To acquire a performed and practical solution that is free from chattering, this study proposes the use of an adaptive super-twisting algorithm to drive a single-phase induction motor. Partial feedback linearization is applied before using a super-twisting algorithm to control the speed and stator currents. The load torque is considered an unknown but bounded disturbance. Therefore, a time-varying switching gain that does not require prior knowledge of the disturbance boundary is proposed. A simple sliding surface is formulated as the difference between the real and desired trajectories obtained from the indirect rotor flux oriented control strategy. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control structure, an experimental setup around a digital signal processor (dS1104) is developed and several tests are performed.

A low power consuming laser scanning vibrometer is studied for its development. For its optical system, a laser interferometer is constructed to use the Doppler effect. In order to reduce the driving power of the scanning system, a small displacement of the scanning system is produced, which is achieved by using a magnetostrictive actuator. A sufficient rotating angle of the scanning system is obtained by using an amplified displacement from the resonant phenomena of a second order mechanical system composed of a mass and spring. The control of the magnetostrictive actuator using a Terfenol-D is performed without using a feedback system to help reduce the power consumption. The vibration analysis is made for the sinusoidal scanning input to have the space domain information from the time domain of the velocity of a vibration object. As a partial work of development of a tow power consuming laser scanning vibrometer, in this work, a scanning system which has the above features is developed and experimentally investigated. For the purpose of the optical system calibration, the vibration measurement for one axis is presented and the future works are discussed.

Recently, to utilize the limited bandwidth effectively, the concept of partial response (PR) signaling has widely been adopted in both the high-speed data transmission and high-density digital recording/playback systems such as digital microwave, digital subscriber loops, hard disk drives, digital VCR's and digital versatile recordable disks and so on. This paper is concerned with adaptive equalization of partial response channels particularly for the magnetic recording channels. Specifically we study how the PR channel equalizers work for different choices of desired or reference signals used for adjusting the equalizer weights. In doing so, we consider three different configurations that are actually implemented in the commercial products mentioned above. First of all, we show how to compute the theoretical values of the optimum Wiener solutions derived by minimizing the mean-squared error (MSE) at the equalizer output. Noting that this equalizer MSE measure cannot be used to fairly compare the three configurations, we propose to use the data MSE that is computer just before the final detector for the underlying PR system. We also express the data MSE in terms of the channel impulse response values, source data power and additive noise power, thereby making it possible to compare the performance of the configurations under study. The results of extensive computer simulation indicate that our theoretical derivation is correct with high precision. Comparing the three configurations, it also turns out that one of the three configurations needs to be further improved in performance although it has an apparent advantage over the others in terms of memory size when implemented using RAM's for the decision feedback part.
Many companies have recently become interested in using social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook as a new channel to communicate with their customers. For example, companies often offer "special deals" (e.g., coupons, discounts, free samples, etc.) to their customers who participate in promotions or events on social networking sites. Companies often make important announcements on their products or services on social networking sites. By doing so, customers are encouraged to continue to have relationships with companies on social networking sites and to recommend the companies' presence on social networking sites to other potential customers. Moreover, customers who keep close relationships with companies on social networking sites often provide the companies with valuable suggestions and feedback. For instance, Starbucks has more than 2 million followers on Twitter, and often receive suggestions and feedback for their product offerings and services from the followers on Twitter. Although companies realize potential benefits of using social networking sites as a channel to communicate with their customers, it appears that many companies have difficulty forging long-lasting relationships with customers on social networking sites. It is often reported that many customers who had followed companies on Twitter later stopped following them for various reasons. Therefore, it is an important issue to understand what motivates customers to continue to keep relationships with companies on social networking sites. Nonetheless, due attention has yet paid to this issue until recently. This study intends to contribute to our understanding on customers' intention to continue to follow companies on Twitter and to spread positive word-of-mouth about companies on Twitter. Specifically, we identify seven potential factors that customers perceive as important in evaluating their experience with companies on Twitter. The seven factors include similarity, receptivity, interactivity, ubiquitous connectivity, enjoyment, usefulness and transparency. We posit that the seven perception factors can affect the two types of satisfaction, emotional and cognitive, which can in turn influence on customers' intention to follow companies on Twitter and to spread positive word-of-mouth about companies on Twitter. Research hypotheses formulated in this study were tested with data collected from a questionnaire survey administered to customers who had been following companies on Twitter. The data was analyzed with the partial least square (PLS) approach to structural equation modeling. The results of data analysis based on 177 usable responses were generally supportive of our predictions for the effects of the seven factors identified and the two types of satisfaction. In particular, out results suggest that emotional satisfaction was strongly influenced by perceived similarity, perceived receptivity, perceived enjoyment, and perceived transparency. Cognitive satisfaction was significantly influenced by perceived similarity, perceived interactivity, perceived enjoyment, and perceived transparency. While cognitive satisfaction was found to have significant and positive effects on both continued following and word-of-mouth intentions, emotional satisfaction had a significant and positive effect only on word-of-mouth intention.
Acetolactate Synthase (ALS) was partially purified from the yeast and its basic biochemical studies were carried out. Yeast was grown in the minimum media containing 0.5% glucose, 51 mM $K_2HPO_4$, 22 mM $KH_2PO_4$, 8 mM $(NH_4)2SO_4,\;0.4\;m M\;MgSO_4$ for 18 hours at 37 $^{\circ}C$. The cell was ruptured in the buffer (20 mM phosphate buffer pH 7.0, 0.1 mM TPP, 0.5 mM DTT, 1 ${\mu}M$ FAD, and 1 mM MgCl_2$) following an overnight suspension. The supernatant fraction was collected from $10,000{\times}g$ and the enzyme was further purified by ammonium sulfate fractionation, DEAE-Sephacel chromatography and leucine-agarose chromatography. The enzyme activity was measured under the various conditions by the function of protein concentration, time, temperature, pH, and substrate. The optimum temperature was found to be 50$^{\circ}C$, optimum pH 8.0∼8.5. The kinetic parameters, $K_m\;and\;V_{max}$ were 8.4 mM and 17.9 nmol/mg/min respectively. Stability of the enzyme was studied with ethylene glycol and glycerol added to the enzyme solution. Both ethylene glycol and glycerol improved the enzyme stability up to 50%. The study of feedback inhibition showed that valine was a strong inhibitor while leucine was a weak inhibitor.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the patterns and features of interaction in teacher interviewing with high school students' small group for biology learning. The interactions in variety between the students and between the students and the teacher were made as the interviews with each small group were repeated to feedback for biology learning. The patterns of interaction were categorized into four types by interactive level of interaction among group members and a teacher: leader representation without interaction among students and the teacher(LR, leader representation), interaction among a part of students and the teacher(PSI, partial students interaction), active interaction among students inside the group, but only interaction between the teacher and the leader student(SAI, students active interaction), and interaction between all of the students and the teacher(teacher-students active interaction). Even though complex patterns of interactions were made among the students at the initial stage of insufficient understanding on the study concept, the simple interaction processes were shown as students had gradually completed the understanding on the concept. It was displayed that the interaction in the small group for biology study provides the opportunity to confirm and understand the concept to the students who were poor at the understanding on the concept, and it can influence positively on the mutual creation of study concept.

Suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) is known to playa key role as a negative feedback regulator in JAK/STAT signaling cascade in innate immunity. Our laboratory has recently been interested in elucidating the interactions between Spodoptera exigua (Se) and SeNPV. This context leads us to clone and characterize SeSOCS that may have important functions in response to SeNPV infection. Using the RT-PCR and TA cloning approach, we found a partial fragment (416 bp) of SeSOCS. Blast search and multiple alignment data showed that it has a homology to various insects such as Anopheles gambiae (78%), Aedes aegypti (75%), Drosophila melanogastar (77%), Mus musculus (69%), and Homo sapiens (69%). Temporal induction patterns of SeSOCS were analysed after being immune-challenged with either NPV or laminarin. It showed that the level of SeSOCS mRNA was strongly induced in a biphasic manner in response to SeNPV and laminarin, respectively. It seems that SOCS, a negative regulator of JAK/STAT signaling system is also present in S. exigua and may playa role in innate immunity albeit its precise role should be further elucidated at the molecular and cellular level in the early phase of SeNPV infection in larvae.

When adapting the transmitter to the channel state information(CSI), improved transmission is possible compared to the open loop system where no CSI is provided at the transmitter. However, since the perfect channel information is rarely available at the transmitter, the system design based on the partial CSI becomes an important factor. Especially, in mobile environments, the consideration for the outdated CSI should be applied for mitigating the performance degradation. In this paper, we propose a robust adaptive modulation and coding scheme for bit-interleaved coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing over time-varying channels. With reasonable feedback overhead, the proposed scheme shows the enhanced performance by compensating for the outdated CSI due to Doppler spread. Simulation results confirm that the performance gain is achieved by applying an accurate BER estimation method.
With the rapid development of information and communication technology, a lot of multi-media learning programs are being developed and reported in the field of Emergency medicine both home and abroad. In this connection, this study was aimed at developing a foreign-body airway obstruction courseware in adults for EMT. The development period of CAI courseware lasted from May 2003 through November 2003. Among CAI courseware patterns, private instruction and repeat practice and simulation patterns were used as an instruction-learning strategy. The learning contents of the CAI courseware consisted of five chapters concerning (1) A relief of partial FBAO in the responsible victim, (2) A relief of complete FBAO in the responsible victim, (3) In case of unconsciousness in the responsible victim without removing all foreign body, (4) In case of consciousness in all victims after getting removed all foreign body and (5) A complete airway obstruction in victims without consciousness on the basis of assess responsiveness and the degree of airway obstruction. The way to use this courseware, with just a click on one specific chapter, was developed to proceed a course with progressive algorithm, a method of solving problems by choosing one between two situations. A characteristic of this CAI courseware is the enhanced efficiency of an instruction-learning method by providing an opportunity of choice based on situations in its effort to encourage learners to use a self-initiated learning method, not one-way method and to enhance problem solving skills among situations. Moreover, this courseware went through the diverse phases such as development, application, feedback in connection with learning process by practicing teachers, so that the courseware could be used frequently in the future. The contents of this courseware were written with the web, so that, if necessary, the contents could be continuously modified and complemented and handed out in the form of CD-ROM. This study indicates that the development of a variety of CAI courseware requires institutional and financial assistance and initiatives reflecting a reality in terms of learning process, technical assistance and resources.

This paper presents a neural network controller design for complex damage to a blended wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV): partial loss of main wing and vertical tail. Longitudinal/lateral axis instability and the change of flight dynamics is investigated via numerical simulation. Based on this, neural network based adaptive controller combined with two types of feedback linearization are designed in order to compensate for the complex damage. Performance of two kinds of dynamic inversion controllers is analyzed against complex damage. According to the structure of the dynamic inversion controller, the performance difference is confirmed in normal situation and under damaged situation. Numerical simulation verifies that the instability from the complex damage of the UAV can be stabilized via the proposed adaptive controller.
