  • Prestressed concrete girder(PSC girder) bridges have been used widely at the railway as well as highway because they are great in the functional and economical efficiency. Also they have the advantage of convenience of design and construction. Generally, the PSC girder railway bridges with span length 25m are adopted in the country and it could be easily verified that the section of PSC girder using railway bridge is excessive design, which has much redundancy against design loads. Thus, in this paper the optimum design for PSC girder railway bridge with span length 30m is performed. And from the results of analysis it is suggested to denote the optimum section which satisfies the structural safety and economical efficiency all together.

  • In this paper, the modified live-load and designed formula are studied according to the fact the highway bridge design specifications are recently revised. The two examples for composite steel plates and PSC girder bridges are studied. The envelope is analyzed with the finite element models and lateral load distribution method applying the existing highway bridge specification(2010), the newly revised highway bridge specification(2015) and AASHTO LRFD. In case of composite steel plates, length changes between spans are studied, and in case of PSC girder. changes of the number of cross-beams and spans, and span-lengths, are analyzed.

  • In this paper the nonlinear analysis that include time-dependent characteristics of materials and geometric nonlinearity of elements for the cable-stayed PSC bridges is presented. Analysis models for finite element method were developed based on the flexibility based fiber beam-column model originally proposed by Spacone et al.(1996). The developed analysis model implemented in general purpose object-oriented finite element analysis program named HFC(Cho 2009). The performance of proposed analysis models is evaluated by comparing with the former results of the design data. The deflection of time dependent analysis is larger than time ignored analysis on construction sequences, and the bridge is destructed at a smaller deflection than the time ignored analysis on failure behavior.

  • PSC girder bridge is known to be more economical than other types of bridges and has been usually applied to a span range of 25 m to 35 m according to the standard shapes for highway bridges in Korea. The spans of the recently developed new types of PSC girders are also limited to 50 m at most. In this study, therefore, feasibility of the long-span PSC girder that reaches more than 50 m is investigated by applying several strategies from the perspectives of materials, design and construction. A systematic procedure is proposed that can be used to assess the effect of each strategy on the span. The proposed scheme adopts a graphical approach that represents a relationship between the number of prestressing tendons and the span, and is derived on a basis of safety assessment equations of the girder in each stage of fabrication and in service. In the companion paper, the amount of span extension is quantitatively evaluated by applying the proposed scheme into a sample PSC girder bridge.

  • The frame element is commonly used for construction stage analysis PSC bridges. However, the frame element does not show sufficient information in the curved PSC box bridges. For the case of curved PSC bridges, the deformations in the inner and outer web are different. In this case, the different jacking forces are required in the inner and outer webs. And it is impossible to calculate different jacking forces in the inner and outer webs if we use the frame element for construction stage analysis. In order to overcome this problem, the use of shell element is essential for a three-dimensional construction stage analysis of PSC bridges. In the following, the formulation of an assumed strain shell element and its application of PSC box girder bridge analysis are presented.

  • Because of our country's climate that has the 50% of the annual precipitation in summer, annually a lot of bridges on the roads are broken in this season. So, we need an accelerated bridge construction method that complete to repair the roads. This paper introduces the Hangae 2 bridge, prefabricated bridge using full depth precast deck panels and new types of PSC girders. The Hangae 2 bridge located in lnje-gun, kangwon-do. This is a good example of the accelerated bridge construction method for recovery of flood damaged road. The PSC girder bridge system introduced in this paper is a rapid construction method for bridge that can reduce the term of works over 50%.
