  • At most of the home or office, we have planted ornamental plants raised in pots, but it is difficult to follow because of busy life and lack of expertise in plants management. In this paper, we intend to design and implement a home network-based potted plants management system to solve the difficulty of plants management. To attain this end, firstly, we designed the structure of the plants management system, information flows and operation control flows. Secondly, we implemented the system based on designed results. Finally, we verified the implemented system through the functionality test for 10 items. In the results, it is expected that we can manage the potted plants efficiently than existing ornamental plant management systems and home network systems focusing appliances.

  • There is a vast field of application for RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) technology. In the case of hospitals, RFID can be used for organizing patient data. Generally, patient data has been handled with medical cards. In order to look up data about a patient, the medical card would have to be found first, within a lot of other medical cards, by hand or with a computer. This is a very inconvenient system. Also, if the card is searched by the name of the patient, fatal medical accidents may occur in cases of mix-ups. If remote RFID Tag monitoring systems are applied in this case, the patient data would be accessible in the hospital. This article will discuss the grafting of RFID systems and wireless data communicating technology. The EM4095 chip, which uses 125KHz carrier waves was used in this study. And a Bluetooth module was added for wireless data communication. The ATMEGA128 microcomputer was used to control the RFID system and wireless module. A LCD monitor was connected to the extension port for nurses to view patient data, and also, the same information was displayed on PC monitors for doctors to see. The circuit was designed to consume minimal amounts of electricity for portability, and to transmit Tag ID's in environments with a lot of noise. The article is concluded with a diagram of the whole system, and performance of each data transmitting section has been analyzed.

  • This paper investigates the factors to affect the consumer selection of machine-to-machine (M2M) technology in the purchase and utilization of home appliances. M2M technology, based on mobile internet, allows for automatic operation and remote control of home appliances and equipment. The introduction of M2M technology could lead to the saving of domestic housework and of active social participation for women. With a view to focusing on the liberating potential of M2M technology, this paper analyzes the correlation between four independent variables (gender, income, employment status of married woman, and possession of mobile internet devices) and two dependent variables (intention for purchase and utilization of M2M household appliances). The possession of mobile internet devices such as smart phone and tablet PC turns out to be the most significant factor to affect both the purchase and utilization of M2M household appliances. The employment status (employed or not-employed) affects only the intention for purchase. Neither the income level nor gender has significant correlation with the intention for purchase or utilization. The results differ from the conventional wisdom that the consumer selection of household technology is substantially affected by gender, income and employment of housewife.
