Rate constants at various temperatures and activation parameters are reported for solvolyses of acyl chlorides (RCOCl), with R = Me, Et, i-Pr, t-Bu, cyclopentylmethyl, benzyl, thiophenylmethyl, 2-phenylethyl, diphenylmethyl, and phenylthiomethyl in 100% ethanol, 100% 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE), 80% v/v ethanol/ water and 97% w/w TFE/water. Additional rate constants for solvolyses with R = Me, t-Bu, and $PhCH_2$ are reported for TFE/water and TFE/ethanol mixtures, and for solvolyses with R = t-Bu, and PhCH2 are reported for 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropan-2-ol/water mixtures, as well as selected kinetic solvent isotope effects (MeOH/MeOD and TFE). Taft plots show that electron withdrawing groups (EWG) decrease reactivity significantly in TFE, but increase reactivity slightly in ethanol. Correlation of solvent effects using the extended Grunwald-Winstein (GW) equation shows an increasing sensitivity to solvent nucleophilicity for EWG. The effect of solvent stoichiometry in assumed third order reactions is evaluated for TFE/ethanol mixtures, which do not fit well in GW plots for R = Me, and t-Bu, and it is proposed that one molecule of TFE may have a specific role as electrophile; in contrast, reactions of substrates containing an EWG can be explained by third order reactions in which one molecule of solvent (ethanol or TFE) acts as a nucleophile, and a molecule of ethanol acts as a general base catalyst. Isokinetic relationships are also investigated.
A 1/15-scale CREARE experiment, which simulates the thermal-hydraulic behavior in the reactor pressure vessel of a PWR during a hypothetical Loss Of Coolant Accident, has been analyzed using CATHARE code for the associated model assessment to represent the phenomenon. The key parameters examined in the CREARE experiment were known as ECC water injection rate. ECC water subcooling, system pressure, and steam flow rate coming out from the core bottom. The present CATHARE simulation, however, has been mainly focused on qualitative analysis of a countercurrent flow in the downcomer. The discrepancy of the simulation results with the experimental data is considered arising primarily from an inadequate numerical representation as well as an interfacial friction model. Accordingly it is suggested from the sensitivity studies that either multidimensional approach or further examination of momentum equations at a junction near a volume element in CATHARE be necessary in order to represent the phenomenon more realistically.
Backgrounds and Objectives: In the length-dependent axonal polyneuropathy like diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN), the distal part of the longer axons are affected earlier. In cases of minimal distal axonal changes, nerve conduction studies (NCS) are frequently normal. If sural nerve is affected in the early stage of DPN, supportive parameters to detect the early axonal degeneration may be helpful. We investigated whether the sural/ulnar SNAP amplitude ratio (SUAR) may be a more sensitive indicator than sural amplitude alone in the diagnosis of early diabetic polyneuropathy. Methods: We analyzed medical records and electrophysiological studies of 141 patients with DM and 30 healthy subjects. The patients with early stage of DPN were defined as those having symptoms of neuropathy and normal NCS findings among the patients with DM. We compared SUAR between 57 patients with early stage of DPN and 71 agematched control subjects. Results: Fifty seven patients had an average SUAR of 0.8, compared to that of 1.1 in the 71 normal controls. The SUAR of less than 0.9 was supplementary predictor of axonal polyneuropathy, with the best balance of sensitivity and specificity (70%). The SUAR did not vary significantly with age, height or duration of DM. Conclusions: We conclude that the SUAR is a useful electrodiagnostic indicator to detect early stage of DPN.

The implementation of a BTS(Base station Transceiver) for WLL system using W-CDMA(Wideband-Code Division Multiple Access) method is presented in this paper. It consists of three boards; receiver, transmitter and RF controller. Some RF parameters are considered and simulated by the RF simulation S/W using commercial and customized components specifications. The implemented transceiver of 5 MHz RF channel bandwidth satisfies the system requirements of a transceiver such as dynamic range, sensitivity in the receiver and spurious emission suppression in the transmitter. At the receiver, the experimental measurement showed 2.86 dB of NF and 60 dB above of dynamic range in AGC(Automatic Gain Control) locking. At the transmitter, the -49.46 dBc of spurious emission suppression is attained when the output power of the transmitter is 34.3 dBm. These results are good enough to meet to standard performance specifications.

In this paper, we developed an intelligent and wideband RF-receiver module to represent a high dynamic range and good linearity characteristics up to 650MHz-2700MHz frequency band. and implemented an intelligent digital-RF- distorted signal measuring system for the RF distortion (intermodulation) signals. Broadband RF-receive module was designed to represent the optimized linear parameters of the receiver to meet the low noise and wide dynamic range. The designed intelligent digital-distortion(intermodulation) signal measument system measured by applying the 1MHz IF of third intermodulation signal of DUT and Measured data was recorded by program on the PC monitor with GUI interface. By variable up to 650MHz-2700MHz measured data showed up to -127.8dBc to -138dBc of the distortion (intermodulation) signal. And developed intelligent digital- distortion signal measurement system can be used to measure intermodulation distortion signal of wireless system widely.
A novel method to characterize the topology of the early-universe intergalactic medium during the epoch of cosmic reionization is presented. The 21-cm radiation background from high redshift is analyzed through calculation of the 2-dimensional (2D) genus. The radiative transfer of hydrogen- ionizing photons and ionization-rate equations are calculated in a suite of numerical simulations under various input parameters. The 2D genus is calculated from the mock 21-cm images of high-redshift universe. We construct the 2D genus curve by varying the threshold differential brightness temperature, and compare this to the 2D genus curve of the underlying density field. We find that (1) the 2D genus curve reflects the evolutionary track of cosmic reionization and (2) the 2D genus curve can discriminate between certain reionization scenarios and thus indirectly probe the properties of radiation-sources. Choosing the right beam shape of a radio antenna is found crucial for this analysis. Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is found to be a suitable apparatus for this analysis in terms of sensitivity, even though some deterioration of the data for this purpose is unavoidable under the planned size of the antenna core.

Although the link between activity in the nuclei of galaxy and galactic mergers has been under scrutiny for several years, it is still unclear to what extent and for which populations of active galaxies merger-triggered activity is relevant. The environment of AGN allows an indirect probe of the past merger history and future merger probability of these systems, suffering less from sensitivity issues while extending to higher redshifts, compared to traditional morphological studies of AGN host galaxies. Here we present results from our investigation of the environment of radio selected sources out to redshift z=2. We employ the first data release J-band catalog from the new near-IR Infrared Medium-Deep Survey (IMS) and 1.4 GHz radio data from the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-cm (FIRST) survey and a deep dedicated VLA survey of the VIMOS field, covering a combined total of ~20 sq. degrees. Given the flux limit of the combined radio catalog (0.1 mJy), we probe a radio luminosity range of 10^36-10^44 erg/s. Using the second and fifth closest neighbor density parameters, we test whether active galaxies inhabit denser environments and study these overdensities in terms of both distance to the AGN and its luminosity. We find evidence for a sub-population of radio-selected AGN that resides in significantly overdense environments at small scales, although we do not find significant overdensities for the bulk of our sample. We do not recover any dependence between the AGN radio-luminosity and overdensities. We show that radio-AGN inhabiting the most underdense environments in the field have vigorous ongoing star formation. We interpret these results in terms of the triggering and fuelling mechanism of radio-AGN.

In radio communication technology, SDR(Software Defined Radio) technology is emerging as a trendy technology for future. SDR is expected to change existing radio systems including central hardware. SDR is equipment that wireless parameters (frequency, modulation, additional service, power level, receive sensitivity, etc.) are controlled by software. In the world, equipments using the new technology are spreading. Not only equipments being imported but also local manufacturers are making this equipment, developing software and offering upgraded service. In the future, as SDR spreads and users choose the service, diverse equipments will be developed through competition and individual development. This diversity of equipment and services will introduce problems in compatibility and interoperation issues. So the government will have to make technical standard for SDR service and will have to make theses standards available to users and manufacturers alike. Therefore I am investigating the elements that can be used to establish these standards.

With the advent of future mobile communication systems, the wireless transmission of the huge amount of multimedia data over the error-prone multipath fading channel has to overcome the inherent sensitivity to channel errors. To alleviate the effect of the channel errors, hosts of techniques based on the forward error correction(FEC) has been proposed at the cost of overhead rate. Among the FEC techniques, turbo code, whose performance has been shown to be very close to the Shannon limit, can be classified as a block-based error correction code. In this paper, considering the variable packet size of the multimedia data, we analyzed turbo codes employing the variable-sized interleaver. The effect of the various parameters on the BER performance is analyzed. We show that the turbo codes can be used as efficient error correction codes of multimedia data.

This paper introduces a partial discharge (PD) severity metric, S, based on the evaluation of time-sequence PD data capture and resulting Time-Sequence-Analysis Discharge (TSAD) level distributions. Basically based on an IEC60270 measurement technique, each PD event is time stamped and the discharge level noted. By evaluating the time differences between a previous and subsequent discharge, a 3D plot of time-sequence activity and discharge levels can be produced. From these parameters a measurement of severity, which takes into account dynamic or instantaneous variations in both the time of occurrence and the level of discharge, rather than using standard repetition rate techniques, can be formulated. The idea is to provide a measure of the severity of PD activity for potentially measuring the state of insulation within an item of plant. This severity measure is evaluated for a simple point-plane geometry in $SF_{6}$ as a function of gap distance and applied high voltage. The results show that as the partial discharge activity increases, the severity measure also increases. The importance of future investigations, quantifications and evaluations of the robustness, sensitivity and importance of such a severity measurement, as well as comparing it with typical repetition rate assessment techniques, and other monitoring techniques, are also very briefly discussed.
