  • Monostatic sonar systems localize targets using the time information of pulse transmission and receipt. Whereas, in asynchronous bistatic sonar systems, receivers need to detect direct blast to localize targets, since a source doesn't share pulse information with receivers. In this paper, we propose a direct blast detection algorithm, which estimates PRI (Pulse Repetition Interval) of direct blast and adaptive thresholds. Experimental results show the proposed algorithm has robust direct blast detection performance in the environment where strong background noise and target signal exist.

  • Through applying hostile radar signals that use stagger PRI to PRI transform in real time, we can analyze stagger PRI and calculate the future TOA for active cancellation by using measured TOA and estimated PRI. We shows the effect of the errors that are contained in PRI and measured TOA. Then, it will suggest the technique to improve the accuracy of estimated PRI and the TOA averaging method for reducing the effect of measured TOA error. Finally, we will show that accuracy of estimated future TOA that is calculated by proposed scheme is higher than that of future TOA that is simply calculated with TDOA and newest TOA through comparing RMSE performance.

  • We present a simulation study of an algorithm for the range and angle of arrival(AOA) estimation with an interferometric synthetic aperture radar(InSAR) altimeter using a real digital elevation model(DEM). We also illustrate a step-by-step procedure of generating raw InSAR data, as well as their range and azimuth compressed data, which is to be used for the subsequent altitude and angle estimation. The AOA is estimated using a deterministic maximum likelihood estimator(DMLE) applied to the first arrived point for each pulse in the compressed data obtained with three antennas. The range bin size and the pulse repetition interval(PRI) are much smaller than the cell size of the DEM used in this study. To make the DEM compatible to the radar parameters, we first generate a higher resolution DEM by linearly interpolating the given DEM. After a brief description of the principle of the InSAR altimeter, the algorithms for altitude and angle estimation are presented, and their performance is assessed through simulation.

  • Recently Task Group (TG) 4 of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.15a has been recommended a system with ranging capability in existence of multiple Simultaneous operating piconets (SOPs) as well as low-cost, low-power. According to the ranging service, coherent and non-coherent based ranging schemes using ternary code have been adopted as a standard. However it is hard to estimate an accurate time of arrival (TOA) in case of using direct sequence based TOA estimation method because pulse repetition interval (PRI) offered by TG is more limited than the maximum excess delay (MED) of channel. To mitigate inter pulse interference (IPI) problem, this paper proposes a non-coherent TOA estimation scheme using non-periodic transmission (NPT) pattern. The proposed receiver is based on a non-coherent energy detection considering with motivation of low rate wireless personal area network (LR-WPAN). TOA information is estimated via proper comparison with a prescribed threshold after the sliding correlation and search back window (SBW) process for reducing TOA error. To verify the performance of proposed ranging scheme, two distinct channel models approved by IEEE 802.15.4a TG are considered. According to the simulation results, we could conclude that the proposed scheme have performed better performance than the conventional method on the existence of multiple SOPs.
