composite girder.
A derelict bridge called WoljungGyo was restored in Gyeongju, the capital city of ancient Silla. WoljungGyo was originally built in 760AD, and later rebuilt in 1280AD during the Goryeo Kingdom. The bridge lasted in working condition for at least 520 years. The bridge was uncovered to the remains of both abutments and four piers, with only one or two steps remaining. One of the foundation for piers showed evidence of partial settlement. The cause of the partial settlement is important for the successful restoration of the bridge so that an extensive investigation was carried out, which includes layer stratification by boring, 2-D stiffness profiling by surface-wave tests, and large scaled-plate load test for evaluating capacity. In addition to the field studies in the Woljunggyo bridge, 3-D finite element analysis was also conducted. Based on the results of the site investigation and the numerical analysis, it was concluded that the further ground improvement to build the piers was not necessary so that the gravels were placed and leveled underneath the existing pier stones to compensate partial settlement before the restoration.

A lot of the research paper was reported about the result of influence of IMC (Intra-mobile connector) in the IMZ implant placed solely in the alveolar bone, but reports about the effect of IMC on functional load at state of connecting with natural teeth ere rare. The major propose of this study was find the mechanical character of IMC itself by using the finite element analysis program after simulated variance of condition connected with the natural teeth and implant on funcional load. When first and second premolar was lost, IMZ implant was placed with a diameter of 3.3mm and a length of 13mm with IMC in second premolar area. Rigid connection was done and the non-figid connention was located on the female part of the canine abutment and the implant respectively and then both the infraocclusion of $30{\mu}m$ and the non-infraocclusion under the load of 40kg applied to the portion of the natural teeth, the pontic and the implant. The displacement and the stress of it was estimated and analyzed IMC itself of the rigid connection and the non-rigid connection was grouped. The following result were obtained. 1. In all groups, the displacement of Y-axis was greater than that of X-axis and the aspect of displacement showed that IMC was displaced downward and to the center. 2. There was no differences in the displacement of IMC regardless of the connection type. 3. In the displacement of IMC, I 4 was the least, I 1 and I 3 are similar and I 2 was the greatest. 4. There was no differences in the peak value of maximal stress of IMC regardless of the connection type. 5. In the peak value of maximal stress of IMC, I 4 was the least, I 1 and I 3 were similar, and I 2 was the largest.

Maneuvering performance is crucial for fishing vessels, especially under operational conditions that involve frequent course changes and weight variations due to catch. Small vessel accidents account for approximately 60% of maritime incidents as of 2022, mainly attributed to collisions and stranding accidents due to insufficient maneuvering performance. Especially, accidents that occur on small vessels less than 10 tons account for about 65% of all accidents. The absence of international standards presents challenges in accurately evaluating the maneuvering performance of small vessels. In this study, a 4.99-ton small fishing vessel was selected as the target, and a 3d-cad model was created. The commercial numerical analysis program STAR-CCM+ was employed to establish a simulation environment for the vessel's maneuvring motion. Based on this standard loading conditions and weight distribution were considered, 10° / 10°, 20° / 20° zigzag tests and 35° turning test were conducted. The results revealed a tendency for decreased yaw and course-keeping performance and improved turning performance as the hull weight increased. However, in partial arrival and full load departure condition, the manoeuvering performance were relatively poor. Based on this, the need for evaluation of maneuvering and standardized criteria of maneuvering performance for safe navigation of small vessels is presented. Furthermore, it is expected that the evaluation results of maneuvering performance in this study can serve as fundamental data for establishing criteria for evaluating the maneuvering performance of small vessels.

The performance of fault diagnostics for a planetary gearbox depends on vibration modulation characteristics, which can vary with manufacturing & assembly tolerance, and load condition. In this paper, a fault diagnostics technique that considers vibration modulation characteristics is proposed for the effective fault detection of planetary gearboxes in wind turbines. For identifying the vibration modulation characteristics in practice, re-sampled vibration signals are processed with narrow band-pass filters. Thereafter, the optimal position of the vibration extraction window is identified for effective detection of faulty signals under the varying vibration modulation characteristics. The proposed diagnostics technique makes it possible to perform robust diagnostics of the planetary gearbox with regard to the changeable vibration modulation effect. For demonstrating the proposed fault diagnostics technique, a 2-kW WT testbed is designed with two DC motors and gearboxes. A faulty gear with partial tooth breakage is machined and assembled into the gearbox.
Structural failures are undesirable events that devastate the construction industry resulting in loss of life, injury, huge property loss, and also affect the economy of the region. Roof truss failures occur mainly due to excessive loading, improper fabrication, deterioration, inadequate repair, etc. Although very rare, a roof truss may even fail due to inappropriate location of supports. One such case was reported from the recent failure of a steel roof truss used in an indoor stadium at Kargil in India. Kargil region, being mountainous in nature, receives heavy snowfall and hence the steel roof trusses are designed for heavy snow loads. Due to inappropriate support location, the indoor stadium's steel roof truss had failed under heavy snow load for which it was designed and became an interesting structural engineering problem. The failure observed was primarily in terms of yielding of the bottom chord under the supports, leading to partial collapse of the roof truss. This paper summarizes the results of laboratory tests and analytical studies that focused on the validation of the proposed remedial measure for rehabilitating this distressed steel roof truss. The study presents the evaluation of (i) significant reduction in strength and stiffness of the distressed truss resulting in its failure, (ii) desired recovery in both strength and stiffness of the rectified truss contributed by the proposed remedial measure. Three types of models i.e., ideal truss model, as build truss model and rectified truss model were fabricated and tested under monotonic loading. The structural configuration and support condition varied in all the three models to represent the ideal truss, distressed truss and the rectified truss. To verify the accuracy of the experimental results, an analytical study was carried out and the results of this analytical study are compared with the experimental ones.

The present work was conducted to build a propulsion system for an airship. For this purpose, free shaft gas-turbine was modified to produce electrical power. he experiments were carried out to analyze the driving rotor condition at various power shaft loads. From this analysis, an appropriate damping device was required, and the changeable inertial moment from the fly-wheel was applied. Without the appropriate damping device, instability was found, and it was resulted as power loss. Also the amount of inertial moment was certified by the performance of dynamic transient effects from the engine test results. Knowledge gained from this research could benefit the propulsion and power conversion community by increasing the better understanding of shaft loads and inertial effects.
In the sapphire wafering process, lapping is a crucial operation in order to reduce the damaged layer and achieve the target thickness. Many parameters, such as pressure, velocity, abrasive, slurry and plate, affect lapping characteristics. This paper presents an experimental investigation on the effect of the plate groove on the material removal rate and roughness of the wafer. We select the spiral pattern and rectangular type as the groove shapes. We vary the groove density by controlling the groove shape dimension, i.e., the groove width and pitch. As the groove density increases to 0.4, the material removal rate increases and gradually reaches a saturation point. When the groove density is low, the pressing load is mostly supported by the thick film, and only a small amount acts on the abrasives resulting to a low material removal rate. The roughness decreases on increasing the groove density up to 0.3 because thick film makes partial participations of large abrasives which make deep scratches. From these results, we could conclude that the groove affects the contact condition between the wafer and plate. At the same groove density, the pitch has more influence on reducing the film thickness than the groove width. By decreasing the groove density with a smaller pitch and larger groove width, we could achieve a high material removal rate and low roughness. These results would be helpful in understanding the groove effects and determining the appropriate groove design.

The feasibility of applying the shortcut nitrogen removal process to treat livestock wastewater on individual farms was examined, and appropriate operating parameters were established. As a result,, it was determined that the nitrification reaction was carried out under 550 mg/L of ammonium nitrogen concentration, but it was less effective under conditions of high ammonia concentration. Consequently, it was confirmed that a partial injection of inflow water was necessary to minimize the effects of ammonia toxicity. Following the sequential batch reactor (SBR) operation results, it was difficult to achieve the effluent quality standard without an external carbon source. Also, selection of the appropriate hydraulic retention time was critical for the optimal SBR operation. Following the livestock farm application, with external carbon source injecting, the total nitrogen concentration in the effluent was 85.1 mg/L. This result revealed that the standard could be accomplished through a single treatment on individual livestock farms. The ratio of nitrite nitrogen to ammonia nitrogen in the effluent was verified to be suitable for implementing the anammox process with a 10 days of hydraulic retention time. This study demonstrated the potential applicability of process in the future. However, in order to apply to livestock farms, managing variations in wastewater load across individual farms and addressing reduced nitrogen oxidation efficiency during the winter season are crucial.
This study was conducted on greenhouses whose side heights had been raised after the columns of 1-2W basic type greenhouses had been cut and welding with the same-sized pipes. When the wind load or snow load affects restructured pipe greenhouse like this, those parts will be structurally unsafe. To examine this, the bending strength of welded columns were measured through four stages and compared with the pipes in their original condition. Results are as follows. In the case of a bending test on welded joints about steel pipes used for greenhouses, satisfactory results couldn't be drawn because sections of both ends and the loading parts couldn't endure loads and sank regardless of loading methods. Partial problems could be solved by inserting inside pipe(steel bar) at the sections and the loading parts, but it was necessary to devise more satisfactory bending test methods. The strength of welded joints wasn't much different compared with original conditions and demonstrated only slight differences according to the sample production conditions. However, significant incompleteness in the welding process was expected to cause a decisive loss in strength. On the assumption that there were no problems in the welding process or with regard to the inclination of sub materials for columns after connection, it was deemed reasonable to assume that the strength of welded pipes was about 84~90% of the strength of the pipes in their original condition. Considering mid- and long-term strength decline following the onset of rust at joints or welding sections, structural changes in the main sub materials that are used for greenhouses at farmhouses have to be avoided to ensure structural safety, unless these changes are inevitable.
