Purpose: Primary malignant lymphomas of the salivary glands are uncommon. The parotid gland was most frequently involved, followed by the submandibular gland, minor salivary gland and sublingual gland. The most common subtype is mucosa - associated lymphoid tissue(MALT) lymphoma. We experienced a case of salivary MALT lymphoma involving parotid gland duct, so report a case with a review of the literature. Methods: A 65 year old female presented with a palpable mass on the left side of her cheek. There was no clinical or laboratory evidence of pre - existing autoimmune disease. Preoperative facial and neck CT with contrast showed $2.1{\times}1.7cm$ sized, ill defined, homogeneous low density mass near left masseter muscle, and no evidence of other enlarged lymph nodes. Results: At operation, a yellowish oval shaped mass was found slightly adhered to middle portion of the parotid gland duct, meaduring $2{\times}1.5{\times}0.7cm$. Microscopic finding showed that centrocyte - like cells, monocyte B cells and plasma cells were diffusely infiltrated. Immunophenotyping was preformed on fixed section. The majority of the small cells were immunoreactive for the B cell marker CD20. Based on the typical histological findings supported by immunostaining, the mass was defined as MALT lymphoma. Conclusion: We report that very rare case of MALT lymphoma involving parotid gland duct in 65 year old female patient was experienced with clinical characteristics, histologic features and references.
Parotid canalicular adenoma is a benign neoplasm that is predominantly composed of branching and interconnecting cords of single or double rows of columnar epithelium in a very loose stroma. There has been considerable confusion in the literature concerning the terminology of canalicular adenoma. However, thesedays it has been newly-recognized as a discrete entity of the monomorphic adenoma group. Canalicular adenoma has a remarkable predilection for occurrence in the minor salivary glands such as the upper lip, in contrast with basal cell adenoma that occurs predominantly in major salivary glands such as the parotid gland. We have experienced a case of canalicular adenoma of the parotid gland in a 65-year-old woman. The patient had a palpable mass on the preauricular area for the last 15 years and recently noticed a mild pain and discomfort on the mass. Neck ultrasonography showed a low echogenic mass of 1.0cm in diameter in the right parotid gland and a neck CT scan showed a well-enhanced rectangular-shaped mass. A superficial parotidectomy was performed for the lesion and the final pathologic diagnosis turned out to be 'multifocal canalicular adenoma'.
Lymphadenoma is a rare benign neoplasm of the salivary gland. Herein, we present a 67-year old woman with lymphadenoma in the parotid gland. Physical and radiologic examinations of parotid lymphadenoma are not specific and preoperative diagnosis is usually difficult. Therefore, clinicians should consider the possibility that lymphadenoma may occur in the parotid gland mimicking the other more frequently observed lesions.
Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma has a high incidence. However, regional metastasis occurs infrequently because skin cancer is usually recognized and treated early. We report the case of squamous cell carcinoma around the earlobe in a 74-year-old male patient. The cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma invaded ipsilateral parotid gland directly without lymphatic spreading. Wide excision was made with 1.5 cm margin and immediate reconstruction was performed with radial forearm fasciocutaneous free flap. During operation facial nerve was preserved. No recurrence was noted for 5 years and the patient was satisfied with good aesthetic result. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma spreads to the parotid gland usually through lymph nodes and there are few reports of invasive organ damage by direct invasion. We experienced a case of direct invasion to parotid gland without lymph node involvement of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and treated the cancer adequately with wide excision and free flap coverage.
Primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the salivary gland is an uncommon tumor that most often occurs in the parotid gland. In the parotid gland, malignant lymphomas are often clinically unsuspected, manifesting as nonspecific mass indistinguishable from other more common epithelial tumors. This case report describes a bilateral parotid glands mass as a first symptom of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The final diagnosis was established after an excisional biopsy and immunohistochemical staining. The patient underwent surgical excision and chemotherapy.

Introduction: The location of parotid gland tumors in the superficial or deep lobes can affect the time and difficulty of operations. Therefore, accurate preoperative evaluation of the tumor location is important for surgical outcomes. Materials and Methods: A total of 16 patients with parotid gland tumors and who underwent a parotidectomy between April 2003 and March 2011 were retrospectively reviewed in terms of demographic background, tumor location, surgical treatment, and treatment outcomes. Tumor location was estimated by four landmarks on contrast enhanced computerized tomography scans, which were Conn's arc, the facial nerve (FN) line, the Utrecht line, and the retromandibular vein. Tumor location was confirmed by relative position depending on the facial nerve during surgery. It was assumed positive since the tumor lies in the superficial lobe of the parotid gland, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and efficiency of each landmark were evaluated. Results: Our result revealed that the facial nerve line had a sensitivity of 83.3%, specificity of 100%, positive predictive value of 100%, negative predictive value of 71.4%, and efficiency of 87.5%. Some would be more efficient preoperative evaluation methods of the relationship of parotid gland tumors to the facial nerve than others. Conclusion: In our study, the FN line was found to be the most reliable analysis method.
Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign tumor in the parotid gland and a parotidectomy with preservation of the facial nerve is a widely accepted treatment. We experienced a case of huge pleomorphic adenoma arising in the parotid gland with suspicious skin invasion. This present case was 67-year-old male presenting huge parotid mass $(12{\times}7cm)$ that has been present for 30 years and this tumor showed rapid-growing nature recently. The overlying skin surface was ulcerated with serous discharge and tightly adherent to the mass. The risk of malignant transformation of a pleomorphic adenoma increases with the duration of disease. The preoperative tentative diagnosis was carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma in the parotid gland. The initial pathologic diagnosis of fine needle aspiration biopsy was unsatisfactory smear. After parotidectomy, the histologic examination revealed that the parotid tumor was benign pleomorphic adenoma. We present a case of huge pleomorphic adenoma with skin invasion in the parotid gland with review of literatures.

Acinic cell carcinoma is a rare salivary gland carcinoma, usually being found in the parotid gland and is uncommon in the other major and minor salivary glands. The tumor cells consist of either serous or mucous acinar cells with few ductal or myoepithelial cell elements. The tumor is a low-grade malignancy with slow growth potential. Surgical therapy depends on tumor size and the extent of infiltration into neighboring tissues. Superficial parotidectomy or total parotidectomy is the initial method of therapy in case of acinic cell carcinoma on parotid gland. When regional neck lymph nodes are involved, the operation is combined with a neck dissection, or with radiation therapy. In the short follow up period, acinic cell carcinoma has good prognosis with 5 year survival rate after surgery is over 80%. In the long-term follow-up, however, there is a tendency to increase in recurrence or metastasis. We experienced a case of acinic cell carcinoma of parotid gland in a 57-year-old female, so we report it with literatures review.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common type of salivary gland tumor and the most common tumor of the parotid gland. Because of its propensity for invasion, pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid requires superficial parotidectomy or total parotidectomy to minimize the risk of tumor recurrence. We report a case of pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland with repeated recurrences. A 23-year-old male patient presented with a protruding neck mass. Six years prior to this presentation, the patient had undergone superficial parotidectomy for the removal of pleomorphic adenoma of the right parotid gland at our institution. The patient experienced recurrence at 17 months after the initial resection, which required a total parotidectomy with partial resection of the facial nerve. Pathologic examination revealed histologic findings consistent with pleomorphic adenoma across the surgical specimen from all three of the operations. The patient suffered from facial nerve paralysis, with facial expressions partially recovered over a year.
Pleomorphic adenomas is the most common tumor of parotid gland and usually located and confined in superficial lobe of parotid gland. Computed tomography (CT) is commonly used to initially evaluate salivary gland lesion, but contrast-enhanced CT may sometimes fail to reveal lesions in spite of a high clinical suspicion. For this reason, ultrasonography (US) can be used as the first-line image work-up in some cases of parotid gland benign tumors. We experienced a case of a 60-year-old woman without underlying disease presenting a palpable parotid mass in which the initial CT examination was reported as 'no obvious mass detected'. However, the lesion was revealed in US and histologically confirmed as pleomorphic adenoma. The patient underwent superficial parotidectomy through modified facelift incision. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of invisible major salivary gland tumor on CT in the Korean literature.
