Reductive dechlorination of tetrachloroethylene by bimetallic catalysts on hematite in the presence of hydrogen gas

  • Among the combination of 4 different second metals and 3 different noble metals, Ni 10%-Pd 1%/hematite (Ni(10)-Pd(1)/H) showed best tetrachloroethylene (PCE) removal (75.8%) and production of non-toxic products (39.8%) in closed batch reactors under an anaerobic condition. The effect of environmental factors (pH, contents of Ni and Pd in catalyst, and hydrogen gas concentration) on the reductive dechlorination of PCE by Pd-Ni/hematite catalysts was investigated. PCE was degraded less at the condition of Ni(5)/H (13.7%) than at the same condition with Ni(10)/H (20.6%). Removals of PCE were rarely influenced by the experimental condition of different Pd amounts (Pd(1)/H and Pd(3)/H). Acidic to neutral pH conditions were favorable to the degradation of PCE, compared to the alkaline condition (pH 10). Increasing Ni contents from 1 to 10% increased the PCE removal to 89.8% in 6 hr. However, the removal decreased to 74.2% at Ni content of 20%. Meanwhile, increasing Pd contents to 6% showed no difference in PCE removal at Pd content of more than 1%. Increasing H2 concentration increased the removal of PCE until 4% H2 which was maximumly applied in this study. Chlorinated products such as trichloroethylene, 1,1-dichloroethylene, cis-1,2-dichloroethylene, trans-1,2-dichloroethylene, and vinyl chloride were not observed while PCE was transformed to acetylene (24%), ethylene (5%), and ethane (11%) by Ni(10)-Pd(1)/H catalyst in 6hr.

Impact of conversion at time of minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy on perioperative and long-term outcomes: Review of the National Cancer Database

  • Backgrounds/Aims: Current literature presents limited data regarding outcomes following conversion at the time of minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy (MI-PD). Methods: The National Cancer Database was queried for patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy. Patients were stratified into three groups: MI-PD, converted to open pancreaticoduodenectomy (CO-PD), and open pancreaticoduodenectomy (O-PD). Multivariable modeling was applied to compare outcomes of MI-PD and CO-PD to those of O-PD. Results: Of 17,570 patients identified, 12.5%, 4.2%, and 83.4% underwent MI-PD, CO-PD, and O-PD, respectively. Robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (R-PD) resulted in a higher lymph node yield (n = 23.2 ± 12.2) even when requiring conversion (n = 22.4 ± 13.2, p < 0.001). Margin positivity was higher in the CO-PD group (26.6%) than in the MI-PD group (21.3%) and the O-PD (22.6%) group (p = 0.017). Length of stay was shorter in the MI-PD group (laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy 10.4 ± 8.6, R-PD 10.6 ± 8.8) and the robotic converted to open group (10.7 ± 6.4) than in the laparoscopic converted to open group (11.2 ± 9) and the O-PD group (11.5 ± 8.9) (p < 0.001). After adjusting for patient and tumor characteristics, both MI-PD (odds ratio = 1.40; p < 0.001) and CO-PD (odds ratio = 1.24; p = 0.020) were significantly associated with an increased likelihood of long-term survival. Conclusions: CO-PD does not negatively impact perioperative or oncologic outcomes.

팔당호 현장수를 이용한 남조류 Anabaena circinalis의 발아 및 성장 잠재력 시험 (Akinete Germination and Algal Growth Potential Test of Cyanobacterium Anabaena circinalis on Different Waters in Lake Paldang)

  • 본 연구는 2014년 9월과 2015년 3월에 채수한 팔당호 3지점의 현장수 (PD-1, PD-2 및 PD-3)를 이용하여 북한강에서 우점하는 A. circinalis의 휴면포자 발아 및 성장 잠재력을 평가하였다. 질소와 인 농도는 팔당댐앞 (PD-1)과 광동교 (PD-3)에 비교하여 금남리 (PD-2)에서 좀 더 높게 나타났다. 팔당호 3지점의 총질소에 대한 영양상태지수 (TSI)는 65~85의 범위로 나타났으며, 부영양 또는 과영양 상태로 평가되었다. 또한 총인에 대한 영양상태지수(TSI) 값은 49~68의 범위로서, 중영양 또는 부영양 상태로 평가되었다. 휴면포자 발아 잠재력은 영양염 농도가 높은 금남리 지점 (PD-2)에서 좀 더 높게 나타났으며, 영양세포 성장 잠재력도 영양염 농도가 높은 현장수에서 증가하였다.

  • Pd를 지지체에 담지시킨 촉매($Pd/AlF_3$, $Pd/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$)와 고체산촉매(${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$, $AlF_3$)를 제조한 후 수소분위기에서 HCFC-142b(1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane)의 탈염소반응을 수행하여 반응온도, 수소/HCFC-142b의 공급비(r) 및 Pd담지량 변화가 HFC-143a(1,1,1-trifluoroethane)와 HFC-152a(1,1-difluoroethane)로의 선택도에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 실험결과 $Pd/AlF_3$$Pd/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$촉매에 의한 전환율은 각각 60%와 92%였고, 생성가스 중에서 HFC-143a로의 선택도는 각각 58%와 64%였다. 이때 최적반응조건은 반응온도, $200^{\circ}C$, 공간시간 1.05s, 수소/HCFC-142b의 공급비가 3이었다. 한편, 동일 조건하에서 ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$, 그리고 $AlF_3$촉매에 의한 HCFC-142b의 생성가스로의 전환율은 각각 12%, 8%와 7%였고, 생성가스중 HFC-152a로의 선택도는 각각 94%, 92%와 90%였다.

The phenomenology of pain in Parkinson's disease

  • Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that is the second most common disorder after Alzheimer's disease. PD includes both "motor" and "non-motor" symptoms, one of which is pain. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of pain in patients with PD. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 250 patients diagnosed with PD, 70% of which had mild to moderate PD (stages 2/3 of Hoehn and Yahr scale). The average age was 67.4 years, and the average duration since PD diagnosis was 7.1 years. Relevant data collected from PD patients were obtained from their personal medical history. Results: The prevalence of pain was found to be high (82%), with most patients (79.2%) relating their pain to PD. Disease duration was correlated with the frequency of intense pain (R: 0.393; P < 0.05). PD pain is most frequently perceived as an electrical current (64%), and two pain varieties were most prevalent (2.60 ± 0.63). Our findings confirm links between pain, its evolution over time, its multi-modal character, the wide variety of symptoms of PD, and the female sex. Conclusions: Our results demonstrated that the pain felt by PD patients is mainly felt as an electrical current, which contrasts with other studies where the pain is described as burning and itching. Our classification is innovative because it is based on anatomy, whereas those of other authors were based on syndromes.

  • The facile synthesis of shape-controlled Pd nanoparticles (PdNPs) with ascorbic acid as a reducing agent and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a capping agent is presented in this study. The synthesized PdNPs were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman Spectroscopy. The prepared PdNPs show efficient surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) properties. SERS studies on the adsorption characteristics of 1,4-phenylene diisocyanide (1,4-PDI) on colloidal PdNPs have revealed that the relative peak intensity of the $(NC)_{free}$ and $(NC)_{bound}$ modes distinctly depends on the 1,4-PDI concentration as well as the shape of the PdNPs. Furthermore, we found that the PdNPs are also efficient photoelectron emitters such that the SERS spectrum of 4-nitrobenzenethiol (4-NBT) on PdNPs is readily converted to that of 4-aminobenzenethiol (4-ABT) under 632.8 nm radiation.

A Novel Anti-PD-L1 Antibody Exhibits Antitumor Effects on Multiple Myeloma in Murine Models via Antibody-Dependent Cellular Cytotoxicity

  • Multiple myeloma is a malignant cancer of plasma cells. Despite recent progress with immunomodulatory drugs and proteasome inhibitors, it remains an incurable disease that requires other strategies to overcome its recurrence and non-response. Based on the high expression levels of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) in human multiple myeloma isolated from bone marrow and the murine myeloma cell lines, NS-1 and MOPC-315, we propose PD-L1 molecule as a target of anti-multiple myeloma therapy. We developed a novel anti-PD-L1 antibody containing a murine immunoglobulin G subclass 2a (IgG2a) fragment crystallizable (Fc) domain that can induce antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity. The newly developed anti-PD-L1 antibody showed significant antitumor effects against multiple myeloma in mice subcutaneously, intraperitoneally, or intravenously inoculated with NS-1 and MOPC-315 cells. The anti-PD-L1 effects on multiple myeloma may be related to a decrease in the immunosuppressive myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), but there were no changes in the splenic MDSCs after combined treatment with lenalidomide and the anti-PD-L1 antibody. Interestingly, the newly developed anti-PD-L1 antibody can induce antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity in the myeloma cells, which differs from the existing anti-PD-L1 antibodies. Collectively, we have developed a new anti-PD-L1 antibody that binds to mouse and human PD-L1 and demonstrated the antitumor effects of the antibody in several syngeneic murine myeloma models. Thus, PD-L1 is a promising target to treat multiple myeloma, and the novel anti-PD-L1 antibody may be an effective anti-myeloma drug via antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity effects.

모의 방사성 폐액에서 아스코르빈산에 의한 Pd의 침전 분리 (Separation of Palladium Precipitate Formed by Ascorbic Acid in a Simulated Radioactive Liquid Waste)

  • 본 연구에서는 아스코르빈산을 이용하여 다성분계(Pd, Ru, Rh, Nd, Cs, Sr, Fe, Ni, Zr, Mo)의 모의고준위폐액 내에 있는 Pd의 침전 분리와 침전물의 특성이 조사되었다. 아스코르빈산의 금속이온들에 대한 환원특성을 이용하여 다성분계 모의폐액 내에 함유된 Pd을 선택적으로 침전 분리할 수 있었으며, 질산농도 0.5 M에서는 0.04 M의 아스코르빈산을 첨가함으로써 99.5% 이상의 Pd을 침전 분리시킬 수 있었다. 아스코르빈산에 의한 Pd 이온의 환원 반응은 질산농도가 중요한 역할을 하며, 질산농도가 증가할수록 Pd의 침전율은 감소하였다. 용액의 질산농도가 높고 아스코르빈산의 첨가량이 적은 경우 생성된 Pd 침전물은 평형에 도달하면서 재용해 현상이 나타났다. 생성된 Pd 침전물은 모의용액의 성분계와 관계없이 Pd금속 결정으로 형성되었으며, $1.0{\mu}m$ 이하의 입자가 응집된 형태로 나타났다.

청년들의 얼굴형태와 안경착용에 관한 연구 (A Study on Face Types and Glasses Wear of Young Peoples)

  • 만 20세에서 30세 사이의 남녀 100명을 대상으로 눈 크기를 측정하였고, 얼굴형과 안경착용에 관한 연구를 한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 전체적인 눈의 가로 크기는 2.4 mm 2명 이하(2%), 2.5-2.9 mm 40명(40%), 3.0-3.5 mm 57명(57%), 3.6 mm 1명(1%)이였다. 2. 전체적인 눈의 세로 크기는 1.1 mm 52명 이하(52%), 1.2-1.4 mm 28명(28%), 1.5-1.7 mm 18명(18%), 1.8 mm 2명 이상(2%)이였다. 3. 전체적인 얼굴형태는 타원형이 29명(29%), 둥근형 24명(24%), 각진형 18명(18%), 세모형 29명(29%)이였다. 4. 남자의 얼굴형태는 타원형이 16명(32%), 둥근형 5명(10%), 각진형 13명(26%), 세모형 16명(32%)이였다. 5. 여자의 얼굴형태는 타원형이 15명(30%), 둥근형 20명(40%), 각진형 6명(12%), 세모형 9명(18%)이였다. 6. 전체적으로 PD에 비해 FPD가 너무 큰 경우 49명(49%), 적당한 크기 25명(25%), PD에 비해 FPD가 너무 작은 경우 26명(26%)이였다. 7. 남자는 PD에 비해 FPD가 너무 큰 경우 14명(28%), 적당한 크기 18명(36%), PD에 비해 FPD가 너무 작은 경우 18명(32%)이였다. 8. 여자는 PD에 비해 FPD가 너무 큰 경우 22명(44%), 적당한 크기 13명(26%), PD에 비해 FPD가 너무 작은 경우 15명(30%)이였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터링법으로 CoNbZrPd 비정질 연자성 박막을 제조하여 Pd의 첨가 효과와 자장중 열처리에 의한 특성 변화에 대해 연구하였다. Pd가 4.34 at% 첨가된 $Co_{87.56}Nb_{6.45}Zr_{1.65}Pd_{4.34}$ 박막은 비정질 구조이며 Pd 첨가에 의해 보자력은 0.54 Oe으로 감소하였으며, 이방성 자계는 10.45 Oe로 Pd를 첨가하지 않은 CoNbZr 비정질 박막 보다 특성이 향상되었다. $Co_{87.56}Nb_{6.45}Zr_{1.65}Pd_{4.34}$ 비정질 박막은 $400^{\circ}C$까지 비정질 상을 유지하고 있지만, 연자기 특성이 열화되어 보자력이 증가하고 이방성자계가 급격히 감소하였지만, 포화 자화는 크게 변화지 않았다.
