Principal component analysis (PCA) is a well-known method for dimension reduction while maintaining most of the variation in data. Although PCA has been applied to many areas successfully, it is sensitive to outliers. Several variants of PCA have been proposed to resolve the problem and, among the variants, robust fuzzy PCA (RF-PCA) demonstrated promising results. RF-PCA uses fuzzy memberships to reduce the noise sensitivity. However, there are also problems in RF-PCA and the convergence property is one of them. RF-PCA uses two different objective functions to update memberships and principal components, which is the main reason of the lack of convergence property. The difference between two functions also slows the convergence and deteriorates the solutions of RF-PCA. In this paper, a variant of RF-PCA, called RF-PCA2, is proposed. RF-PCA2 uses an integrated objective function both for memberships and principal components. By using alternating optimization, RF-PCA2 is guaranteed to converge on a local optimum. Furthermore, RF-PCA2 converges faster than RF-PCA and the solutions found are more similar to the desired solutions than those of RF-PCA. Experimental results also support this.

Principal component analysis (PCA) is a well-known method for dimensionality reduction and feature extraction while maintaining most of the variation in data. Although PCA has been applied in many areas successfully, it is sensitive to outliers and only valid for Gaussian distributions. Several variants of PCA have been proposed to resolve noise sensitivity and, among the variants, improved robust fuzzy PCA (RF-PCA2) demonstrated promising results. RF-PCA, however, is still a linear algorithm that cannot accommodate non-Gaussian distributions. In this paper, a non-linear algorithm that combines RF-PCA2 and kernel PCA (K-PCA), called improved robust kernel fuzzy PCA (RKF-PCA2), is introduced. The kernel methods make it to accommodate non-Gaussian distributions. RKF-PCA2 inherits noise robustness from RF-PCA2 and non-linearity from K-PCA. RKF-PCA2 outperforms previous methods in handling non-Gaussian distributions in a noise robust way. Experimental results also support this.

Principal component analysis(PCA) is a multivariate technique falling under the general title of factor analysis. The purpose of PCA is to Identify the dependence structure behind a multivariate stochastic observation In order to obtain a compact description of it. In engineering field PCA is utilized mainly (or data compression and restoration. In this paper we propose a new robust Hebbian algorithm for robust PCA. This algorithm is based on a hyperbolic tangent function due to Hampel ef al.(1989) which is known to be robust in Statistics. We do two experiments to investigate the performance of the new robust Hebbian learning algorithm for robust PCA.
Principal component analysis (PCA) is the most widely used technique in dimension reduction, however, it is very sensitive to outliers. A robust version of PCA, called robust PCA, was suggested by two seminal papers by Candès et al. (2011) and Chandrasekaran et al. (2011). The robust PCA is an essential tool in the artificial intelligence such as background detection, face recognition, ranking, and collaborative filtering. Also, the robust PCA receives a lot of attention in statistics in addition to computer science. In this paper, we introduce recent algorithms for the robust PCA and give some illustrative examples.
In this paper, an efficient speaker identification based on robust vector quantizationprincipal component analysis (VQ-PCA) is proposed to solve the problems from outliers and high dimensionality of training feature vectors in speaker identification, Firstly, the proposed method partitions the data space into several disjoint regions by roust VQ based on M-estimation. Secondly, the robust PCA is obtained from the covariance matrix in each region. Finally, our method obtains the Gaussian Mixture model (GMM) for speaker from the transformed feature vectors with reduced dimension by the robust PCA in each region, Compared to the conventional GMM with diagonal covariance matrix, under the same performance, the proposed method gives faster results with less storage and, moreover, shows robust performance to outliers.
We have been building a text-independent speaker recognition system that is robust to unknown channel and noise environments. In this paper, we propose a linear transformation to obtain robust features. The transformation is optimized to maximize the distances between the Gaussian mixtures. We use rotation of the axes, to cope with the problem of scaling the transformation matrix. The proposed transformation is similar to PCA or LDA, but can achieve better result in some special cases where PCA and LDA can not work properly. We use YOHO database to evaluate the proposed method and compare the result with PCA and LDA. The results show that the proposed method outperforms all the baseline, PCA and LDA.

Reliable face recognition under various illumination environments is essential for successful commercialization. Feature-based face recognition relies on a good choice of feature vectors. Gabor feature vectors are known to be more robust to variations of pose and illumination than any other feature vectors so that they are popularly adopted for face recognition. However, they are not completely independent of illuminations. In this paper, we propose an illumination-robust face recognition method based on the Gabor feature vector illumination PCA model. We first construct the Gabor feature vector illumination PCA model where Gator feature vector space is rendered to be decomposed into two orthogonal illumination subspace and face identity subspace. Since the Gabor feature vectors obtained by projection into the face identity subspace are separated from illumination, the face recognition utilizing them becomes more robust to illumination. Through experiments, it is shown that the proposed face recognition based on Gabor feature vector illumination PCA model performs more reliably under various illumination and Pose environments.

In this paper, we propose a illumination-robust face recognition system using MCS-LBP and 2D-PCA algorithm. A binary pattern transform which has been used in the field of the face recognition and facial expression, has a characteristic of robust to illumination. Thus, this paper propose MCS-LBP which is more robust to illumination than previous LBP, and face recognition system fusing 2D-PCA algorithm. The performance evaluation of proposed system was performed by using various binary pattern images and well-known face recognition features such as PCA, LDA, 2D-PCA and ULBP histogram of gabor images. In the process of performance evaluation, we used a YaleB face database, an extended YaleB face database, and a CMU-PIE face database that are constructed under varying lighting condition, and the proposed system which consists of MCS-LBP image and 2D-PCA feature show the best recognition accuracy.

In this study, we compare the recognition performance using PCA and RBFNNs for introducing robust face recognition system to pose variations based on pose estimation. proposed face recognition system uses Honda/UCSD database for comparing recognition performance. Honda/UCSD database consists of 20 people, with 5 poses per person for a total of 500 face images. Extracted image consists of 5 poses using Multiple-Space PCA and each pose is performed by using (2D)2PCA for performing pose classification. Linear polynomial function is used as connection weight of RBFNNs Pattern Classifier and parameter coefficient is set by using Particle Swarm Optimization for model optimization. Proposed (2D)2PCA-based face pose classification performs recognition performance with PCA, (2D)2PCA and RBFNNs.

In this paper, we propose the face recognition method combining the ECSP preprocessing technique which is modified version of previous CS-LBP and the illumination-robust D2D-PCA feature. The performance evaluation of proposed method was carried out using various binary pattern operators and feature extraction algorithms such as well-known PCA and 2D-PCA on the Yale B database. As a results, the proposed method showed the best recognition accuracy compared to different approaches, and we confirmed that the proposed approach is robust to illumination variation.
