Drilling is an indispensable process in manufacturing of the die and mould and the other mechanical parts which needs high dimensional and surface accuracy. In this paper, a new type of drilling method was proposed in order to improve both processing efficiency and accuracy. Specifically, the helical motion using ball end mill tools, instead of normal drilling method, was applied to perform an effective hole machining. In this paper, an theoretical background of the new type of drilling method was established, and the feasibility of the proposed theory was proved by experiments, where proposed drilling process in the paper gave a different machining specification than general method did.
Bulking phenomena and scum formation are common problem in suspended growth system like the activated sludge plants for wastewater treatment. Apart from wastewater composition, operating conditions, such as mechanical stress by insufficient oxygen supply, are often decisive for the occurrence of a bulking or scumming problem. There were the comparative aeration tanks in terms of sludge bulking caused by the difference of mechanical aeration facilities in the wastewater treatment plant of N paper mill company. In this study the cause of bulking was investigated through not only the biological isolation and identification but also a series of operational data consideration. On the basis of the investigation results for bulking cause, the operational criteria on dissolved oxygen concentration was derived to decrease the bulking problem.
The water fluidized bed heat exchanger was installed to recover heat from paper mill hood exhaust air containing lot of moisture and also fouling contaminants. The hood exhaust air flow rate was about $110,000m^3/hr$ at $70^{\circ}C$. The commercial scale field test apparatus has been operated for 3 months. As a result of operation, total heat recovered was 2,380,000 kcal/hr and proportion of the latent heat to total heat was 74%. The annual energy saving was estimated as 450 million won.

In this paper, The optimum design of a die shape has been carried out the FEM analysis of a pilger mill process considering various factors. The pilger mill forming process consists of a pair of rotating die which has appropriate surface shape. The important design parameters of the pilger mill are the feed rate and the profile of grooved die. Optimum design procedure was performed in order to investigated effects on the forming load and the deformed shape of material depending on the die radius profile. Profile of the die surface for the optimum design were suggested with the linear, the cosine and the quadratic curve considering a physical forming process. The surface of each die was modeled using the 3DAutoCAD and the analysis of pilger forming process was performed using the LS-DYNA3D. The optimum profile of the die shape for the pilger mill was determined to the quadratic profile. Since the analysis results provide that the model of the quadratic profile gives the lowest forming load and a proper deformed shape.

A diagnosis system that provides early warnings regarding machine malfunction is very important for rolling mill so as to avoid great losses resulting from unexpected shutdown of the production line. But it is very difficult to provide e8rly w, ul1ings in rolling mill. Because dynamics of rolling mill is non-linear. This paper shows a chaotic behaviour of vibration signal in rolling mill using embedding method. Phase plane and Poincare map, FFT and histogram of vibration signal in rolling mill are implemented by qualitative analysis and Fractal dimension, Lyapunov exponent are presented by quantitative analysis.
In the rapidly propagating Internet based electronic transaction environment. the importance of real time order confirmation has been more emphasized, In this paper, using data mining techniques, we develop intelligent operations decision model to allow real time order confirmation at the time the customer places an order with required delivery terms. Among various operation plannings used for order fulfillment. mill routing is the first interface decision point to link the order receiving at the marketing with the production planning for order fulfillment. Though linear programming based mathematical optimization techniques are mostly used for mill routing problems, some early orders should wait until sufficient orders are gathered for optimization. And that could effect longer order fulfillment lead-time, and prevent instant order confirmation of delivery terms. To cope with this problem, we provide the intelligent decision model to allow instant order based mill routing decisions. Data mining techniques of decision trees and neural networks. which are more popular in marketing and financial applications, are used to develop the model. Through diverse computational trials with the industrial data from the steel company. we have reported that the performance of the proposed approach is effective compared to the present heuristic only mill routing results. Various issues of data mining techniques application to the mill routing problems having linear programming characteristics are also discussed.

With the increased utilization of CAM programs, end-mill processing is most commonly used for machining and metal processing. In particular, hole or shaft machining has high assembly precision, which inevitably leads to high utilization of end mills. However, the analysis of quality characteristics according to the process conditions of end mills is not performed systematically at the site, causing poor quality and productivity. The most influential factor of quality is the runout of the end mill. In this paper, the number of turns of the end mill, number of tool blades, cutting direction, and artificial runout volume were determined to identify the correlation between the epicenter, cylindricality, and surface roughness. Two types of end mills, three levels of runout, three levels of rotational speed, and two cutting directions were considered and 36 rounds of hole processing were conducted. For the analysis of shape characteristics according to the set process variables, the experimental planning method was applied to the measured specimen and the processing characteristics were analyzed according to the runout of the end mill through correlation analysis.
The presence of slime in paper mills is practically universal. Many researches have been performed for many years to resolve the problem caused by the slime in pulp and paper mill. Many papers have been published to show the bacteria is a major cause of paper mill slime. Now that the recycling of the water has been increased and the regulations of a toxic chemical dosage have become more strengthen, the importance of the control of slime in pulp and paper mill recently has been more recognized. Therefore, to produce quality products at the lowest economic and environmental costs, a through study of the microbial ecology and the indentification of troublesome slime-forming bacteria is a quite necessary. The purpose of this paper is to indentify slime~forming bacteria isolated from the papermaking process. The samples were taken from four parts of making fine paper : machine chest, head box, wire part, white water tank. Machine chest showed the most numbers of bacteria, numbering $2.55{\times}10^7$. The different colony types were taken from the 105 dilution plate. Nine bacteria were identified u sing the Biolog system and the vitek system: 6 gram-negative bacteria, 3 gram-positive bacteria. They are Pseudomonas paucimobilis B., Staphylococcus sp., Acinetobacter calcoaceticus., Pseudomonas cepacia, Actinobaci1lus capsulatus, Acidovorax sp., Flavobacterium sp., and Staphylococcus auricularis in addition to one unidentified sp., Among them. Pseudomonas paucimobillis was found in all places where the samples were taken. And, each parts had the different predominant bacteria in it : Pseudomonas paucimobilis B. in machine chest, Acinetobactor calcoaceticus. in Wire Part and Staphylococcus sp. in head box.

This study was carried out to explore the availability of seedling pots made from paper mill sludge using red pepper species called Nokkwang. The seedling pots were made by several conditions such as different mixing ratios between sludge and old newspaper (ONP), sterilizing treatment and latex coating. After 30 day cultivation in a green house, the growth condition of the red peppers was evaluated by comparison with those raised in the plastics seedling pots. The red peppers in the plastics pot showed a better growth than those in the sludge pots. Sterilizing treatment, latex coating and different mixing ratios between paper sludges and ONP did rarely affect a growth rate of the plant and the contents of inorganic elements. However, latex coating contributed to protection of physical structure of the sludge pots in spite of constant water feeding. Even though some inorganic elements from the sludge pots migrated into the bed soils, electronic conductivity of the bed soils was within the proper range for the plant growth. Finally it was confirmed that the seedling pots made from paper mill sludges could be used to cultivate horticultural plants as the alternative to the plastics pots.

To improve the physical properties of OCC (Old Corrugated Container) fibers, we used the mechanical pre-treatment on the fibers before refining . The mechanical action in the Hobart mixer induced high shear and compression on the fibers, which resulted in changes of fiber internal structure, and microcompressions on the surface of the fibers. We evaluated the amount of mechanical treatment on the fibers by fiber curl index for convenience. Four different refining techniques were applied to the pre-treated fibers (valley beater, Kady mill, PFI mill, and Impact refining) to find the best combination of the pre-treatment and the refining methods. Conclusions were summarized as followed. 1. Mechanical pre-treatment in Hobart mixer for more than 1 hour caused the increase of curl index of OCC fibers, and increased breaking length, burst index, and tear index the handsheets more than 10 % in this experiment. 2. Kady mill and PFI mill refining were effective in keeping fiber length from shortening Kady mill and Valley beater refining straightened out the fiber curls, and reduced the curl index. 3. Valley beating reduced fiber length very fast and generated fines more than other refining methods. 4. To increase breaking length and burst strength while keeping tear strength , combination of mechanical pre-treatment and Valley beating were most effective.
