Power Quality Early Warning Based on Anomaly Detection

  • Different power quality (PQ) disturbance sources can have major impacts on the power supply grid. This study proposes, for the first time, an early warning approach to identifying PQ problems and providing early warning prompts based on the monitored data of PQ disturbance sources. To establish a steady-state power quality early warning index system, the characteristics of PQ disturbance sources are analyzed and summed up. The higher order statistics anomaly detection (HOSAD) algorithm, based on skewness and kurtosis, and hierarchical power quality early warning flow, were then used to mine limit-exceeding and abnormal data and analyze their severity. Cases studies show that the proposed approach is effective and feasible, and that it is possible to provide timely power quality early warnings for limit-exceeding and abnormal data.

  • This paper proposes a new Artificial-Intelligent(AI) Power Quality(PQ) diagnosis algorithm using Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT), Fast Fourier Transform(FFT), Root-Mean-Square(RMS) value. The developed algorithm is able to detect and classify the PQ problems such as the transient, the voltage sag, the voltage swell, the voltage interruption and the total harmonics distortion. The 15.36[kHz] sampling frequency is used to measure the voltages in a power system. The measured signals are used for DWT, FFT, RMS calculation. For AI diagnosis of the PQ problems, a simple multi-layered Artificial Neural Network(ANN) with the back-propagation algorithm is adopted, programmed in C++ and tested in PSIM simulation studies. Finally, the algorithm, which is installed in MP PQ+256 with TI DSP320C6713, is proved to diagnose the PQ problems efficiently.

PQ Control of Micro Grid Inverters with Axial Voltage Regulators

  • This paper presents a PQ control strategy for micro grid inverters with axial voltage regulators. The inverter works in the voltage-controlled mode and can help improve the terminal power quality. The inverter has two axial voltage regulators. The 1st regulator involves the output voltage amplitude and output impedance, while the 2nd regulator controls the output frequency. The inverter system is equivalent to a controllable voltage source with a controllable inner output impedance. The basic PQ control for micro grid inverters is easy to accomplish. The output active and reactive powers can be decoupled well by controlling the two axial voltages. The 1st axial voltage regulator controls the reactive power, while the 2nd regulator controls the active power. The paper analyses the axial voltage regulation mechanism, and evaluates the PQ decoupling effect mathematically. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is validated by simulation and experimental results.

  • 능동형필터는 주로 비선형 부하로 부터 발생되는 정수배의 고조파를 보상하는데 응용되어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 국가핵융합연구소(NFRI)의 KSTAR 주장치의 전원공급장치인 PF MPS가 가동되면서 특이한 저차수 대역의 비정수 고조파가 발생되는데 이는 MG(motor generator)와 RPC (Reactive Power Compensator)간의 병렬공진 확대현상으로 나타나 고조파 전류의 증가, 전압왜형 상승 등 안정적인 전력계통 운영에 영향을 주고 있다. 따라서 이의 원인이 되는 특이성의 비정수 고조파를 저감시키기 위한 제어 알고리즘 개발과 모의시험에 관한 연구내용을 다루고자한다. 지금까지 개발된 알고리즘은 주로 정수배 고조파만을 대상으로 한 FFT의 일괄보상, 혹은 개별차수 보상방식이었으나 여기서는 DQ 변환 알고리즘을 채용하여 정수배 고조파는 물론 0.5차 단위의 비정수 고조파까지 제어하는 기술을 다루었다.

  • Power Quality (PQ) signal such as sag, swell, harmonics, and impulsive transients are the major issues in the operations of the power electronics based devices and microprocessor based equipments. The effectiveness of wavelet based denoising techniques and recognizing different power quality events with noise has been presented in this paper. The algorithms involved in the noisy PQ recognition system are the wavelet based denoising and the back propagation neural networks. Also, in order to verify the real-time performances of the noisy PQ recognition systems under the noisy environments, SIL(Software In the Loop) and PIL(Processor In the Loop) were carried out, resulting in the excellent recognition performances.

  • This paper proposes a new fault distance calculation method in the power quality (PQ) monitoring system. The proposed method calculates the fault impedance and the fault distance based on the measurement data of the PQ monitors and the information of the topology of the distribution systems. By using the iterative calculation method, the proposed method can find more exact location of the PQ events than the existing methods. The proposed method is applied to the IEEE 34 bus test feeders by using the PSCAD/EMTDC$^{TM}$.

  • In this paper, we have studied the power quality(PQ) diagnosis system with the two methods for PQ diagnosis. One to Apply a regulation value in compliance with mathematics calculation, and the other Automatic identification using Neural network algorithm. Neural network algorithm is used for an automatic diagnosis of the PQ. The regulation proposed by IEEE 1159 Working group is applied for the precision of the diagnosis. In order to divide accurate segmentation, the algorithm for a computer training used the back propagation out of several neural network algorithms. We have configured the proto-type sample by using Labview and a programmed Neural Networks Algorithm using with C. And arbitrary electric Signal generated by OMICRON Company's CMC 256-6 for an efficiency test.

A Parallel Processing System for Visual Media Applications (시각매체를 위한 병렬처리 시스템)

  • Visual media(image, graphic, and video) processing poses challenge from several perpectives, specifically from the point of view of real-time implementation and scalability. There have been several approaches to obtain speedups to meet the computing demands in multimedia processing ranging from media processors to special purpose implementations. A variety of parallel processing strategies are adopted in these implementations in order to achieve the required speedups. We have investigated a parallel processing system for improving the processing speed o f visual media related applications. The parallel processing system we proposed is similar to a pipelined memory stystem(MAMS). The multi-access memory system is made up of m memory modules and a memory controller to perform parallel memory access with a variety of combinations of 1${\times}$pq, pq${\times}$1, and p${\times}$q subarray, which improves both cost and complexity of control. Facial recognition, Phong shading, and automatic segmentation of moving object in image sequences are some that have been applied to the parallel processing system and resulted in faithful processing speed. This paper describes the parallel processing systems for the speedup and its utilization to three time-consuming applications.

  • As the developing of industry, the nonlinear equipments as inverter, converter, SMPS(Switching Mode Power Supply) and motor have been increased. But the sensitive electronic loads to the power quality, such as computers and other electronic equipments, have been spreaded out very fast. Thus, the power quality(PQ) problems and the real time power quality monitering(PQM) are one of the important issues in industry and building area for the intelligent control of the systems. One of them, PQM using PLC(Power Line Communication) have good merits that can send and receive the PQ information without any new network line. This paper presents the PQM hardware and software to monitor the PQ information by using PLC that meets the categories of IEEE Std. 1159.

Application of Fuzzy PI Control Algorithm as Stator Power Controller of a Double-Fed Induction Machine in Wind Power Generation Systems

  • This paper addresses the output control of a utility-connected double-fed induction machine (DFIM) for wind power generation systems (WPGS). DFIM has a back-to-back converter to control outputs of DFIM driven by the wind turbine for WPGS. To supply commercially the power of WPGS to the grid without any problems related to power quality, the real and reactive powers (PQ) at the stator side of DFIM are strictly controlled at the required level, which in this paper is realized with the Fuzzy PI controller based on the field orientation control. For the Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) converter connected to the rotor side of DFIG to maintain the controllability of PQ at the state side of DFIM, the DC voltage of the DC link capacitor is also controlled at a certain level with the conventional Proportion-Integral (PI) controller of the real power. In addition, the power quality at the grid connected to the rotor side of DFIM through the back-to-back converter is maintained in a certain level with a PI controller of the reactive power. The controllers for the PQ at the stator side of DFIM, the DC link voltage of the back-to-back inverter and the reactive power at the grid connected to the rotor side of DFIM are designed and simulated in the PSIM program, of which the result verifies the performance of the proposed controllers.
