The diverse roles of RNA polymerase II C-terminal domain phosphatase SCP1

  • RNA polymerase II carboxyl-terminal domain (pol II CTD) phosphatases are a newly emerging family of phosphatases that are members of DXDX (T/V). The subfamily includes Small CTD phosphatases, like SCP1, SCP2, SCP3, TIMM50, HSPC129 and UBLCP. Extensive study of SCP1 has elicited the diversified roles of the small C terminal domain phosphatase. The SCP1 plays a vital role in various biological activities, like neuronal gene silencing and preferential Ser5 dephosphorylation, acts as a cardiac hypertrophy inducer with the help of its intronic miRNAs, and has shown a key role in cell cycle regulation. This short review offers an explanation of the mechanism of action of small CTD phosphatases, in different biological activities and metabolic processes.

  • This paper presents a method of suboptimal control for nonlinear systems via block pulse transformation. The adaptive optimal control scheme proposed by J.P. Matuszewski is introduced to minimize the performance index. Nonlinear systems are controlled using the obtained optimal control via block pulse transformation. The proposed method is simple and computationally advantageous. Viablity of the this method is established with simulation results for the van der Pol equation for comparision with other methods.

  • The Impcdance Matching Condition for maximum power out-pilt cf an Impact oscillator is calculated using the Van der pol's equation. From this calculation, it is found that the load impedance of the oscillator must be one half of the diode impedance for the maximum power output. To get an experimental proof for this result, tole impedance of the Impatt-diode was measured and accordingly the microwave oscillator designed and fabricated. The data obtaiped from the experiments agree fairly closely with the theoretical values.

  • The effect of a periodic and a chaotic' behaviour in the Bonhoeffer-Van der Pol(BVP) oscillation of the nerve membrane driven by a periodic stimulating current $A_1=cos\;{\omega}\;t$ are investigated by numeric analysis and hardware Implementation. To control the chaotic motion, we are suggested by temperature parameter c, $c=c(1+\eta\;cos\;{\Omega}\;t)$ which the values of $\eta,\;Omega$ varied respectively. The feasibilities of chaotic and periodic phenomena were analysed by phase plane and time series.

  • The herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1)-encoded DNA polymerase consists of two subunits, the products of the UL30 and UL42 genes. UL30 and UL42 were coexpressed in Sf9 cells infected with recombinant baculoviruses carrying the two genes. The UL30 and UL42 gene products remained tightly associated throughout the purification, which led to a near homogeneous heterodimer composed of the DNA polymerase and UL42 protein. The DNA polymerase-UL42 protein heterodimer, purified from the recombinant baculovirus-infected Sf9 cells, showed the same high degree of processivity of deoxynucleotide polymerization as the enzyme purified from the HSV-1 infected primate cells. Like the latter, it contained a 3'-5' exonuclease activity that specifically hydrolyzes an incorrectly matched nucleotide at the 3' terminus of a primer, thereby contributing to the fidelity of DNA replication.

  • A new feedback control system based on system identification is proposed and preliminarily tested on Van der Pol equation which has a similar characteristic to circular cylinder. The same principle is applicable to circular cylinder in a uniform flow for suppresing the vortex shedding. The feedback controller is designed to impose feedback signal at the phase which is located outside the range of lock-on. The lift coefficient (CL) is employed as a feedback signal and the control forcing is given by a rotational oscillation of the cylinder. By applying the feedback control system, the lift coefficient is reduced.

  • The strain which produced highly viscous exopolysaccharides (EPS) in liquid culture was selected from soil. The strain was supposed to Bacillus sp. from the results of mophological, biochemical and physiological tests. The medium composition for EPS production was trypton 0.75%, sucrose 4%, CaCO3 0.01%, Winogradsky's nitrogen free mineral medium 5ml/l and pH 7.0. In 2-l jar fernenter, the viscosity of culture broth after 120-hr cultivation time was very high (60, 000 cps) and the amount of EPS was 6.2g/l.

  • Recent SAR systems provide fully polarimetric SAR data, which is known to be useful in a variety of applications such as disaster monitoring, target recognition, and land cover classification. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of polarization SAR data for landslide detection. The detectability of different SAR parameters was investigated based on the supervised classification approach. The classifier used in this study is the Adaptive Boosting algorithms. A fully polarimetric L-band PALSAR-2 data was used to examine landslides caused by the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake in Kyushu, Japan. Experimental results show that fully polarimetric features from the target decomposition technique can provide improved detectability of landslide site with significant reduction of false alarms as compared with the single polarimetric observables.

A Study on the Oil Pollution Compensation System in Korea (우리나라 유류오염보상제도에 관한 고찰)

  • As a result of accepting the '71 FUND Convention and enforcing the Oil Pollution Compensation Act 1992, we observed some benefits and costa. This paper analyses those benefits and costs and suggests se-veral key policy recommendations for the estasblishment of an effective oil pollution compensation regime in Korea. This paper identifies the said benefits and costs as follows : First, by establishing the oil pollu-tion compensation system as same as the international level, most of small and medium size of oil pollution damage which are caused by coastal tankers will be compensated by FUND. Second, most of oil pollution damage which are not covered by '69 CLC will be compensated by FUND. Third, some parts of FUND Contribution Fee and CRISTAL Contribution Fee to be charged by major oil companies will be doubled. However the limit of international oil pollution compensation system and the loophole outside the Oil Pol-lution Compensation Act 1992 suggest followings : 1) Radical risk management and insurance manage-ment of ocean going tanker owners, 2) Establishment of oil pollution claim settlement system, 3) Enforce-ment of crew and ship management for coastal tanker and 4) Establishment of Korean P & I Club.

A Study on the Style of the Pyonbokpo(便服抱) in Koryo Dynasty (고려시대(高麗時代) 편복포(便服抱)에 대한 연구(硏究))

  • In Koryo Dynasty Pyonbokpo(便服抱) was worn by both sexes. There were four styles that was Yosunchollic, Dappo, Pol, Poll, of the men's Pyonbokpo(便服抱). Double breast style (重据形) was used for the adjustments of these clothes. Neckline and he-m line were substituted by rectangular collar (목판깃). The width and length of sleeves in Yosunch-ollic was tighter and shorter as general Po. Coat-string (Okgolum), side slit were used. Feminine Pyonbokpo (便服抱) had usually same style of men's one. There was one was back longer than front length. They wore it with or without a belt. Knot-button, Coat-string (Okgolum), White straight collar (DongJung), side slit were used.
