PET bottles were composed of several different materials such as PET, HDPE, PVC and PP, it is necessary for recycling of PET bottles to precede seperation of each material. This study is purposed of recycling of PET bottles by separation using float and sink method. Pure PET is obtained a proportion of 94% on condition that bottle labels were removed by using tap water. In case the labels were attached on the bottles, PET was unable to obtain because of PVC and PET sink, and PP and HDPE float. Therefore, the labels should be removed before separation of PVC lebels substituted for PP or PE material. The various physical properties of recovered PET and HDPE were measured and compared with the original PET and HDPE, and it is identified that recycling is possible as a result.
Recycline of used plastics is rather restricted due to their variety and difficulties in their separation. In this study, a reliable and economical method for the separation of PVC which utilizes an appropriate control of surface chemistry of pariticles was suggested. this method consists of modification of PET surface from hydrophobic to hydrophilic by NaOH solution and subsequent separation by a froth flotation technique. Flotation results were in terms of NaOH concentration, digestion temperature and time, temperature and pH of solution, PVC concentration. They could be separated up to 95~100% by this method.
This study was used a thermogravimetric analyzer to determine thermal characteristics, a hair analysis system to examine morphological changes of wefts-human hair, poly vinyl chloride(PVC) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET)-used in manufacturing wigs. According to a flammability test on human hair and synthetic wefts for wigs, the best results were observed in human hair. According to a thermal test, PET was the best in terms of thermal stability. Also good tensile strength was observed as well. In a scanning electron microscope observation, no human hair scale layer was found because of chemical treatment. In the PVC sample, homogeneous unevenness was observed. Due to a lack of human hair supply and increase in its price, recently, PET weft has emerged as a great substitution for human hair. Because it can be curled using an electric curling device and is more efficient than the conventional non-flammable material PVC in terms of thermal resistance, it will become the next-generation weft for wigs.
A particle flow visualization, electrostatic charging measurement and separation of triboelectrically charged particles in the external electric field by a fluidized bed tribocharger are conducted for the removal of PVC particles from mixed waste plastics. The laboratory-scale triboelectrostatic separation system consists of the fluidized bed tribocharger, a separation chamber, a collection chamber and a controller. PVC and PET particles can be imparted negative and positive surface charges respectively due to the difference of triboelectric charging series between particles and particles in the fluidized bed tribocharger, and can be separated by passing them through an external electric field. To visualize these charged particles, He-Ne laser is used with cylindrical lenses to generate a sheet beam. In the charging measurement, the particle motion analysis system (PMAS), capable of determining particle velocity and diameter. is used to non-intrusively measure particle behavior in high strength electric field. The average charge-to-mass ratios of PVC and PET particles are $1.4\;and\;1.2{\mu}C/kg$, respectively. The highly concentrated PVC (91.9%) can be recovered with a yield of about 96.1% from the mixture of PVC and PET materials for a single-stage processing. The triboelectrostatic separation system using the fluidized tribocharger shows the potential to be an effective method for removing PVC from mixed plastics for waste plastic recycling.
The water-vapour transmission ratios (WVTR) of the various commercial polymer films have been investigated at the constant pressure and relative humidity (RH). Water proofnesses, the reciprocals of WVTR for the various samples, were determined using a cup device and maintaining the sample films at a constant temperature ($40{\pm}1^{\circ}C$) and a constant R. H ($90{\pm}2%$) for 24 hours. The following order of the relative proofness was observed; oriented polypropyrene (O.PP) > high density polyethylene (HDPE, Inflation) > high density polyethylene (HDPE. T-die) > casted polypropylene (C. PP) > nonoriented polyester (N. PET) > low density polyethylene (LDPE) > oriented polyester (O. PET) > rigid polyvinyl chloride (Rigid PVC) > semirigid polyvinyl chloride (Semirigid PVC) > nonrigid polyvinyl chloride (Nonrigid PVC) > oriented nylon (O. Nylon) > nonoriented nylon (N. Nylon). And water proofness order was also observed to decrease with the temperature rising; HDPE (T-die) > C. PP > O. PET > LDPE > O. Nylon. The activation energies of LDPE, HDPE (T-die), C. PP, O. PET and O.Nylon films were 12.0, 11.1, 11.4, 11.7, 14.1 kcal/mole, respectively. The WVTR's of the films were increased with the polarity of polymer and the addition of plasticizer in PVC, decreased with the increase of the film thickness and mechanical orientation. The WVTR's of the laminated films O. PP/LDPE, N.Nylon/LDPE, C.PP/LDPE were also more dependent on the film thickness than the WVTR's of the single films.
Waste plastics amount is more than 3.5 million tons and 30% of industrial waste in 1998, Korea but recycling rate of industrial waste plastics is quite low because the material separation technology from the mixed waste plastic powders is not commercially available so far. This study covers the triboelectrostatic separation of polyvinylchloride (PVC) materials collection chambers and controllers. PVC and PET powders can be imparted negative and positive surface charges, respectively, due to the difference of triboelectric charging series between particles and particles in the fluidized bed tribocharger, and can be separated by passing them through an external electric field. The extract content and yield of PVC separation from the mixed PVC and PET plastic powders are 90.0% and 98.2%, respectively. The electrostatic separation system using the fluidized bed tribocharger shows the potential to be an effective method for removing PVC materials from other mixed plastics.
The oxygen permeability and it's proofness of te various commercial polymer films have been investigated at the constant pressure and temperature. Oxygen proofness, the reciprocals of the oxygen permeability for the various samples, were determined by means of a coulometric oxygen permeability tester. The testing of sample films was performed at constant temperature $(23{\pm}1^{\circ}C)$ under 1 atm. for 24 hours. The order of the relative proofness observed are as follows; oriented Nylon (O. Nylon)> oriented Polyester (O. PET)>nonoriented Nylon (N. Nylon)>nonoriented Polyester (N.PET)> rigid Polyvinyl chloride (Rigid PVC)>semirigid Polyvinyl chloride (Semirigid PVC)> oriented Polypropylene (O. PP)>plasticized Polyvinyl chloride (P. PVC)> casted Polypropylene (C. PP)> low density Polyethylene (LDPE)>high density Polyethylene (HDPE, Inflation)> high density-polyethylene (HDPE, T-die) The oxygen proofness of the films was increased with the polarity cf polymer, the film thickness and mechanical orientation and decreased with the addition of plasticizer in PVC. For the use of wrapping materials, one film with the polar property in the main chain of the polymer molecule and the others with nonpolar property in it are laminated for the protection from oxygen and moisture.
The development of material separation technique for waste plastic recycling are the necessary situation restricted by law the reclamation and incineration of waste plastic after 2004, with enforcement of EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) system. As the this study is the research on the development of electrostatic separation techniques for recycling of life circles waste plastic by development of charging material and charger, the separation efficiency can be improved. Therefore, we developed the charger and electrostatic separator to increase charging efficiency and material separation per object plastics, rising these equipments, we removed PVC up to $99\%$ from two kinds of mixed plastics. And in case of restricting PVC content such as PET, we developed the separation technique that can remove PVC up to $99.99\%$ from PET with PET recovery about $80\%$. Automotive sub-mat carpet for convenience and comfort of floor administration is additional supplemented floor mat. Sub Mat Backing of the current vehicle's materials reclaimed rubber, PVC, etc. are used, but secondary rubber and PVC Backing have bad sound absorption. Also rubber is heavy too. Contact surfaces between PET staple fiber, PET non-woven, PVC backing and car's floor carpet was measured the coefficient of friction for each sub-mat's non-slip evaluation. A surface of PET non-woven sub-mat has the highest coefficient of friction. Each of sample was observed by optical microscope the contact surfaces before and after. Contact surfaces of PET staple fiber sub-mat was changed increasingly to non-woven. This fact is shown that the sub-mat would be tangled between its contact surface and top of the floor carpet. It is expected to be highly non-slip. In case of PET non-woven sub-mat had not different for contact surfaces between before and after. And PVC backing was shown lower non-slip than other samples. The result of optical microscope and coefficient of friction is seems to be related.
