Injury has now replaced disease as the biggest single cause of death in children after their first birthday. Each day child dies from preventable, unintentional injury and the medical cost of these injury is increasing remarkably. It is necessary to develope injury prevention models to explain, predict, manage, evaluate and analyze the information about accident. The purpose of this paper is, firstly, to investigate parent's actions regarding safety measures at home and secondly, to identify the influencing factors of parents' safety behaviors. The selection of such factors is guided by the theoretical framework of the Pender's Health Promotion Model. Method ; The questionnaire was developed on the basis of other investigations, through pilot testing, peer review, and review by field health workers. The questionnaire was completed by 231 mothers of young children. Data was collected between April and May 2002. Variable Use of three different domains of safety behavior, safety habits, supervision and perception of safety devices, were listed. Mothers were self reported on internal locus of control, mother & child relationships, and marital intimacy. Also the elements of the Health Promotion Model: perceived benefit, barrier, threat, and self-efficacy, were surveyed. Results & discussion The results indicate that most parents take considerable action to reduce household hazards. The constructs derived from the Model were statistically significant differences for a small part of the variables on parental behavior to reduce hazards in the home, such as age, education, economic status, self-efficacy, perceived benefit, internal locus of control. Future studies ought to include social influences, such as expectations, perceived norms, knowledge, and child-related variables, relevant to parental safety measures in their home.
Background: This study investigated the awareness and utilization of maternity protection and work-family balance support policies among dental hygienists in dental hospitals and clinics. Methods: We surveyed 200 dental hygienists. Twenty-two who did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded, leaving 178 participants for analysis. The self-administered 48-item questionnaire gathered information on demographics, workplace details, policy awareness, government knowledge, and suggestions for improvement. Results: Awareness of maternity and family support programs significantly differed with age, marital status, number of children, and clinical experience. Dental hygienists in general hospitals and university hospitals reported greater ease of utilizing these policies compared to those in dental clinics. Among the participants, 27.7% took pre- and post-maternity leave, 26.6% took parental leave, 16.9% had reduced working hours during pregnancy, 15.8% had reduced working hours during childhood, and 8.5% during family leave. To promote program uptake, participants suggested mandatory implementation across workplaces (68.4%), expanded support for substitute workers (48.6%), and increased education and promotion of government support (42.4%). Conclusion: While most dental hygienists were aware of the Maternity Protection and Work-Family Balance Assistance Policy, utilizing it proved challenging due to several factors. Organizational policies or practices may not fully implement this policy, while workplace culture could discourage its use. Unfair treatment and the lack of available substitutes further hindered access. To prevent career interruptions for dental hygienists due to pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, and family care, and to maintain career continuity, the dental community and government should establish a multifaceted social support system. This system should prioritize several key areas: strengthening policy promotion, fostering a family-friendly atmosphere, improving management and supervision of policy implementation and developing a robust support system for substitute personnel.

The purpose of this study is to identify what factors have impacts on the amount of YouTube viewing. In doing so, usage type, children's levels of self-control on viewing, parent's perception of media contents, and parental mediation style were investigated by age. The result of the study showed no significant differences of the amount of use by the different age groups. There were, however, significant differences in terms of subscription status(non subscription based vs. subscription-based viewing), level of self-control, perception of content, and parent's mediations (technology, supervision, and guidance). Given the amount of YouTube use, the subscription status and parent's supervision were significantly influential factors for the age group of 3-4 years old. For the age group of 5-6, subscription status, levels of self-control, and mediation of parent's supervision and guidance were influential factors. For the age of 7-9, subscription status, the level of self control, and premium service were significantly influential. Finding similarities and differences in meaningful variables by age group suggests that different strategies should be used to reduce the amount of children's YouTube use. In addition, it raises the need for a more detailed classification of children's YouTube usage methods, which have not been addressed so far, and the need for research on the influence of these methods.
This study was carried out to provide information on the related factors for child obesity through investigation of children aged 6-12. Data was obtained on family history, dietary habits and physical examinations. Children were classified into normal(98 persons) and obese (108 persons) groups using combinations of the height f3r age, weight fir age, and weight fir height standards used by the World Health Organization. Children's height, weight and BMI showed significant differences between groups except children aged 8 for height. Birth weight, breast feeding and unbalanced diet were not associated with obesity. Overeating was a risk factor in the obese group(Odd ratio : 3.417, 95% CI 1.879-6.212). Taking nutrition pills was correlated to obesity. Odd ratio for taking nutrition pills was 0.109(95% CI : 0.024-0.492) between normal and obese group. Number of brothers didn't have any correlation to obesity. Obesity was not correlated to mother's education level or employmental status. As the result of this study, children's obesity was related to overeating and taking nutrition pills. Therefore, these results suggest that systematic dietary education and continuous parental supervision are necessary to avoid child obesity. (Korean J Nutrition 31(7) : 1158-1164, 1998)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of young children's temperament, emotional intelligence, social behavior and mother's personality traits, and management strategy of peer relations on peer acceptance. Subjects were 412 5-years-old children and their mothers in Busan. The children responded to the Peer Nomination Inventory to assess peer acceptance and their teachers completed the EAS(Emotionality, Activity, Sociability), to assess the emotional intelligence and social behavior of the children. Mothers completed Eysenck Personality Questionnaire for personality traits and the Parental Involvement Checklist. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and simple and multiple regression analyses. The results showed that emotional intelligence of young children had a relatively significant effect on peer acceptance, followed by personality traits of mother's extraversion, the temperament of activity, and the management strategy of mediation-supervision. In conclusion, young children and their mother's variables have a complex, rather than simple, effect on peer acceptance of the children.

This research is conducted in order to analyze the student's academic performance at the secondary school level in Sindh province of Pakistan. The study was focused on the students who have passed the Matriculation level recently. The sample of size equal to 1097 secondary level students was randomly selected in a way that from each college roughly up to 150 students took part in the survey. The sample selection was further divided on gender (Male=448, Female=649) and Locale (Urban=456, Rural=641). A survey questionnaire was circulated for data collection. The statistical analysis based on Pearson's Chi-Square and Correlation models were carried out using the collected data. The conclusion was drawn from results that strongly revealed that the student's academic achievement at high school level was highly associated to their parent's educational level and socio-economic background. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that the financial condition of the population must be enhanced by taking suitable measures. The affected students should be awarded adequate financial assistance or scholarships to face such hardships of their learning career. Free laptops, learning materials, books, and stationery should also be provided.
This study was conducted to investigate the differences in households, parental perception, and dietary behaviors of preschool children from kindergartens with environment-friendly food service (environment-friendly food service group; EFG) versus children from kindergartens with general food service (general food service group; GFG). We sought this basic information to examine the impact of environment-friendly agricultural products in preschool food services. Age, education level, and monthly family income of the EFG were significantly higher than the GFG. The frequency of purchasing environment-friendly agricultural products was significantly higher in the EFG than the GFG, with the most frequently purchased items in both groups being vegetables. The GFG had a significantly higher perception than the EFG in the superior quality of environment-friendly agricultural products; however, a greater proportion of the GFG than the EFG thought environment-friendly products were too expensive. The most frequent reason for purchasing environment-friendly agricultural products in both groups was safety. When purchasing environment-friendly agricultural products, the most important selection factor for the majority of both groups was the label certifying quality assurance. Both groups also considered price reduction as essential for promoting environment-friendly agricultural products. In regard to parental perceptions on food service in kindergarten, the EFG had a significantly higher satisfaction with the nutritional adequacy of the menu compared to the GFG. Both groups considered food safety and health as primary reasons for using environment-friendly foods in the preschool food service, with a greater proportion of the EFG than the GFG responding this way. There were significant differences between the EFG and GFG, as the main satisfaction from using environment-friendly foods in the EFG was safety, freshness, and good hygiene, whereas the main satisfaction in the GFG was a good food service menu, freshness and good hygiene. Dietary behaviors of preschool children in the EFG were also significantly superior to the GFG. Thus, environment-friendly agricultural products have positive effects on the dietary behaviors of preschool children and should be increased in the preschool food service. Lowering prices and a strict supervision of quality assurance is also necessary to promote consumption of environment-friendly food materials.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and correlates of sexual intercourse among junior secondary and high school students in Indonesia from the 2015 Global School-based Health Survey (GSHS). Methods: The survey was conducted among 11 110 students from 75 schools in Indonesia using a self-administered questionnaire. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to explore associations between sexual intercourse and socio-demographic variables, substance use, mental distress, and protective factors. Results: Overall, 5.3% of students reported having ever had sex (6.9% of boys and 3.8% of girls). Of students who engaged in sexual intercourse, 72.7% of boys and 90.3% of girls had an early sexual debut (before reaching the age of 15) and around 60% had multiple sex partners. Sexual intercourse was associated with gender, school grade, smoking, alcohol consumption, drug use, suicidal ideation, truancy, peer support, and parental supervision. Conclusions: These findings indicate a pressing need to develop more comprehensive sexual health education in the national curriculum. An effective strategy should also address other risky behaviours.
The purpose of this study was to raise validity of the result through using national data, to analyze the effect of children's smartphone addiction on aggression and moderating effect of parenting styles on the relationship between children's smartphone addiction and aggression. The data were obtained from 4th waves of KCYPS(Korean Children Youth Panel Study), and 1,686 4th graders in elementary schools who have smartphone were analysed. To achieve the purpose, this study executed frequency analysis, descriptive statistic, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis through SPSS 21.0. The results of this study are as follows: First, the higher children's smartphone addiction level, the higher children's aggression goes. Second, parents' supervision, affection, neglect have moderating effects on the relationship between children's smartphone addiction and aggression which means parenting styles could reduce children's aggression despite serious smartphone addiction. Based on these results, this study suggests that the combination of preventive discipline of smartphone addiction and parental education program is needed to reduce children's aggression which is main factor of bullying. In addition, this study suggests the establishment of special arrangement such as 'shut down' for smartphone addiction prevention.
