  • The study was carried out to develop nursery soil for rice seedling of phyllite. First of all, physico-chemical properties of used phyllite in the study through the analysis for agricultural utilization evaluation are as following. Bulk density(BD) of phyllite was $1.31g/cm^3$ each other and porosity had 65% of entire pore size. Also, the water holding capacity(WHC) was 43% at 1/3bar pressure, which phyllite has high WHC. According to, the results the experiments for nursery soil were conducted by mixing the materials such as phyllite, zeolite and hill soil. The mixing ratios were 30, 50, and 70% for zeolite and hill soil into phyllite. These mixed materials were packed in a box by adding 0, 1 and 2g of N-fertilizer. At seedling test, there were increases in the growth of shoot and root of rice for phyllite to zeolite and phyllite to hill soil, respectively. On the other hand, the length of leaf increased with increasing application rate of phyllite, while length and a number of root increased with increasing application rate of hill soil. The growth in the plots of phyllite to zeolite and phyllite to hill soil was better than in control plot. Finally, phyllite plot had efficient results when it compared with others and the study used with phyllite will have to more research and effort for agricultural useful material.

  • An indirect reduction through the bicipital groove and allogenic iliac tricortical bone graft was performed as a treatment for a large Hill-Sachs lesion with a rotator cuff tear in an acute traumatic shoulder joint dislocation in an elderly patient. Six months after surgery, the rotator cuff healing and bone union were confirmed. The patient also showed satisfactory clinical results with 95 points of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) shoulder score and active range of motion with 155° flexion, 120° abduction, and 70° external rotation and 30° internal rotation at 90° abduction. The surgical method can be considered for a large Hill-Sachs lesion with rotator cuff tear in an acute traumatic shoulder joint dislocation in elderly patients.

  • No-tillage dry-seeding of rice can offer potential benefits by reducing time and labor cost compared with conventional tillage practices. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of no-tillage dry-seeding on rice growth and soil hardness in comparison with other rice cultivation methods, machine transplanting and wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy. The seedling stand fell within optimum range for both no-till dry-seeding and wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy. Plant height, number of tillers and SPAD values in no-tillage dry-seeding cultivation were higher than those observed in other methods. There were no significant differences in grain yield of rice among three cultivation methods. The quality characteristics of milled rice grown in no-tillage dry-seeding were similar to those grown in other cultivation methods. Soil hardness in top 10 cm depth was significantly higher in no-tillage dry-seeding than other cultivation methods, while soil hardness below 10 cm depth was highest in machine transplanting cultivation. Results indicate that no-tillage dry-seeding practice is comparable to conventional tillage system in terms of seedling establishment, growth, yield and grain quality.

  • No-tillage practices are expected to provide several benefits such as increasing soil organic matter, reducing labor time and saving energy cost compared with conventional tillage practices. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of no-tillage dry-seeding on rice growth and soil properties in comparison with other rice cultivation methods, machine transplanting and wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy. Rice seedling establishment was slightly higher in no-tillage dry-seeding treatment ($145seedling\;m^{-2}$) than wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy treatment ($111seedling\;m^{-2}$), but the seedling establishment in both treatments fell within the optimum range for direct seeding rice cultivation. Plant height, number of tillers and chlorophyll content (SPAD value) of rice in no-tillage dry-seeding treatment were higher than those of the other treatments. However, no significant differences in grain yield was observed among three cultivation methods, and the yield ranged 5.8 to $5.9ton\;ha^{-1}$. The heading date from seeding under no-tillage dry-seeding treatment was on average 109 days, which was similar to that under machine transplanting treatment (112 days), but 10 days later than that under wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy treatment (99 days). Grain quality characteristics grown in no-tillage dry-seeding were similar to those grown in the other cultivation methods. These results indicate that no-tillage dry-seeding practice is comparable to conventional tillage system in terms of seedling establishment, growth, yields and grain quality.

  • The numerical simulations of flow and pollutant particle dispersion are described for two-dimensional bell shaped hills with various aspect ratios. The Reynolds-averaged incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with low Reynolds number $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ turbulent model are used to simulate the flowfield. The gradient diffusion equation is used to solve the pollutant dispersion field. The code was validated by comparison of velocity, turbulent kinetic energy, Reynolds shear stress, speed-up ratio, and ground level concentration with experimental and numerical data. Good agreement has been achieved and it has been found that the pollutant dispersion pattern and ground level concentration have been strongly influenced by the hill shape and aspect ratio, as well as the location and height of the source.

  • An experiment was conducted at the Yeongnam Crop Experiment Station to obtain basic informations about cultural techniques for high yield by manipulating plant spacing in association with seedling number. Cultivars showing relatively low competition index within or between rice hill were Palgongbyeo, Milyang 83. Milyang 90 and Sangpungbyeo, while those with high competition index were Pungsanbyeo, Samgangbyeo, Weongpungbyeo, Taebaegbyeo and Dongjinbyeo. Variations of agronomic characters such as culm length, spikelets per panicle, grain yield per panicle among each culm within hill were not interrelated among the characters. This phenomenon was also same within and between cultivar groups. However, cultivars having high competitive ability showed relatively low variation in agronomic characters. There was a trend that most of rice cultivars had a high positive correlation between total competition index and rice grain yield. Competition index between rice hill was more significant than that of within rice hill for Tongil type cultivars except Milyang 83 which belonged to low tillering capacity while both types of competition index within and between hill were important for Japonica type cultivars and Milyang 83 of Tongil type cultivar to increase rice yield.
