In this paper we present robust optimal supporting positions for large glass panels used for TFT-LCD monitors when they are stored in a cassette during manufacturing process. The criterion taken is to minimize their maximum deflection. Since they are supported by some supports and have large deformations, contact analysis with a geometrically nonlinear effect is necessary. In addition, the center of a panel can not be positioned exactly as intended and should be considered as uncertainties. To take into account of these effects, the mean and the standard deviation of system response functions, particularly the deflection of the panels, need be calculated. A function approximation moment method (FAMM) is utilized to estimate them. It is a special type of response surface methodology for structural reliability analysis and can be efficiently used to estimate the two stochastic properties, that is, the system performance and the perturbations caused by uncertainties. For a design purpose, they are to be minimized simultaneously by some optimization algorithm to obtain robust optimal supporting positions.
LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel cutting problem is a sort of two dimensional cutting stock problem. A cutting stock problem is problem that it minimizes the loss of the stock when a stock is cut into various parts. In the most research of the two dimensional cutting stock problem, it is supposed that the relative angle of a stock and parts is not important. Usually the angle is regarded as horizontal or perpendicular. In the manufacturing of polarizing film of LCD, the relative angle should be maintained at some specific angle because of the physical and/or chemical characteristics of raw material. We propose a mathematical model for solving this problem, a two-dimensional non-Guillotine cutting stock problem that is restricted by an arranged angle. Some example problems are solved by the C++ program using ILOG CPLEX classes. We could get the verification and validation of the suggested model based on the solutions.
A study of prediction and qualification techniques for structure borne booming noise is presented in this paper. Result from acoustic normal mode finite element analysis of a 1/2 size vehicle cavity sample model is compared to the that from an experiment. Coupled structural-acoustic analysis is performed on a 1/4 size vehicle cavity sample model surrounded by 2 mm thick normal steel plates. Interior noise levels around passensger's ear position are predicted and reduced by structural modification based on panel participation factor analysis about the sample cavity model. Futhermore, optimization technique in application of anti-vibration pad is studied.
An active-matrix LCD using thin film transistors (TFT) has been widely recognized as having potential for high-quality color flat-panel displays. Pixel-Design Array Simulation Tool (PDAST) was used to profoundly understand the gate si후미 distortion and pixel charging capability. which are the most critical limiting factors for high-quality TFT-LCDs. Since PDAST can simulate the gate, data and pixel voltages of a certain pixel on TFT array at any time and at any location on an array, the effect of the resistivity of gate line material on the pixel operations can be effectively analyzed. The gate signal delay, pixel charging ratio and level-shift of the pixel voltage were simulated with varying the parameters. The information obtained from this study could be utilized to design the larger area and finer image quality panel.

Eye Glass Display (EGD) with microdisplay to realize the virtual display can make the large screen, so virtual image has been developed by using microdisplay panel. This paper shows study of low cost lens design and simulation for microdisplay system with 0.6" Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) panel. Lens design optimized consider to spherical aberration, astigmatism, distortion, and chromatic aberration. Code V is used and it designed an aspheric lens about exit pupil 6mm, eye relief 20mm and 35 degree of field of view (FOV). With the application this aspheric lens to LCOS type's microdisplay, virtual image showed 50 inch at 2m. One side of the aspheric lens was constituted from diffractive optical element (DOE) for the improvement in a performance. It had less than ${\pm}2%$ of distortion value and modulation transfer function in axial had 20% of resolution with 30 lp/mm spatial frequency. The optical system is suitable for display of 0.6"-diagonal with SVGA.
First, the effect of the geometry such as the curved shape of the struts composing the truss structure of WBK is elaborated. Then, analytic solutions for the material properties of WBK and the maximum loads of a WBK-cored sandwich panel under bending are derived. A design optimization with the face sheet thickness and the core height selected as the design variables is presented for given slenderness ratios of the WBK core. Unless the face sheet thickness is limited, the optimal design to give the maximum load per weight is always found at a confluence of three failure modes, namely, face sheet yielding, indentation plastic, and core shear modeB plastic.

Plasma display panel(PDP) is a leading technology for large-area flat panel displays. A current issue in operating the PDP cell is that the efficiency of the PDP cell is very low. To increase the efficiency of the PDP cell, the visible light needs to be maximized and the power consumption minimized. Since the excited xenons are related to the production of the visible light, it is important to optimize the cell geometry and the gas composition that produce the excited xenons more efficiently. A 2D-fluid code (FL2P) is developed and used to simulate the plasma dynamics and the radiation transport in the PDP cell. The cell is optimized with the code for various operating conditions and cell dimensions such as the voltage pulse, electrode length, electrode spacing, gap size, dielectric constant, gas mixture ratio, pressure, and pulse duration.
Auxetic material is a material which has negative Poisson's ratio(NPR). Auxetic material shows some distinctive property like high energy absorbing property and high shear modulus. Among these, synclastic curvature is very interesting characteristic. When synclastic-curvature-material bends, it changes its shape like dome, contrary to non-auxetic material which changes its shape like saddle(anticlastic). This distinctive property could make it easy to manufacture curved structure like nose cone or wing panel in aerospace engineering. In this study, we studied a quantitative analysis about synclastic curvature of re-entrant panel with finite element model. We suggested a concept 'Degree of Synclasticity(DOS)', which means a ratio of curvature of load-direction and load-orthogonal direction. We studied the variation of DOS with two factor, unit cell inner angle(${\theta}$) and load position angle(${\phi}$). DOS decreases as ${\theta}$ increases because the unit cell goes out of auxetic-shape. As ${\phi}$ varies, DOS changes in a large range. So proper optimization of ${\phi}$ would be needed for application.
