  • This paper deals with a robust speed control problem of a vertical one-link manipulator in the presence of parameter uncertainties and unknown input disturbance. Uncertain load weight causes an additional sinusoidal disturbance in the rotation of the link. In order to improve the robustness against parameter uncertainties and external input disturbances, this paper employs an internal model-based disturbance observer approach. Comparative computer simulations are performed to test the performance of the proposed controller. The simulation results show the enhanced performance of the proposed method.

  • It is expected that the change of industrial structure of Knowledge based economy, and service based economy would affect on economic life of physically-challenged person with no exceptions. There have been some former studies which have been misunderstood the employment of disabled due to the declining employment of the disabled and prejudice to the disabled based on biased perspective and public opinion. This study have analyzed the employment conditions of the ordinary workers and disabled workers out of those prejudices and biased opinions. Wage, economic activity ratio, age, educational background and industry those 5 parameters are brought for analyzing the two comparison group. Each parameter have compared based on the statistical data of ordinary workers and disabled workers for past 7 years. Weight between each parameter have been drawn by collecting the experts' opinion using AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process), and utility of employment of two comparison groups have been estimated through progress inclination of each parameter. Through the estimated outcome, present condition and controversial issues and way of improvement of domestic employment of ordinary workers and the disabled is mentioned.

  • Research into hyper parameter optimization (HPO) has recently revived with interest in models containing many hyper parameters, such as deep neural networks. In this paper, we introduce the most widely used HPO methods, such as grid search, random search, and Bayesian optimization, and investigate their characteristics through experiments. The MNIST data set is used to compare results in experiments to find the best method that can be used to achieve higher accuracy in a relatively short time simulation. The learning rate and weight decay have been chosen for this experiment because these are the commonly used parameters in this kind of experiment.

  • Length-weight relationships were estimated for 11 fish species caught in Baekya Island, Korea. Samples were caught in depths of <15 m by fish pots between November 2008 and July 2009. The sampling gear, fish pots, is a widely used as commercial fishing gear in shallow waters of the region. The most abundant families were Hexagrammidae (20.7%), Cottidae (18.5%), Tetraodontidae (14.8%) and Scorpaenidae (13.3%). Estimates for parameter b of the length-weight relationship ($W=aL^b$) ranged between 2.454 and 3.361.

  • Specific leaf weight (SLW), defined as the mass of tissue per unit leaf area has been found to be an important physiological parameter as it indicates the relative thickness of leaves. Greater SLW provides more photosynthetic potential per unit area of leaf and hence it is frequently been considered as correlated with photosynthesis in several plant species. Collections of 165 mulberry (Morus sp.) germplasm accessions, both Indian and exotic in origin were evaluated for their variability with respect to SLW. The mean specific leaf weight ranged from 35.3 to $72.3 g/m^{-2}$. The distribution of SLW was found to be normal. High heritability (97.08%) and a small difference between genotypic and phenotypic variance demonstrates the genetic control over SLW. Significant heterotic effect with respect to SLW was observed in crosses when parents with high and low SLW were chosen.

  • In Gen-2 Q-algorithm, the values of weight C, which is the parameter for incrementing or decrementing the slot-count size, are not defined in the standard. In this case, if the reader selects an inappropriate weight, there are a lot of empty or collided slots. As a result, the performance will be degraded because the frame size does not converge to the optimal point quickly during the query round. In this paper, we analyze how the performances of Gen-2 Q-algorithm will be affected by the weight value.

  • Background: This study was designed to determine the distance from skin to lumbar epidural space in obstetric parturients and whether weight, height, or PI (ponderal index, $kg/m^2$) might influence the epidural depth. Methods: 71 obstetric patients undergoing elective cesarean section during epidural anesthesia in L2-3 level were partitioned into groups according to their prepregnant BMI(body mass index), and in each group weight, height, PI, epidural depth were measured. Results: All patients were classified as underweight(n=18), normal(n=49), overweight(n=4) and no one was partitioned into obese group. the distance from skin to lumbar epidural space was found to be 3.7 cm(underweight), 4.1 cm(normal), 4.7 cm(over weight) and total mean distance was found to be 4.0 cm. The epidural depth had correlation with weight and height in underweight, and weight and PI in normal, but had no correlation with any measurements in overweight group. Conclusion: These results suggest body weight may be a useful parameter for predicting the distance from skin to lumbar epidural space in underweight and normal weight obstetric parturients.

  • The Relative weight index is an index for evaluating nutritional condition of fish by calculating a ratio of observed weight to standard weight. The purpose of this study is estimating standard Length-Weight relationships (standard LWRs) to calculate standard weight for application of relative weight index and analyze frequency distribution of relative weight index of 10 freshwater fish in the South Korea. The standard LWRs for each species was calculated by the Length-Weight data sets from 798 times of captures at 141 sites. The correlation of determination (r2) for all species was over 0.9 and values of parameter b were within the expected range according to Froese (2006). We calculated in increments of 10 from 10 to 90 percentile of relative weight index for each species, and it could be used as a standard for quantitative assessment of nutritional condition of freshwater fish.

  • Using the genetic algorithm, the optimal-design technique of the Nielsen arch bridge was proposed in this paper. The design parameters were the arch-rise ratio and the steel weight ratio of the Nielsen arch bridge, and optimal-design techniques were utilized to analyze the behavior of the bridge. The optimal parameter values were determined for the estimated optimal level. The parameter determination requires the standardization of the safety, utility, and economic concepts as the critical factors of a structure. For this, a genetic algorithm was used, whose global-optimal-solution search ability is superior to the optimization technique, and whose object function in the optimal design is the total weight of the structure. The constraints for the optimization were displacement, internal stress, and time and space. The structural analysis was a combination of the small displacement theory and the genetic algorithm, and the runtime was reduced for parallel processing. The optimal-design technique that was developed in this study was employed and deduced using the optimal arch-rise ratio, steel weight ratio, and optimal-design domain. The optimal-design technique was presented so it could be applied in the industry.
