  • A new taxon, Hymenophyllum wrightii f. serratum C.S. Lee & K. Lee (Hymenophyllaceae), forma nov. was collected and described from forests in Mt. Halla, Jeju-do, Korea. This taxon, H. wrightii f. serratum C.S. Lee & K. Lee (vernacular name: 'Gu-reum-cheo-nyeo-i-kki') was distinguished from H. wrightii f. wrightii by having smaller leaves, broader basal part of leaf blade, broad-ovate laminae, larger sori and serrate margins of lips of involucres. The new taxon's name is based on serrate margin shape of the lips. A Korean name, 'Gu-reum-cheo-nyeo-i-kki', was newly given based on its habitat. Descriptions and its photograph in the habitat are provided along with a key to the species of Hymenophyllum from Korea.

  • This study was carried out to classify the folk plants in Ulleung island. According to the survey results from 553 sheets of 55 residents at 20 places from march 2009 to september 2010, the folk plants in Ulleung island consisted of a total 113 taxa; 51 families, 93 genera, 98 species, 2 subspecies and 13 varieties. Among the investigated 113 taxa; 5 Korean endemic plants, 14 rare plants and 5 naturalized plants were also included. The use by usage of 113 taxa was; 72 as medicinal, 65 as edible, 5 as ornamental, etc., respectively, so the medicinal use is the highest. The most useful part was leaf, followed by fruit and root. The consistency comparison between the korean name and the local name were the highest in the people in 40's and the lowest in those in 70's.

  • When an existing user authorization systems in Grid access many user to local system and subject DN (Distinguished Name) in a user-proxy authenticate and ID in local system is one-to-one mapping, they have difficulties in ID management, memory resource management and resource management. At this, a variety of subject DN is shared of one local ID in an existing Grid. But this faces many difficulties in applying all requirements for many Grid users. Thus, we suppose user authorization system based on a certificate not them based on ID in this paper. That is, we add user's access level to extension field in a certificate, and make a supposed authorization system decide access limitation level on resources instead of an existing ID mapping methods.

  • The information extraction is to delimit in advance, as part of the specification of the task, the semantic range of the output and to filter information from large volumes of texts. The most representative word of the document is composed of named entities and pronouns. Therefore, it is important to resolve coreference in order to extract the meaningful information in information extraction. Coreference resolution is to find name entities co-referencing real-world entities in the documents. Results of coreference resolution are used for name entity detection and template generation. This paper presents the heuristic-based approach for coreference resolution in Korean. We constructed the heuristics expanded gradually by using the corpus and derived the salience factors of antecedents as the importance measure in Korean. Our approach consists of antecedents selection and antecedents weighting. We used three kinds of salience factors that are used to weight each antecedent of the anaphor. The experiment result shows 80% precision.

  • Chosundoseohaeje, a book type catalog was published three times under the rule of Japanese imperialism. This catalog has several characteristics of modem catalog as fellows : First, each record of this catalog includes title, volume no., statements of responsibility, printing type, annotated bibliography containing date, author, background, structure, contents of the book, and biographies. Second, this catalog has a subject retrieval system by the four-part classification(Kyung, Sa, Ja, Jib), title retrieval system by Japanese alphabetical index, and authorㆍeditor retrieval system by their family name index or king's name index. Third, this catalog has a system indicating the location of described books by Gyujanggak book numbers.

  • The purpose of this paper is to build a computer vision system that endows an autonomous mobile robot the ability of automatic measuring of the analog and digital meters installed in nuclear power plant(NPP). This computer vision system takes a significant part in the organization of automatic surveillance and measurement system having the instruments and gadzets in NPP under automatic control situation. In the meter image captured by the camera, the meter area is sorted out using mainly the thresholding and the region labeling and the meter value recognition process follows. The positions and the angles of the needles in analog meter images are detected using the projection based method. In the case of digital meters, digits and points are extracted and finally recognized through the neural network classifier. To use available database containing relevant information about meters and to build fully automatic meter recognition system, the segmentation and recognition of the function-name in the meter printed around the meter area should be achieved for enhancing identification reliability. For thus, the function- name of the meter needs to be identified and furthermore the scale distributions and values are also required to be analyzed for building the more sophisticated system and making the meter recognition fully automatic.

  • $\ulcorner$Uibujeolok$\lrcorner$ is a part of ${\ulcorner}$gogeumdoseojibseong[古今圖書集成]${\lrcorner}$ edited in 1726 Chinese Ching[淸] Dynasty. It refers ${\ulcorner}$Uibu[醫部]${\lrcorner}$ included in ${\ulcorner}$Bakmulhwipyeon Yesuljeon-Ha[博物彙編 藝術典下], and is composed of 520 volumes with 141 chapters. Though the name of Eubujeolok is used in most printed editions, the proper name was ${\ulcorner}$Uibujibseong[醫部集成]${\lrcorner}$ according to the original text of the copper type printing. Each category consists of 13 parts including Commentary, Diagnosis, and Organs and Bowels etc. And each chapter follows identical structure with categories. This composition type of ${\ulcorner}$Uibujibseong${\lrcorner}$ is similar with that of ${\ulcorner}$Dong-uibogam[東醫寶鑑]${\lrcorner}$ which was published 130 years ahead, but different from those of clinical books which published in China until then. Unusually there is no chapter dealing with Chinese herbs and acupuncture.

  • In order to convert Korean folk paintings called Minhwa, a part of traditional Korean heritage, into DBs, it is necessary to design a classification system suitable for the characteristics of folk paintings. A classification system and the generating of unique codes are required to classify and save them. To realize this, a basic classification system was created by listing objects depicted in folk paintings, and keywords were extracted by reclassifying them for each object. In order to assign a unique code to each piece, we organize the English names of each Minhwa since the English names of the folk painting contain the names of objects. The code name is extracted by applying the order of nouns and consonant priority rules in English names and attaching five Arabic numerals. These codes are later assigned to each image file stored in the database and are input together with the keyword. The Minhwa DB constructed in this way enables storage and search centered on objects and keywords and the intuitive inferring of the type of object from the code name.
