The purpose of this study is to develop multifunctional fabric that has improved antimicrobial activity and reduction rate of gas by treatment of mixture of chito colla and crosslinking material for polyester. The surface morphology of treated PET fabric was studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The properties of the PET fabric, such as antimicrobial activity, whiteness, moisture regain, water absorption and static voltage, and handle were investigated. Antimicrobial activity of treated PET fabric was proved 99%. The surface of treated PET fabric showed harshness and irregularity. The whiteness of treated PET fabric on the baking condition was decreased as time and temperature was increased. The moisure regain of treated PET fabric equally was maintained. Water absorption and static voltage of treated PET fabric were improved. KOSHI of treated PET fabric was increased compared with the untreated PET fabric H/W of treated PET fabric was improved compared with the untreated PET fabric and 2HB/B of treated PET fabric were reduced.
The low melting PET yarn has sheath/core structure: sheath portion consists of low melting point PET and core portion is regular PET. Dyeing properties of fabric made from low melting PET yarn were investigated at different dyeing temperatures. It was found that the exhaustion yield on the low melting PET fabric was higher than on regular PET fabric. The total K/S value of the dyed low melting PET fabric increased as heat setting temperature increased above $150^{\circ}C$ because the sheath portion of the low melting yarn melted. Although fastness to light of the low melting PET fabric was similar to regular PET fabric, fastness to washing was inferior to regular PET fabric by 1 grade.
To develope a high value-added fiber products which is useful in the human body physiology, the Macban stone was deposited on the PET fabric by sputtering and its effects were investigated. Then, a Macban stone target was prepared for sputtering treatment and treated on the PET fabric by RF sputtering process. After treatment, surface observation by SEM, far-infrared emissivity and emissive power, the fastness to washing and light, bacteriostatic rate, electrostatic, drape stiffness, and breaking strength of PET fabric were investigated. From these investigation, the following conclusions were obtained. 1) The Macban stone was able to deposit on the PET fabric, by the RF sputtering treatment which is eco-friendly dry textile finishing. 2) The far-infrared emissivity and emissive power of sputtered PET fabrics were increased. 3) When PET fabric was treated by sputtering with Macban stone, the amount of deposited Macban stone increased with increasing treatment time and it was deposited on the fabric surface firmly. 4) The bacteriostatic rate of sputtered PET fabrics was about 20%. 5) The electrostatic charge of fiber surface was reduced by sputtering. 6) The fastness washing to light of dyed fabric were improved by the deposition of Macban stone, but the breaking strength was not changed by sputtering. 7) The drape stiffness of sputtered PET fabrics increased with increasing treatment time.
Effect of interfacial electrical conditions such as, the f potential of PET fiber and u-Fe203 particles, the stability parameter and potential energy of interaction on adhesion of a-Fe903 particles to PET fabric and their removal from the fabric, were investigated as functions of pH, electrolyte and ionic strength. The stability parameter, potential energy of interaction between a-Fe2O3 particles and PET fabric were calculated by using the heterocoagulation theory for a sphere-plate model The adhesion of a-Fe2O3 particles to PET fabric and their removal from PET fabric were carried out by using water bath shaker and Terg-O-Tometer under various solution conditions. The adhesion of a-Fe2O3 particles to the PET fabric and the removal of a-Fe2O3 particles from the PET fabric were biphasic and were maximum and minimum at pH 7~8, respectively. With high pH and polyanion electrolytes in solution, the adhesion of a-Fe2O3 particles to the PET fabric was low but effects of electrolytes on the removal of a-Fe2O3 particles from the PET fabric was small. The adhesion of a-Fe2O3 particles to the PET fabric and the removal of a-Fe2O3 Particles from the PET fabric were biphasic, and were lowest and highest at the ionic strength 1$\times$10-3, respectively. The adhesion of a-Fe2O3 particles to PET fabric was well related with the interfacial electrical conditions; it was negatively correlated with the f potentials of a-Fe2O3 Particles of its absolute value, the stability parameter and the maximum of total potential energy, while, the adhesion was not related with the t potentials of PET fiber itself. Therefore, the primary factor determining the adhesion of a-Fe203 particles to PET fabric may be the stability of dispersed particles caused by the electrical repulsion of particles. The removal of a-Fe203 particles from PET fabric was not related to such interfacial electrical conditions as the t potentials of PET fiber, the stability parameter and the maximum of total potential energy but removal was related to t potential of a-Fe203 particles.
This study is conducted to investigate the influence of addition of quarternary ammonium salt(cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide: CTAB) when polyester(PET) fabric is treated with sodium hydroxide(NaOH), depending on experimental variables such as CTAB concentration, NaOH concentration, time & temperature, and the change in physical & chemical properties of alkaline-hydrolyzed PET fabrics depending on their weight loss. The results are as follows: 1. By adding CTAB in aqueous NaOH, the weight loss of PET fabric is increased remarkably and until the concentration of CTAB is reached at its cmc, and the higher the concentration of CTAB are, the more weight loss on PET fibrics are. 2. The addition of CTAB in aqueous NaOH is most effective at lower NaON concentration(2%) among various NaOH concentration, on increasing the amount of weight loss, while there are almost similar results through various treatment time and temperature. 3. As the amount of weight of weight loss on PET fabric is increased, the increase of void space in the PET yarn, of softness & dyeability of PET fabric and the decrease of tensile strength are found. On the other hand, the moisture regain shows a little increase by alkaline-hydrolysis on PET fabric while vertical absorption test & water retention value are not sufficiently sensitive to distinguish between the hydrophillicity of untreated and treated PET fabric. The shrinkage of PET fabric is induced by swelling in hot aqueous NaOH regardless of NaOH concentration & addition of CTAB.
Dyeing and fastness properties of direct spun type PET microfiber velvet woven fabric have been compared with those of regular PET velvet woven fabric. They showed different exhaustion and rate of dye uptake. The build-up properties of disperse dyes on direct spun type PET microfiber velvet woven fabric were relatively poor than regular PET velvet woven fabric. The wash fastness properties of disperse dyes on regular PET velvet woven fabric were similar to direct spun type PET microfiber velvet woven fabric.
The effect of hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of PET fabric on the detergency of particulate soil were investigated as functions of the concentration of hydrophilic and hydrophobic chemicals, surfactant concentration, ionic strength, adhesion and removal time, and pH. The detergency of the particulate soil was determined by the adhesion of particles to and their removal from fabric, the PET fabric and ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ were used as textile materials and for the model of particulate soil, respectively. The hydrophilic and hydrophobic finish for PET fabric was treated with a polyester, silicone and fluorine organic compound of resin respectively. The adhesion of particulate soil to fabric treated with hydrophobic chemicals were slightly higher but its removal from fabric treated with hydrophobic chemicals was largely higher than fabric treated with a hydrophilic chemical regardless of solution conditions such as the concentration of hydrophilic and hydrophobic chemicals, surfactant concentration, ionic strength, adhesion and removal time, and pH. Therefore, hydrophobic treatment for fabric had a more positive effect than the hydrophilic treatment on the detergency of particulate soil.
This paper investigated wear comfort property of heat storage knitted fabrics for high emotional garment. For this purpose, ZrC imbedded PET knitted fabric was prepared and various physical properties such as thermal, wicking and drying characteristics were measured. In addition, far-infrared emission characteristics of ZrC imbedded PET was analysed and tactile hand property and dye affinity of ZrC imbedded knitted fabric were also studied in comparison with regular and other commercial heat storage PET knitted fabrics. It was observed that Zr imbedded amount in the yarn was 19.29% by ingredient analysis and far-infrared emission energy was $3.65{\times}10^2W/m^2$, emissivity was 0.906 at the range of wavelength $6{\sim}20{\mu}m$. It was found that maximum heat flow (Qmax) of ZrC imbedded PET knitted fabric was lower than that of regular PET one and warmth keepability rate was higher than that of regular PET one, which means ZrC imbedded PET have heat storage property. Drying property of ZrC imbedded knitted fabric was better than that of regular PET one due to heat by far-infrared emitted from ZrC in the core of filament. It revealed that wicking property of the ZrC imbedded fabric was not influenced by far-infrared emission, but affected by fibre physical properties. Tactile hand property of ZrC imbedded knitted fabric was not influenced by imbedding ZrC in the filament but affected preferably by structure of knitted fabric. Dye affinity of ZrC imbedded PET knitted fabric was less influenced by dyeing temperature and time than regular PET knitted one.
The purpose of this study is to prepare the hardness of polyester(PET) fabric by thermal bonding with low melting component of bicomponent fiber and to describe the change of physical properties of thermal bonded PET fabrics. The PET fabrics were prepared with regular PET fiber as warp and bicomponent fiber as weft. The bicomponent fiber of sheath-core type were composed with a regular PET core and low melting PET sheath. The thermal bonding of PET fabric was carried out in pin tenter from 120 to $195^{\circ}C$ temperature range for 60 seconds. In this study, we investigated the physical properties and melting behavior of PET fiber and the effect of the temperature of the pin tenter on the thermal bonding, mechanical properties. Melting peak of warp showed the thermal behavior of general PET fiber. However, melting peak of weft fiber(bicomponent fiber) showed the double melting peak. The thermal bonding of the PET fabric formed at about temperature of lower melting peak. The optimum thermal bonding conditions for PET fabrics was applied at $190{\sim}195^{\circ}C$ for 60seconds by pin tenter. On the other hand, the tensile strength of the PET fabric decreased with an increasing temperature of thermal bonding.
Stretch fabrics are wide-spread for high performance clothing use with requirements of fitness and adaptability to human's movement. A newly developed 100% PET high stretch fabric has excellent properties with respect to stretch, softness, bulkiness, and apparent volume compared to PET filament fabrics. The 100% PET high stretch fabric shows advantages of a dimensional stability, dye and agent adaptability in dying and finishing process, a property of stretch recovery after washing and lower production cost than that of spandex fabric. KES-FB was used to measure mechanical properties to various directions of the fabric. This study centered on whether the 100% PET high stretch fabric is suitable to quality and shape retention of fabric by testing several properties including tensile, compression, shear, bending and surface characteristic to various measuring directions. Tensile linearity showed maximum value at $0^{\circ}$ in plain and $90^{\circ}$ in twill. Shear Stiffness of plain and twill showed maximum value equally at $45^{\circ}\;and\;135^{\circ}$. Bending rigidity showed maximum value at $0^{\circ}$ in plain and $45^{\circ}$ twill. Mean deviation of MIU showed maximum value at $0^{\circ}\;and\;90^{\circ}$ in plain and $135^{\circ}$ in twill.
