PVA-PMAA에 의한 헥사고 오염모래의 고정화 특성 (Characteristic of PVA-PMAA on the Fixation of Radioactively Contaminated Sand as a Result of a Nuclear Accident)

  • 모래 입자를 대상으로 PVA-PMAA 계의 방사능 고정화 특성을 연구하였다. PMAA의 카르복시기는 PVA에 의해 해리가 억제되는 경향을 나타내었다. PMAA의 농도가 0.082M 이하일 때, PVA-PMAA로 처리한 모래층의 투과율은 혼합 용액내에 존재하는 PMAA의 농도에 정비례하고, 실험으로부터 얻은 비례 상수(k)는 -8.95$\times$10 ̄$^4$$cm^{5}$ /mole 이다. 투과도의 변화를 두 고분자 사이의 상호 작용에 의해 거대 분자간 착물이 형성됨에 의한 것으로 설명할 수 있었다. 모래 표면에 형성된 고분자 가교는 모래 입자들을 더욱 견고하게 부착시키는 것으로 나타났다. 본 계의 이온성 방사성 핵종에 대한 고정화 능력은 PVA를 단독 적용한 경우에 비하여 우수하다.

  • Polyethylene oxide (PEO)-polymethacrylic acid (PMAA) interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN) were synthesized via radical polymerization of PMAA and simultaneous crosslinking of PEO using triisocyanate. The equilibrium swelling of PEO-PMAA IPN was determined at different pHs. The swelling of PEO-PMAA IPN, ranged from 20% to 90%, was more sensitive than that of homo polymer PMAA gel This is probably due to protonation and deprotonation of the PMAA network and interpolymer complex formation between PEO and PMAA. Several model drugs were loaded into the IPN matrices and the release mechanisms were investigated. The release of nonionizable drugs such as ftorafur and prednisolone was controlled by swelling of the matrices. However, he release of propranolol, positively charged drug, was more affected by the ionic interaction between the drug and PMAA newtork, and the interpolymer complexation.

Complex Formation of Syndiotactic Poly(methacrylic acid) with Complementary Polymers through Hydrogen Bonding

  • Complex formations between syndiotactic poly(methacrylic acid) (st-PMAA) and poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), and that between st-PMAA and polyethyleneoxide (PEO) through hydrogen bonding were studied by viscometry and potentiometry. Reduced viscosity (${\eta}_{red}$) was measured at various mole fraction of PVP or PEO with respect to a constant amount of st-PMAA. Observation shows a sharp minimum at the 1:1 mole ratio of st-PMAA:PVP or st-PMAA:PEO, which shows that the complexation becomes optimal and the complex has a compact structure in this ratio. Variation of pH also supports this conclusion. This is the case of the system of st-PMAA and PVP in water as well as in DMF. Also the complexation is much enhanced when the molecular weight of PVP is high. Meanwhile, the system of st-PMAA and PEO shows a little different behavior, i.e., this system does not form the complex in DMF and does only in water. It is because the interaction st-PMAA with PEO is weaker than that with PVP.

침강성 탄산칼슘 현탁액의 분산 안정성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Dispersion Stability of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate Suspensions)

  • 본 연구에서는 탄산화법으로 침강성 CaCO$_3$분말을 제조하고 제조된 CaCO$_3$현탁액의 분산안정성을 연구하였다. CaCO$_3$현탁액의 pH 변화와 고분자전해질 PMAA와 PAA의 첨가에 따른 입자크기, 유동학적 특성(점도), zeta potential 및 현탁액의 침강속도 등을 측정하였다. 탄산화법에 의해 약 0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$ 크기와 비표면적이 23.57$m^2$/g인 단분단 calcite형 CaCO$_3$분말을 제조하였다. pH가 11인 CaCO$_3$현탁액에 0.01 wt% PMAA가 첨가된 경우에 우수한 분산안정성을 나타내었는데 이는 CaCO$_3$입자표면에 PMAA의 흡착에 의한 electrosteric 안정화기구와 CaCO$_3$입자들 사이의 정전기적 반발력에 의한 것으로 판단된다. PMAA와 PAA 첨가량 변화에 따른 pH 6, 9, 11의 CaCO$_3$현탁액의 침전높이를 측정한 결과 PMAA와 PAA의 농도가 0.15 wt% 부근에서 분산안정성을 보였는데 이는 CaCO$_3$입자들 사이간의 분산제에 의한 뚜렷한 경계를 갖는 흡착층이 형성되었기 때문으로 생각되며 따라서 CaCO$_3$현탁액의 최적 분산안정성을 위해서는 적절한 pH 조절과 PMAA 및 PAA의 첨가가 필요함을 알 수 있다.

  • Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)-poly(methacrylic acid)(PMAA) 계의 방사능 고정화에 대한 일련의 실험을 수행하였다. 전위차 적정 데이터와 FT-IR spectra 를 해석하여 PVA-PMAA 계의 화학적 특성을 설명하였다. 인위적으로 오염시킨 모래에 대한 침출실험 결과, $^{241}$Am, $^{154,155}$ Eu, $^{144}$ Ce의 전이 계수가 $^{l34,137}$ Cs 에 비해 높은 것으로 나타났다. 실험에 사용된 고분자 용액중, PVA-PMAA 계는 전체 방사능의 85% 이상을 차지하는 Cs 의 고정화에 효과적이었다.

  • A series of laboratory experiments was conducted to investigate the fixation characteristics of poly(vinylalcohol)-poly(methacrylic acid)(PVA-PMAA) mixed solution on the soluble (equation omitted)-radionuclides. Using the potentiometric titration technique, it was found out that the PVA and PMAA in a solution form intermacromolecular complex. The mobilized portion of each radionuclide by water from sand surface treated with a fixative was measured by ${\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy, The mobilized portion of minor radionuclides such as $^{241}$ Am, $^{154}$ Eu, $^{155}$ Eu and $^{144}$ Ce were higher than those of $^{134}$ Cs and $^{137}$ Cs. The capability of PVA-PMAA system was better among the candidate solutions for the fixation of total (equation omitted)-radioactivity, $^{134,137}$Cs which is composed of more than 85 % of total ${\gamma}$-radioactivity could be fixed effectively by the PVA-PMAA solution.

  • In aqueous slurry processing of silicon nitride, the interaction of dispersant and binder on the surface of particles was studied to identify the effect of these additives on ceramic powder processing. Polymethacrylic acid (PMAA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were used as dispersant and binder, respectively. the adsorption isotherms of PMAA and PVA for the silicon nitride suspension were determined, while the adsorption of PMAA was differentiated in the mixed additive system by ultraviolet spectroscopy. These experiments were done in order to investigate the effect of these organic additives on the physicochemical properties of silicon nitride suspensions. The electrokinetic behavior of silicon nitride was subsequently measured by electrokinetic sonic amplitude (ESA). As PMAA adsorbed onto silicon nitride, the isoelectric point (pHicp) shifted from pH=6.7 to acidic pH, depending on the surface coverage of PMAA. However, adsorption of PVA did not change the pHicp of suspensions, but did decrease the surface potential of silicon nitride moderately. The rheological behavior of silicon nitride suspensions was measured to assess the stability of particles in aqueous media, and was correlated with the electrokinetic behavior and adsorption isotherm data for silicon nitride.

Ab Initio Dispersion Polymerization of Styrene in the Presence of the Poly(methacrylic acid) Macro-RAFT Agent

  • Stable, spherical, polystyrene particles were synthesized in ab initio dispersion polymerization by using the poly(methacrylic acid)[PMAA] macro-RAFT agent. The presence of the PMAA macro-RAFT agent on the polystyrene (PS) particles was confirmed by NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. The PS particle size was influenced by the concentration of the RAFT agent and monomer due to the initial nucleation. When the concentration of the PMAA macro-RAFT agent was increased from 2 to 10 wt% relative to the monomer, the average particle size decreased from 2.31 to 1.36 ${\mu}m$, the conversion decreased from 93.3 to 88.9%, the weight-average molecular weight increased from 46,300 to 150,200 g $mol^{-1}$ and the PDI decreased from 2.79 to 1.94, respectively. In particular, the incorporation of 10 wt% of PMAA macro-RAFT agent produced monodisperse PS spheres of 1.36 ${\mu}m$ with a coefficient of variation (CV) of 6.44%. Thus, the PMAA macro-RAFT agent worked as a reactive steric stabilizer providing monodisperse, micron-sized, PS particles.

  • 수용성 단량체인 메타크릴산 (MAA)을 단량체로 potassium persulfate (KPS)를 개시제로 이용하여 $70^{\circ}C$에서 $90^{\circ}C$ 사이의 선택된 온도에서 용액중합을 진행하였다. 물에 대한 메타크릴산의 농도가 감소하거나 개시제의 농도가 증가하면 분자량은 감소하였다. 중합반응온도는 폴리메타크릴산 (PMAA)의 분자량에 크게 영향을 미치지 않았다. Weissenberg 효과는 대부분의 반응온도에서 나타났으며, $90^{\circ}C$에서는 약하게 관찰되었다. 대부분의 중합반응에서 분산성지수는 1.5 이하로 관찰되었다. 교반속도가 증가하면서 분자량은 점진적으로 증가하다, 교반속도가 800 rpm에 이르면서 수평균 및 중량평균분자량이 동일하게 791,000 g/mol의 분자량을 갖는 단분산성의 PMAA가 구하여졌다. 유리전이온도는 $162^{\circ}C$로 측정되었다.
