Hydrophobic plastic plates employing nano surface features are injection molded using thermoplastic materials. A variotherm molding process is devised for filling the nano pores and releasing the molded nano features from the master. The size of the molded nano surface features are about 100nm in diameter and 200nm in height. The size of the molded plate is about 30mm x 30mm and the thickness is 1mm. As molding materials, Polypropylene, PMMA, COC and PC are employed, which are all typical commodity thermoplastic materials. The mold temperature(stamper temperature) is investigated as a major processing parameter for molding high aspect ratio nano surface features. Almost fully molded nano features are fabricated above a certain level of mold temperature depends on the employing material. The contact angles on the injection molded plates are measured to estimate the hydrophobicity and found to have higher contact angle up to 180% compared to the blank plate with no surface features.
We studied optical simulation method for ultra slim backlight system. We designed 0.7mm thickness light guide plate and combined 48 white color LEDs for 12 inch wide size TFT-LCD. We designed flat shape PMMA light guide plate with both side patterned. It have vertical prism shape on upper side and ellipse dot pattern on the other side. We targeted 4500 nit brightness and uniform emission characteristic without hot spot or dark area. At first, we designed uniform emission area with more high brightness in center area and then, debugged light entering hot spot zone and direction of outgoing light flux. Although it was designing step, we obtained good result with reverse prism optical sheet and it had good repeatability because it was based on the stamper method in injection process without laser engraving or micro groove engraving method.
statement of problem The viscoelastic property is the most important and peculiar characteristics of soft liners. Helical gear excitation is transmitted to a gearbox through the shafts and bearings and the vibration of the gearbox radiates the noise in the air. Therefore gearbox modeling is essential to evaluate the gear noise. This work deals with vibration and acoustic analysis of a cylindrical shell-type gearbox with/without holes excited by helical gears and focuses on the development of the simple gearbox model. To do so, helical gears and bearing forces are calculated. Gearbox with/without holes is modeled by the aluminum end plates and PMMA cylindrical shell body. The vibration mode and the forced harmonic response were calculated by the commercial FE software and the end plate of the gearbox is more contributed to vibration than the body. Acoustic analysis was also conducted by the commercial acoustic software and a cylindrical shell type gearbox with/without holes has the similar vibro-acoustic characteristics.
In this research, buckling and free vibration of rectangular polymeric laminate reinforced by graphene sheets are investigated. Various patterns are considered for augmentation of each laminate. Critical buckling load is evaluated for different parameters, including boundary conditions, reinforcement pattern, loading regime, and laminate geometric states. Furthermore, vibration analysis is investigated for square laminate. Elastic properties of the composite are calculated using a combination of both molecular dynamics (MD) and the rule of mixture (MR). Kinematics of the plate is approximated based on the first shear deformation theory (FSDT). The current analysis is performed based on the energy method. For the numerical investigation, Ritz method is applied, and for shape functions, Chebyshev polynomials are utilized. It is found that the number of layers is effective on the buckling load and natural frequency of laminates which made from non-uniform layers.
In this paper, we developed an optical sheet for LED lighting with integrated $CO_2$ gas and temperature sensor which can monitor at the indoor environment. The optical sheet for LED lighting is fabricated through PMMA(Polymethyl methacrylate) injection process using mold. This research enables to fabricate the reflective sheet, light-guide plate and the prism sheet in a optical sheet. The fabricated sheet demonstrates higher intensity of optical efficiency compared with single-sided sheets. The $CO_2$ sensor was fabricated using NDIR(NON-Dispersive Infrared) method and it has $0.0235mV/V{\cdot}PPM$ sensitivity. The temperature sensor was fabricated using RTD(Resistance temperature detector) method and it has $0.563{\Omega}/^{\circ}C $sensitivity.
A new type of multi-viewing zone screen for multiview 3-D display is described. The screen is made by stacking a Fresnel lens and a reflective prism array plate. The screen performs both focusing and beam dividing functions and directs very narrow light beams to three viewing zones for three spectators. The results of experimental testing of the screen have demonstrated that current technology of Fresnel lens and prism grooves on PMMA(Ploymethyl Methacrylate) allows manufacture of screen having a pixel size of about 1-2 mm. This size is reasonable enough for a screen with dimensions about 1m size. Optical qualities of Fresnel lenses and grooved prism arrays achieve an angular resolution for the screen of several angular minutes.
A method for repairing cracks using low-viscosity resins has been proposed as a construction method that can quickly repair roads from deterioration. However, when the viscosity of the epoxy resin is high, there is a limit in that it is difficult for the material to penetrate into microcracks and cracks in the concrete top plate. In this study, an epoxy thin-layer pavement repair method was developed using low-viscosity PMMA (Poly methyl methacrylate) to repair microcracks on the pavement surface and pavement layer and reinforce the pavement surface. Materials necessary for the thin-layer packaging method were developed, and performance was evaluated to meet the epoxy binder quality standards. As a result, all materials met the required performance.
5-methylthioninhydrin (5-MTN) is an amino acid sensitive reagent used for the development of latent fingermarks deposited on porous surfaces such as paper and wood. The present study demonstrates that the 5-MTN can be used as a latent footwear impression enhancement reagent, by reacting with trace multivalent metal ions, which are the main components of the latent footwear impression. 5-MTN and L-alanine complex (MTN-ALA) used for the latent footwear impression development was prepared, by mixing $4.5{\times}10^{-3}M$ 5-MTN (in methanol) and $4.5{\times}10^{-3}M$ L-alanine (in methanol) in 1:1 ratio, and keeping undisturbed at room temperature for 24 h. The latent footwear impressions were deposited on white and black non-porous surfaces (glass plate, polyethylene panel, polypropylene panel, acryl panel, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) panel, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) panel, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) panel, tile), and a semi-porous surfaces (painted wood). The latent footwear impressions on these surfaces were treated with MTN-ALA complex by spraying. The fluorescence of footwear impressions (occurred due to the reaction between MTN-ALA and metal complexes) was observed under a 505 nm forensic light source and an orange barrier filter. The enhancement of latent footwear impression was achieved from black surfaces without any blurring. However, the fluorescence (enhancement) of footwear impression was not observed on the white PVC, PMMA, and ABS surfaces, because the incident light interfered and reflected on the surface. The sensitivity of MTN-ALA was superior to 2,2'-dipyridil, which is a representative non-fluorescing footwear impression enhancement reagent, and similar to 8-hydroxyquinoline, which is a representative fluorescing footwear impression enhancement reagent.
In this study, it was investigated about the variation of luminance properties in LED backlight with geometrical shape such as prism or lens shape on the light-entering face. Generally, LED light source has the loss in backlight system because it has horizontal direction light. PMMA(Poly-Methyl-Meta-Acrylate) is used LGP(Light-Guide-Plate) in conventional backlight system. PMMA has low refraction angle. so that. horizontal direction light was not used in backlight system. The addition of geometrical shape in light-entering face in LGP improves the luminance characteristics because it prevents horizontal direction light generation in light-entering-face. Prism or lens shape in same pitch disposition was almost same without these treatment such as the value of 1% rising. Besides. It is particular that the gap of these shape such as the value of 0.407~0.22mm prevents horizontal direction light, so then it contributes luminance rising at 5.6%.
