  • The frame element is commonly used for construction stage analysis PSC bridges. However, the frame element does not show sufficient information in the curved PSC box bridges. For the case of curved PSC bridges, the deformations in the inner and outer web are different. In this case, the different jacking forces are required in the inner and outer webs. And it is impossible to calculate different jacking forces in the inner and outer webs if we use the frame element for construction stage analysis. In order to overcome this problem, the use of shell element is essential for a three-dimensional construction stage analysis of PSC bridges. In the following, the formulation of an assumed strain shell element and its application of PSC box girder bridge analysis are presented.

  • This study is the developed prediction of residual effective prestress force of prestressed concrete beam bridges. Developed prediction method is based on the center camber of prestressed concrete beam, structural design. report of various PSC beams, construction reference materials of PSC beams. Evaluation of residual effective prestress force by developed method is compared with evaluation by structural design. This comparison results shows that this developed method is very effective method. Therefore prediction of residual effective prestress force by this developed method will be used for evaluation of the rating of various PSC beam bridges(road bridges and railway bridges).

  • One of the uncertain damage parameters to jeopardize the safety of existing PSC bridges is the loss of the prestress force. A substantial prestress-loss can lead to severe problems in the serviceability and safety of the PSC bridges. In this paper, a nondestructive method to detect prestress-loss in beam-type PSC bridges using a few natural frequencies is presented. An analytical model is formulated to estimate changes in natural frequencies of the PSC bridges under various prestress forces. Also, an inverse-solution algorithm is proposed to detect the prestress-loss by measuring the changes in natural frequencies. The feasibility of the proposed approach is evaluated using PSC beams for which a few natural frequencies were experimentally measured for a set of prestress-loss cases. Numerical models of two-span continuous PSC beams are also examined to verify that the proposed algorithm works on more complicated cases.

  • Semi-integral abutment bridges are a type of integral abutment bridges. These bridges eliminate expansion joints on the structure and can be used in situations not suitable for full-integral abutment bridge. Moreover, Semi-integral bridges have excellent maintenance and can be economically constructed. This study is about precast wall-type blocks at each end which provide lateral support for PSC girder, as well as acting as retaining walls to resist longitudinal movement of semi-integral abutment bridge. The end-diaphragm connection between ended blocks of PSC girders can be achieved by in-suit nonshrinkage concrete. The results show that 3-point experiment of end-diaphragm beam have an acceptable performance which is so better than results of structural design. Moreover, the effects of backfill soil on semi-integral abutment bridge constructed are analyzed the behavior according to the temperature changes.

  • This paper introduces improved prestressed concrete (PSC) girders for the railway bridges. In order to improve performance of conventional PSC girders, various types of PSC girders are either under development or have already been applied in railway bridges. Incrementally prestressed concrete girder is one of these newly developed girders. According to the design concept, these types of PSC girders have the advantages of requiring less self-weight while having the capability of longer spans. However, the tensional failure of top flange is one of the critical issues at the first prestressing stage. To effectively provide initial section stiffness of PSC girders, concrete block on the top flange is used in this study. The efficiency of the proposed structures, compared with conventional girders and improved ones, is successfully demonstrated in the example.

  • The companion paper presents an analytical model to predict behaviors of PSC-Beam bridges according to continuity of spans. This paper aims at providing several examples of its application to PSC-Beam bridge. In this regard, many uncertainties affecting to the continuity of spans (such as the ultimate shrinkage strain of slab and girders, the prestressing creep of girders, and the time adopting prestressing force) are analysis in detail. Moreover, to increase the serviceability and to remove th inherent structural defects including the cracking at interior supports, a necessity for the parametric studies of PSC-Beam bridges reflecting the construction sequence is emphasized.

  • In spite of the increasing construction of segmental PSC box girder bridges, the techniques associated with real-time monitoring, construction control and safety assessment during construction have been less developed compared with the construction techniques. Thus, the development of an integrated system including real-time measurement and monitoring, control and safety assessment system during construction is necessary fur more safe and precise construction of the bridges. This study presents a prototype integrated monitoring system for preventing abnormal behavior and accidents under construction stages, that consist of behavior control system for precise construction, reliability-based safety assessment system, and structural analysis. Also, a prototype software system is developed on the basis of the proposed model. It is successfully applied to the Sea-Hae Grand Bridge built by FCM. The integrated system model and software system can be utilized for the safe and precise construction of segmental PSC bridges during construction.

  • As the number of aging bridges increases, more studies are being conducted on developing effective and reliable methods for the assessment and maintenance of bridges. With the advancement in new sensing systems and data learning techniques through AI technology, there is growing interests in how to evaluate bridges using these advanced techniques. This paper presents a CNN(Convolution Neural Network) deep learning based technique for evaluating the damage existence and for estimating the damage location in PSC bridges using static strain data. Simulation studies were conducted to investigate the proposed method with error analysis. Damage was simulated as the reduction in the stiffness of a finite element. A data learning model was constructed by applying the CNN technique as a type of deep learning. The damage status and its location were estimated using data set built through simulation. It was assumed that the strain gauges were installed in a regular interval under the PSC bridge girders. In order to increase the accuracy in evaluating damage, the squared error between the intact and measured strains are computed and applied for training the data model. Considering the damage occurring near the supports, the results of error analysis were compared according to whether strain data near the supports were included.

  • Recently, the number of Prestressed Concrete(PSC) bridges needed repair and retrofit because of the increase of heavy traffic loads and aging of concrete materials. But there are a few related researches about strengthening PSC bridges. In this study, the practicability of strengthening methods for PSC beam were studied by the static experimental method. PSC beams in length of 6m were made with concrete slabs. Glass fiber sheeting and external post-tensioning methods were used for strengthening PSC beams. Some beams were strengthened after cracks to investigate the applicability for cracked bridges. As a result, there strengthening methods were efficient at increasing the cracking loads and the failure load, to decrease deflection and prevent cracks. In the case of using glass fiber retrofit methods, it should be careful in the anchorage problems for preventing the bonding failure.
