In this paper, the dual parabolic cylindrical reflector systems are analyzed as the reflector system for the CATR(Compact Antenna Test Range) facility. The near-field at the test zone of the CATR is calculated by using the PO(Physical Optics) approximation. The CATR has to provide an uniform plane wave with the minimum amplitude and phase ripple and the low cross polarization. Therefore, in this paper, the near-field pattern are calculated, and the ripple and taper of the field and the cross polarization are investigated with the position of the subreflector and the test region. It is confirmed that the analysis results can be used for the design of the CATR with the dual parabolic cylindrical reflector.

This paper proposes an aircraft-installed compact offset-parabolic-reflector antenna for the spinning direction-finding applications. The feeder of the reflector antenna is a LPDA antenna that has the ultra-wideband characteristics and the $45^{\circ}$ slant linear polarization. The reflector is designed to be slanted by $5^{\circ}$ in the elevation and to be small in size on the basis of the reference parabolic shape for the purpose of the high gain and mounting on the underside of aircraft fuselage. Over the ultra-wideband 20:1 bandwidth from S to Ka band, the measured average gain of the proposed antenna is 27.97 dBi, and the average half-power beam width is $4.55^{\circ}$ in the azimuth and $4.3^{\circ}$ in the elevation which is the pencil-beam radiation pattern. All the measured data are similar to the simulation results. The designed compact offset-parabolic-reflector antenna that is installed in the limited area has the ultra-wideband and high-gain characteristics. We expect that the newly designed antenna can be applied to the spinning direction-finding antenna system installed in an aircraft.
SOTM is a device for the satellite communication on the move. Many studies are conducted on microstrip, waveguide and array antenna for the low profile of the SOTM's antenna. But those antennas have a problem that is difficult to adjust the polarization, and for that reason we have studied the parabolic antenna structure. The general form of parabolic reflector structure is circular, but we used cut-off shape reflector by cutting the upper and lower reflector for low profile antenna. Accordingly, this results in the decrease of reflector area which causes reduced gain and G/T ratio. In order to solve this problem, we have transformed and designed the sub reflector for improving the efficiency and gain of the cut- off shape parabolic antenna.
The intermediate range of temperatures($100{\sim}300^{\circ}C$) which can be achieved with CPCs(Compound Parabolic Concentrators) without tracking device provides both economic and thermal advantages for solar collector design. The present paper summarizes critical design considerations for CPC with cylindrical absorber and its optical performance using ray tracing program. Concentration ratios vary as acceptance half angle, ratio of reflector height to aperture width and ratio of reflector area to aperture area. This effects showed that the concentration ratio was increased as acceptance angle but optimum ratio of reflector height to aperture width existed at critical value. As a result of ray tracing, solar ray losses was maximized at acceptance half angle and this problem was solved by increasing absorber tube diameter. The concentrating flux distribution on the absorber surface was uniform but peak flux existed.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to summarize the historical aspects of parabolic reflector moxa and to suggest the applications of light moxibustion in Korean medicine. Results : Getting a fire by parabolic reflector(concave mirror) is well known because of the Olympic torch lighted with a solar reflector in Greece. From anecdotes or myths for Diocles and Archimedes(third century B.C.) a long history has been chronicled in books and films in western culture. However, it has another history in Asian countries since 2,000 years ago. Some reflectors had a tiny size with 6.5 to 10 cm in diameter, 4 mm to 1 cm thickness, and these mobile handheld devices could make us guess that they have been used for multiple purposes. Bronze reflectors were described in Dongeui-bogam, and excavated from the ancient remains of the Shilla and Koryo dynasties. This common firing device was used as a moxibustion device, one of the acupuncture and moxibustion modalities in traditional Korean medicine. Conclusions : Reflector moxa has been used as a light moxibustion to deliver heat energy to acupuncture points, muscles, and skin along meridians. We present a plausible proposal to improve other phototherapy modalities including reflector moxa in Korean medicine practice.

The proposed directional pencil beam antenna consists of a waveguide feeder with bended elliptical conductor plate feed and a parabolic curved reflector. Two rectangular apertures located at the broad wall near the end of the feed waveguide inserted from behind the reflector are located at the focus of the reflector and emit electromagnetic energy with bended elliptical conductor plate. This plate is designed to reflect electromagnetic energy primarily and to face the main reflector. The two rectangular apertures located at the waveguide end have inwardly protruding tabs for impedance matching of the antenna system, the shape of the tabs is a truncated oval. The proposed parabolic reflector antenna has a diameter of 400 mm and a focal length of 134.23 mm. The antenna gain is 33.68 dBi at the center frequency of 16.5 GHz, the beam width is $3.3^{\circ}$ and the reflection loss is -15 dB. Using the HFSS-IE, simulation results are performed to validate the proposed antennas.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to compare the principles between moxibustion and the 'Intense pulsed light (IPL)' and to investigate the clinical application of the photo-moxa for the Korean medicine fields. Methods : The characteristics of moxibustion, IPL, parabolic reflector moxa and the dermatology surgical use of moxibustion were reviewed in the literature. Results : IPL is one type of light treatments that is employed by radiating the short-pulse wave, which is transformed from the light of high intensity. There has been used parabolic reflector in Asia for more than 2,000 years, and this hand-held device used for moxibustion in traditional medicine. Moxibustion is one of the treatment tools in Korean medicine using the heat energy. The fluence or energy density of IPL in clinical circumstances is similar to parabolic reflector moxa of moxibustion. IPL and parabolic reflector moxa shared same treatment principle employing the heat energy. Therefore IPL could apply for many indications in Korean medicine as a moxibustion tool and acupuncture. Conclusions: IPL may be plausible to be a fascinate method in phototherapy of Korean medicine.

For a parabolic reflector antenna, a simple method is presented for computing efficiently the average power pattern degradations caused by the surface roughness of the reflector and misalignments between the reflector and the feed. In this procedure, both nonuniform surface errors and nonuniform illuminations are employed. The assumptions to derive the expressions are that in each annular region of the antenna, the rms value of the surface roughness is known, and in a zone in a annular region, the phase error by misalignments is constant, and can be taken to its value at the center of the zone. Detailed parametric studies are performed with derived expressions to determine the effects of those errors and illumination tapers on parameters such as gain and sidelobe levels.
The current study presents experimental research on a parabolic trough collector with tube and cavity receivers. The primary concentrating parabolic reflector is designed for an aperture area of 2×2 m2 with mirror-polished stainless steel sheet reflectors. The cavity receiver consists of a compound parabolic secondary reflector and a copper tube. Both the conventional tube receiver and the cavity receiver tube are coated with black powder. The experiments are carried out to compare the efficiency of the cavity receiver with the tube receiver for fluid temperature rise, thermal efficiency, and overall losses. The experiments showed significantly higher fluid temperature rise and overall efficiency and lower thermal losses for the cavity receiver compared to the tube receiver within the parameters explored in this study.

This paper dealt with the condensing technology of an LED light source that uses a parabolic reflector to replace a searchlight equipped with a xenon lamp. A ray-tracing simulation was conducted to analyze the influence of the diameter of the reflector and the size of the light source on light condensing. The combination of a parabolic reflector with a diameter of 620 mm and a focal distance of 220 mm, and a 9 mm multi-chip package (MCP) with a luminous flux of 7,000 lm showed the narrowest beam angle. The luminous intensity at the center was measured at 7.7×106 cd. The distance between the light source and the point where the illuminance was 1 lx was calculated to be 2.8 km. The power consumption of the system was 95 W, which is only 9.5% of that of the 1 kW xenon searchlight, and the beam angle was 1.03°. In a site experiment, it was confirmed that the light ray reflected from the LED searchlight proceeds forward without any diffusion because of the narrow beam angle.
