  • This basic study is to present the methods and raw data for carrying out to objectively assess an ecosystem by developing the plant ecological indices. The results are as follows. The plant ecological indices were 7 units including RI (Rare Index), EI (Endemic Index), SI (Specific Index), NI (Naturalized Index), UI (Urbanized Index), Pte-Q (Pteridophyta Index) and HI (Halophytes Index). The vascular plants in Mt. Waryong, Mt. Bongmyeong and Bito island were summarized as 471 taxa including 104 families, 294 genera, 419 species, 3 subspecies, 41 varieties and 8 forms. We surveyed 5 taxa of rare plants, 7 taxa of endemic plants, 38 taxa of specific plants by floristic region, 40 taxa of naturalized plants, 1 taxa of invasive alien plant, 19 taxa of pteridophyta and 14 taxa of halophytes. Bito island had the highest RI was 1.2%. Mt. Bongmyeong was 1.4% higher than other sites. If the SI of 2.9% was the highest in Bito island. Bito island was the highest NI, and the UI was the hightest in Mt. Waryong. Mt. Bongmyeong was the lowest NI and UI. In Mt. Waryong and Bito island, the highest DI was 9.1%. The Pte-Q of Mt. Waryong was 1.3 higher than the other sites. Bito island, the highest HI was 8.1%. Overall, 1.5% of RI, 1.9% of EI, 2.3% of SI, 8.5% of NI, 14.3% of UI, 9.1% of DI, 1.0 of Pte-Q and 3.0% were analyzed with HI.

  • Background: Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is a life-threatening disease with high mortality. This study aimed to assess the outcomes of surgical embolectomy and to clarify the sustained long-term effects of surgery by comparing preoperative, postoperative, and long-term follow-up echocardiography outcomes. Of 22 survivors, 21 were followed up for a mean (median) period of $6.8{\pm}5.4years$ (4.2 years). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 27 surgical embolectomy cases for massive or submassive acute PTE from 2003 to 2016. Immediate and long-term follow-up outcomes of surgical embolectomy were assessed on the basis of 30-day mortality, long-term mortality, postoperative complications, right ventricular systolic pressure, and tricuspid regurgitation grade. Results: The 30-day and long-term mortality rates were 14.8% (4 of 27) and 4.3% (1 of 23), respectively. Three patients had major postoperative complications, including hypoxic brain damage, acute kidney injury, and endobronchial b leeding, respectively (3.7% each). Right ventricular systolic pressure (median [range], mm Hg) decreased from 62.0 (45.5-78.5) to 31.0 (25.7-37.0, p<0.001). The tricuspid valve regurgitation grade (median [range]) decreased from 1.5 (0.63-2.00) to 0.50 (0.50-1.00, p<0.05). The improvement lasted until the last echocardiographic follow-up. Conclusion: Surgical embolectomy revealed favorable mortality and morbidity rates in patients with acute massive or submassive PTE, with sustained long-term improvements in cardiac function.

  • There are few topic about a pulmonary thromboembolism(PTE) especially in Korean medical research. This case report is dealt with a rare situation that a PTE and a lacunar infarction are complicated in one patient. They have a similarity in that both are caused by the thrombosis. The former is the thrombosis in lung and the latter is the cerebral infarcion within the territory of a single perforating artery Recently the attack rate of PTE somewhat grow because of the development of medicine such as the increasing use of indwelling catheters, trauma or surgery of pelvis and lower extrimity, major surgery especially in senior, the use of estrogen containing compounds, cerebrovascular disease, obesity, etc. A 70 year-old lady was stroked by the cerebral infarction and has been getting rehabilitating therapy. She had the sudden onset of dyspnea, chest pain and those symptoms looked like a myocardial infarction. But she was diagnosed as PTE by ventilation perfusion lung scan. We cured her with the integrated therapy of Korean and Western medicine.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the efficiency of 90 domestic passenger shipping routes using the DEA Window model as a Decision Making Unit (DMU). Data from 2015 to 2019 are divided into three windows, and efficiency was analyzed by using the number of passenger ships of sails, gross tonnage and distance traveled as input variables and transportation performance of the general public and islanders as output variables. As a result of the analysis, improvements are derived and presented for routes with low relative efficiency. In particular, the efficiency is evaluated for general routes operated by private operators as profit routes and auxiliary routes supported by the government as non-profit routes. In addition, scale efficiency (SE) is derived by using the technical efficiency (TE) of the CCR model and the pure technical efficiency (PTE) values of the BCC model. It is found that the inefficiency of the route was due to pure technical efficiency (PTE) rather than scale efficiency (SE). It will be necessary to consider the improvements for each route shown in the analysis results of this study when establishing the policy for the domestic passenger shipping route.
