The purpose of this study was (1) to explore the difference in parental satisfaction regarding personal/family, work, and psychological variables of employment characteristics, and (2) to investigate the most effecting variables on the parental satisfaction. For this study, the working mother with children aged under 10 year were surveyed. The results of this study were as follow; (1) There were significant differences in the parental satisfaction according to work time, job preference, income, the difficulty of work life. However, working mother's personal and family variable were not found as the related variable. Psychological variables were correlated with parental satisfaction. (2) Maternal role efficiency, dual role conflict, flexibility of work, marriage year, income, psychological stress, expanded family, durations of occupation, spouse support significantly predicted parental satisfaction. Psychological variables were important in parental satisfaction of working mothers.

The purpose of this survey was to investigate parental recognition and preference on pediatric dentist and their behavior management technique. The subjects were the parents of new children visiting the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Pusan National University Hospital for 6 months. The questionnaire was performed over 2 times : at 1st visit and 1 month after that. The parental preference about pediatric dentist - one's sex, color of gown and glass-wearing - and about behavior management technique - parental separation, oral sedation, voice control and physical restraints-were asked through the questionaire and obtained the results were as fellows: 1. The preference on sex of dentists was not shown. 2. The parents recognized not so close relation between glass-wearing and children's anxiety level, but on color of gown, showed various opinions. 3. Most parents opposed to the separation from their children in operatory. 4. For the behavior management technique, parents accepted generally. 5. There was no significant difference between the first and second survey.
The purpose of this study was to investigate perceptions of the self-efficacy of youth (self-confidence, self-regulatory efficacy, and task difficulty preference) and the subjective quality of life. The participants in this research were 697 university students 314 males and 383 females. All respondents submitted their answers on a self-report questionnaire. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-tests, Pearson's correlations, and multiple regression analyses. The major results of this study were as follows: (a) Young males exhibited higher levels of self-efficacy perception compared to young females. Regarding the subjective quality of life, gender was not a significant factor. (b) The subjective quality of life was highly correlated with the self-efficacy of youth (self-confidence, self-regulatory efficacy, and task difficulty preference). (c) Self-satisfaction, self-confidence regarding one's career, satisfaction with one's friends, satisfaction with one's parental relationship, quantity of reading, and the amount of study-time all had significant influences on the self-efficacy of youth, whereas the family's socioeconomic status and campus life satisfaction were not significant factors. (d) Self-efficacy had the strongest influence on the youth subjective quality of life. Self-satisfaction, campus life satisfaction, and satisfaction with friends all had significant influences on the youth subjective quality of life, whereas the quantity of reading, the amount of study-time, self-confidence with one's career, the family's socioeconomic status, and satisfaction with one's parental relationship were not significant factors. However, self-confidence with one's career, satisfaction with one's parental relationship, the family's socioeconomic status, and quantity of reading all had different levels of influence on the subjective quality of life for young males and females.
In this study, we explored the factors related with preference for and participation in science-related activities of elementary school students. We developed a questionnaire to measure the characteristics of students such as motivation toward science learning, science aspiration, family science orientation, parental educational level and occupation, and the degrees of preference and participation of science-related activities. The questionnaire was administered to about 400 fourth graders in Seoul. The results revealed that the students with higher motivation toward science learning and/or science aspiration preferred and participated more in most activities. It was also found that parental educational level and occupation did not make an appreciable difference in preference and participation. The students who perceived their parents to be science-oriented, however, preferred and participated more in most activities. These results may offer practical implications for effective uses of both school and out-of-school science activities in elementary science education.
In terms of awareness of Korean traditional food, elementary students are most affected by their parents. The objective of this study was to analyze upper grade elementary students' parental awareness and preference of Korean traditional foods in the Chungnam Area. In a survey of 126 parents, 58% of subjects were interested in Korean traditional foods, but there was no significant difference according to age. About 87% of parents thought that inheritance of knowledge on Korean traditional foods was needed. The reasons for inheritance of knowledge on Korean traditional foods were 'To stick to style of Korean traditional foods' (68.2%), 'Palatable' (21.8%), 'Education for children' (6.4%), and 'Beautiful and fine custom' (3.6%). The awareness point of 'Korean traditional foods are easy for cooking' increased with increasing age (p<0.01). In all age groups, subjects highly recognized that Korean traditional foods are good for health. There were significant correlations between overall preferences for Tteok and Hankwa (r=0.351, p=0.001), Hankwa and Korean traditional drink (r=0.374, p=0.001), and Korean traditional drink and Tteok (r=0.406, p=0.001). As a result, preferences for other items also increased when preference for one of the three traditional foods increased. Therefore, education on Korean traditional foods is necessary in order to satisfy parental preferences.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the level and the reasons of son preference. and the relative importance of related variables among middle-and old-aged Koreans in Chon-buk and Chung-nam area. Subjects were 487 parents of high school girls(243 fathers and 244 mothers). with a mean age of 45.7 years. It was revealed that more than a half of the respondents(52.293) preferred'a son'for the first child, followed by'either nx'(32.6%) and'a daughter'(14.8%). For the second child, a son was preferred nlost(43.7%) , followed by'a daughter'(31.4%) and'either sex'(23.4%) . As the reasons of son preference,'to continue tradition and name of family'marked the highest score (3.42) , followed by'parents prefer son for various reasons'(3.37) , 'should have at least one son'(3.32). and'feel obliged to produce a son for in-law's sake'(3.06). It appeared that sociocultural background was more important for son Preference than individual, economic factors. The most important factors related to a strong son preference were the number of sons at the present, son preference for the first child, parental attitudes and expectations toward children. and income. Suggestions wire made in regard to efforts for gender equality in family and society. and the needs for parent education and population education.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the phenomenon of son preference and the related factors among married women in Metro Manila Philippines and to compare between Filipino women and Chinese-Filipino women in many respects. Local schools were contacted for recruitment of participants (n=206) The results showed that more than a half of the respondents(54.5%) preferred a son for the first child. On the other hand almost a half(44.7%) preferred a daughter for the second child. It is interesting that almost a third of married women showed an equal preference between a son and a daughter for the first child (34.2%) and the second child (31.2%) The results of multiple regression analysis revealed that son preference was most strongly related to women's patriarchal attitude and orientation and secondly to a strong son preference for the first child. Two groups of women Filipino and Chinese-Filipino were compared in the level of parental support and expectation for sons and d ughters perception of women's position in family and society patriarchal attitudes and orientation sex preference for the first and the second child reasons of son preference and demographic characteristics. It was found that filipino women tended to prefer a daughter for the second child much more and to perceive women's position much higher than Chinese-Filipino women. Filipino mothers showed an equal level of support and expectations for sons and daughters much more than Chinese groups. For the reasons of son preference it was notable that Filipino women tended to rely on sons in old age much more than Filipino counterparts. Based on the findings of this study three factors were found strong enough to drawour attention. Daughter preference high position of women and equal support for sons and daughters appeared to be closely related in a meaningful way. Future studies need to focus on the relationships among three factors in depth Three factors suggest some important direction tha a strong son preference country like Korea need to head forward in a near future.

The purpose of this study was to examine dietary frequencies among Korean American adolescents in California, including the correlation of acculturation and parental dietary Consumption. This study was drawn from cross-sectional telephone surveys based on data from a larger study of Korean Americans in California using random sampling of residential phone listings. A total of 494 Korean American adolescents, ages 12 through 17, in California were collected with dietary frequencies and acculturation and one parents' demographic and dietary consumption information. Three-quarters of adolescents were classified as 'more acculturated group' into the U.S. society with a lower preference to Korean foods, frequent snacking, and lower consumptions of rice and kimchi. Other quarter of adolescents was classified as 'less acculturated group'. However, the most frequent food items by both groups were rice and kimchi. Fruit and vegetable consumption was associated between adolescents and parents in both groups, but rice and kimchi were associated only among the more-acculturated group. In conclusion, dietary frequencies of Korean American adolescents were influenced by acculturation and parental dietary consumption. These findings should inform future epidemiological researches as well as efforts to enhance the diet of Koreans and other immigrants.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among maternal behavior, their children's social competence and the variables related to maternal employment. The subjects were 245 4th-6th grade elementary school children and their working-mother. Park, and Lee(1990)'s KMBI and Pease et al.(1979)'s ISCS were used to measure maternal child-rearing behavior and children's social competence respectively. The major findings were as follows : 1. The significant differences in children's social competence were found according to mother's satisfaction with job and preference to job, the degree of father's support, birth order, income level, and father's educational level. 2. The significant differences in mother's child-rearing behavior were found according to mother's preference to job and the motivation of employment, the degree of father's practical support, and parental educational level. 3. Through the path analysis, maternal employment variables related directly or indirectly to each factor of social competence were identified.
With the enlargement of school meals, the lunch program has played an important role in educating young students about good eating habits and food Preferences. The objective of this study was to investigate the awareness and preference of vegetables and to provide preliminary data required for framing a menu of school meals to help students maintain good food preference and eating habits with a balanced food diet. A survey was conducted from 25th October to 27th November, 2004 with 873 elementary school students (M: 474, F:399) in the 4th, 5th, or 6th grade of 6 schools in Daegu and Gyeong sang but do (Yongchon, Gumi, Pohang). Satisfaction for the school meal was rated by $52\%$ of the students and 'rice and soup' was the favorite meal type. Eating habits of students were not influenced by the employment status of their mothers. Only $11.2\%$ of students selected vegetable as their favorite food. Marsh mallow, taro stem, green bean sprouts, crown daisy and broccoli showed very low awareness and were selected as the least favorite vegetables. The most important criteria of preference were the taste and eating experience of the vegetables. The most preferred cooking method of the vegetables was tchigae which is a simple stew. Recognition of frequency for daily eating vegetables significantly affected the real intake of vegetables for everyday meals and the preference of vegetables also significantly affected the vegetable intake from the school meals. Compared to the school dietitian, mothers showed a greater frequency in being selecting as an educator of nutritional information. The above results indicated the need to improve the level of students' understanding of the importance of vegetables in the daily diet with parental education and publicity.
