  • The robust self-tuning controller is designed which is guaranteed the asymptotic regulation and tracking in the presence of a bounded parameter perturbation. The global stability in the presence of a finite noise and disturbance is ensured. The controller has a error driven structure, and involves the common model of a disturbance and reference input in the internal model. The adaptive system tunes the controller parameters such that the quadratic performance index which involves a weighting factor is optimized.

  • In this paper, a new algorithm for noninteracting control system design is proposed and applied to ship propulsion system control. For example, if a ship diesel engine is operated by consolidated control with controllable pitch propeller (CPP), the minimum fuel consumption is achieved satisfying the demanded ship speed. For this, it is necessary that the ship is operated on the ideal operating line which satisfies the minimum fuel consumption, and the both pitch angle of CPP and throttle valve angle are controlled simultaneously. In this context of view, this paper gives a controller design method for a ship propulsion system with CPP based on noninteracting control theory. Where, linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach is introduced for the control system design to satisfy the given $H_{\infty}$, constraint in the presence of physical parameter perturbation and disturbance input. To the end, the validity and applicability of this approach are illustrated by the simulation in the all operating ranges.

  • In this paper a robust stabilization problem is discussed for plant with both time-varying parameter perturbations and unstructured uncertainty. It is shown that, a robust L$_{2}$-stabilizing controller can be obtained by solving an H$_{\infty}$ standard problem with a scaling parameter. Using an H$_{\infty}$ design method, a robust L$_{2}$-stabilizing controller is derived. Finally, a numerical example is given.n.

  • This paper is concerned with robust stabilization of single input or single output systems. Based on the region of non-destabilizing perturbations some approaches to design which allow the given of structured perturbation of plant parameters and their gradient optimization are given. These algorithms iteratively enlarge the stability hypershere in plant parameter space and can be used to design a controller to stabilize a plant subject to given ranges of parameter excursions.

  • High-order perturbation solutions have been obtained for the simple physical model describing the liquid pool spreading with a continuous spill, and these are shown to improve over first-order perturbation solutions. The non-dimensional governing equations for the model are derived to obtain more general solutions. Non-dimensional parameters are sought as the governing parameters for the non-dimensional equations, and the non-dimensional evaporation rate is used as the perturbation parameter. The results show that the high-order solutions exhibit an improvement over the first-order solutions with respect to the pool volume as well as the spreading radius. In addition, as the order of the perturbation solutions increases, the difference between the numerical solutions and the perturbation solutions is significantly reduced. Finally, it is revealed that the third-order solutions are reasonable because they almost agree with the numerical solutions.

  • This paper proposes a robust control method using Universal Learning Network(U.L.N.) and second order derivatives of U.L.N.. Robust control considered here is defined as follows. Even if external input (equal to reference input in this paper) to the system at control stage changes awfully from that at learning stage, the system can be controlled so as to maintain a good performance. In order to realize such a robust control, a new term concerning the perturbation is added to a usual criterion function. And parameter variables are adjusted so as to minimize the above mentioned criterion function using the second order derivative of the criterion function with respect to the parameters.

  • The paper presents an intelligent time series model to predict uncertain electricity market price in the deregulated industry environment. Since the price of electricity in a deregulated market is very volatile, it is difficult to estimate an accurate market price using historically observed data. The parameter of an intelligent time series model is obtained based on the simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA). The SPSA is flexible to use in high dimensional systems. Since prediction models have their modeling error, an error compensator is developed as compensation. The SPSA based intelligent model is applied to predict the electricity market price in the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland (PJM) electricity market.

  • The problem of estimating the dynamic response of a distributed parameter system excited by a moving vehicle with random initial velocity and random vehicle body mass is investigated. By adopting the Galerkin's method and modal analysis, a set of approximate governing equations of motion possessing time-dependent uncertain coefficients and forcing function is obtained, and then the dynamic response of the coupled system can be calculated in deterministic sense. The statistical characteristics of the responses of the system are computed by using improved perturbation approach with respect to mean value. This method is simple and useful to gather the stochastic structural response due to the vehicle-passenger-bridge interaction. Furthermore, some of the statistical numerical results calculated from the perturbation technique are checked by Monte Carlo simulation.

  • For a class of singularly perturbed uncertain system, an output feedback control law is designed. The controller structure is designed based on the uncertain reduced-order system, and the controller parameters are determined by information on the reduced-order and full-order systems. It has been shown that the reduces-order system with the designed controller possesses a stability property(specifically, a global uniform attractivity). Furthermore, the stability property of this control scheme is robust with respect to singular perturbation ; i.e., the full-order system, subject to the same controller, possesses the global uniform attractivity, provided the singular perturbation parameter $\mu<\mu^{*}$, where a threshold value $\mu^{*}$ can be computed from the information available on the full-order system.

  • A general formulation of the design optimization problem with the random parameters is presented here. The formulation is based on the stochastic finite element second-order perturbation method ; it takes into full account of the stress and displacement constraints together with the rates of change of the random variables. A method of direct differentiation for calculating the sensitivity coefficients in regard to the governing equation and the second-order perturbed equation is derived. A gradient-based nonlinear programming technique is used to solve the problem. The numerical results are specifically noted, where the stiffness parameter and external load are treated as random variables.
