Objectives: The aim of this case report is to present the effects of Korean medicine treatment in a patient with left facial paraesthesia, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, and post-traumatic neck pain induced by cerebral infarction. Methods: A 26-year-old male patient was treated with Cheongpa-Jeon H, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture (Shinbaro2), and Chuna Therapy for 24 days of hospitalization. Left facial paraesthesia, TMJ pain, and post-traumatic neck pain were assessed with a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and EuroQoL-5 Dimension (EQ-5D). Post-traumatic neck pain was assessed using the Neck Disability Index (NDI). Results: After 24 days of treatment, the patient's left facial paraesthesia and left arm tingling sensation were relieved from NRS 6 to NRS 2. Left TMJ pain was reduced from NRS 5 to NRS 2. The EQ-5D score increased from 0.138 to 0.73. The NDI score decreased from 71.11 to 37.78. Conclusion: These results show that left facial paraesthesia, TMJ pain, and post-traumatic neck pain can be relieved with Korean medicine treatment. However, further well-designed studies are required to confirm these findings.

The purpose of this study was to show the effect of Umnungchon and Hyolhae about acupuncture side effects. 6 cases of patients treated in Hankyoreh Oriental madical clinic of Daejeon from Dec 1 2005 to Apr 15 2006 were survey. The side effect of acupunctur therapy is called neddling-shock(Chim-hun) and it happ. ened at to nervers, hungry, fatigue patient's condition. The side effect of acupuncture is paraesthesia, hypersensitivity, hematoma etc. But it was not mentioned in Oriental medical literature written in Chinese. I used Umlungchon and heulhe for The side effect of acupuncture and This point were effective treatment of paraesthesia, hypersensitivity, hematoma by acupuncture.

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of TKM to both lower extremities weakness after parturition who is diagnosed as Subacute inflammatory demyelinating peripheral neuropathy. Methods : The patient was a 31-year-old woman who couldn't walk at all by herself because of both lower extremities weakness after parturition. The patient was demonstrated as shin-yang-heo, and treated by Pal-mi-ji-hwang-hwan, Acupuncture treatment of Shin-jeong-gyeok, and Moxa treatment of Gwan-won. And the progress of symtoms was evaluated by observation of her walking status, cheking the change of VAS, and inspecting the DITI. Results : The patient could walk by herself. The feeling of both lower extremities weakness improved to VAS 2. The paraesthesia of the soles of feet improved to VAS 4. And the DITI state slightly got better. Conclusion : TKM is expected to have positive effect on puerperium disease especially the symptoms of pain, weakness, paraesthesia, etc.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence of intra- and postoperative complications of orthognathic surgery and their relevance. Materials and Methods: The clinical records and X-rays of 418 patients who underwent surgery at Chosun University Dental Hospital, Korea, over a 12-year period between 1998 and 2009 were examined. Results: The followings are some of the most common complications which happened during the oper-ations: Inadequate osteotomy in 25 cases, excessive bleeding in 11 cases, nerve injuries in 6 cases, soft tis-sue injuries in 8 cases, and tooth injury, and insertion of foreign bodies in 4 cases respectively. The most frequent complications which happened after surgery are shown below. Paraesthesia in 262 cases, dyspnea in 78 cases, pain in cervical region in 49 cases, open bite in 14 cases, plus 62 cases where other complications occurred. Despite the great variety of complications, severe life threatening complication frequency seems to be extremely low. Conclusion: Orthognathic surgery appears to be a relatively safe procedure but complications related to orthognathic surgery do still occur. Accurate evaluation and precise surgery are needed to minimize complications.

Single-port video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) has slowly established itself as an alternate surgical approach for the treatment of an increasingly wide range of thoracic conditions. The potential benefits of fewer surgical incisions, better cosmesis, and less postoperative pain and paraesthesia have led to the technique's popularity worldwide. The limited single small incision through which the surgeon has to operate poses challenges that are slowly being addressed by improvements in instrument design. Of note, instruments and video-camera systems that are narrower and angulated have made single-port VATS major lung resection easier to perform and learn. In the future, we may see the development of subcostal or embryonic natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery access, evolution in anaesthesia strategies, and cross-discipline imaging-assisted lesion localization for single-port VATS procedures.

A Solitary plasmacytoma of bone[SPB] is a rare disease. This paper reports a case of SPB with massive aggregation of histiocytes known as pseudo-Gaucher cells. A 40-year-old male presented with progressive paraparesis and paraesthesia. The Magnetic Resornance Image[MRI] revealed a tumor mass in the thoracic spine that occupied the three colum. The tumor invaded the epidural space of T6 vertebra with compression of the spinal cord. There were no laboratory abnormalities. It was gross totally resected and his neurological symptoms improved. The microscopic examination revealed a plasmacytoma with massive aggregation of histiocytes. Futher neuroradiological studies were carried out and no other lesions were detected.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment on the patients suffered from glossitis.Methods : Total five Korean patients suffering from glossitis, 60 and 37 years old male patients, 61, 71 and 49 years old female patients were participated. Each patient received acupuncture treatment(heart hangyeok) twice to five times in same part of the body.Results : We attained meaningful results which show recovery from pustules, ulcers, redness and swelling in visual symptoms and the relief of acute and chronic pain, recovery from paraesthesia, and dysgeusia in subjective symptoms.Conclusions : In this study, acupuncture treatment(heart hangyeok) was effectively controlled inflammation status of glossitis.

A 57-year-old male suffered from tingling and paraesthesia on radial side of right hand. We carried out exploration, the process being done, a radial artery passing between the two branches of bifurcated superficial radial nerve was found by accident. Then we performed dissection of the radial artrery a little more distally. It was passing above the extensors of thumb to anstomical snuff box. We treated it with ligating the radial artery, which was done a little above the bifurcated site of superficial radial nerve after angiography of upper extremity. While we were following this procedure, we noticed that symptoms had improved a lot. To our knowlege, neuropathy, by itself of superficial radial nerve by the radial artery with anatomical variation has never been reported and therefore we report this case.

Foot drop due to lumbar disc herniation is perceived to be an indication for surgery. A 44-year-old male presented with motor deficit in left ankle dorsiflexion along with radiating pain and paraesthesia. Motion Style Acupuncture Therapy (MSAT) was administered on the left side every other day. Acupuncture and Chuna were performed daily. Herbal medicine was taken 3 times a day. His symptoms rapidly improved throughout treatment, verified by decreased Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), increased 5-level EuroQol-5 Dimension (EQ-5D-5L) scores, and improved motor grades. We suggest that a combination of MSAT with traditional Korean medicine could be a favorable option for foot drop in LDH patients in terms of rapid pain reduction and the improvement of quality of life.
