  • The deteriorated PSC Beam bridge is necessary improved reinforcement method. In the study, it is proposed the box reinforcing method which could make the stiffness of the PSC Beam bridges increase more stably through the secondary composition effect of open type PSC Beam bridge's girder which is converted into the consolidation box type and the half panel is formed between the lower flange of the PSC Beam about the deteriorated PSC Beam bridge suffering the capacity decline. In case the proposed reinforcement method combine with the existed external prestressed method, the close analysis depending on the time is conducted by the construction stage because of searching the effect of reinforcement quantitatively. The reinforcement method of the box type which is proposed an efficiency improvement in objective in application case, by a reinforcement method after proposing the whole and bend sectional reinforcement method, against a each reinforcement method evaluated the upward camber which it follows in secondary composite effect and a member stress characteristics. Also, the structural safety of PSC Beam bridge is evaluated quantitatively by examining of rating factor through load carrying capacity evaluation.

  • This study entailed an investigation of a tensile stress measurement method for prestressed concrete (PSC) tendons by utilizing external magnetization. The target of this study are PS structures that have been constructed and in use. An optimal external magnetization based elasto-magnetic (EM) sensor was designed using finite element analysis considering various factors, such as coil arrangement and size, that could influence the PS tendons inside the PSC girder. The residual tensile stress resulting from the external magnetization of the girder was then determined. Further, theoretical verification was performed using the numerical and material data used in the finite element analysis for sensor design. The calculated values of strength of magnetization at the target location were matched with the finite element analysis results. Thus, the designed sensor and the feasibility of magnetizing the tendons inside the PSC I-girder using an EM sensor were validated.

  • PSC box girder bridges usually have a lot of tendons, and the difference of the bursting forces lies in the prestressing order of the tendons. As a result of the lack of studies on the prestressing order for the bridges, the order depends on the designer's intuition and experiences. In this paper, with investigation into various methods determining the bursting force of the anchorage, reasonable prestressing order is determined by analysis of PSC beam bridge and PSC box girder bridge with most suitable method. It may be stated that this study would be useful for determining the reasonable prestressing order of tendons for the PSC box girder bridges.

  • Prestressed concrete (PSC) bridges are vulnerable to corrosion and fracture of tendons, and in particular, structures using the internal post-tensioned with grouted system have difficulties in maintenance due to limitations of inspection. In this study, the actual behavior of PSC I girder bridge was analyzed according to tendon damage. The target PSC I girder bridge, an decommissioned highway bridge of upper and lower bridges, had the service period of 33 years and 20 years, respectively. Deflection and concrete strain were measured according to the location of damaged tendon and loading method. Regardless of the age of the bridge, its structural performance decreased when the damaged tendon was closer to the center of the girder. The change in behavior increased as the truck load approached to the girder where the tendon cut. If the load was applied to the adjacent girder where the tendon was cut, the structural performance was likely to be maintained due to the influence of the entire structural system. The change in deflection was difficult to observe visually, while the concrete strain exceeded the cracking strain. Therefore, it is recommended that future monitoring and inspection of PSC I girder bridges should focus on concrete strain or cracking.

  • This study presents experimental results of Steel-PSC mixed structural system having front-rear plate connection between Steel and Prestressed Concrete. Two kinds of Steel-PSC mixed structural system of 5.4m length were tested to evaluate flexural behaviors under four point loading, and 4 kinds of specimens with and without prestressing force at R & L type connection were tested to observe the shear behavior. Based on the test results of load-deflection curves and failure modes of specimens, it is found that the proposed L shape connection with front-rear plate connection between Steel and Prestressed Concrete has higher strength and stiffness. From the study, Steel-PSC mixed structural system with L shaped connection has a better structural performance in connection part.

  • In this paper, an analytical method which can describe the structural behavior of prestressed concrete (PSC) bridges reinforced with the unbonded external tendon is developed. Since the unbonded external tendon is directly installed to the deviators while maintaining a straight configuration, it has a different deformation field from that of concrete and accompanies the secondary effect caused by the change of the primary eccentricity between concrete and external tendon. In advance, the friction slip at the deviators is also taken into consideration on the basis of the force equilibrium between the friction force and the driving force. Through correlation studies between experimental data and analytical results, it is verified that the proposed numerical model can effectively predict the structural behavior of PSC beam bridges with comparative precision.

  • In this paper, the prestressing order of tendons is studied to minimize a bursting force of an anchorage. The bursting forces is a primary factor of anchorage failures. The forces of the anchorage depend on the prestressing order and size of the tendons, if a lot of tendons are introduced to the anchorage. Many studies have been made to analyze the bursting force of the anchorage. However, the studies have been limited to the bursting forces of the anchorage having one or two tendons. PSC box girder bridges usually have a lot of tendons. And the difference of the bursting forces lies in the prestressing order of the tendons. As a result of the lack of studies on the prestressing order for the bridges, the order depends on the designer's intuition and experiences. It may be stated that this study should be useful for determining the reasonable prestressing order of tendons for the PSC box girder bridges.
