  • Recently, OSC (off-site construction) construction has been revitalized as a response to the decline in building quality and productivity due to lack of skilled manpower at construction sites, and PC (precast concrete) construction, a representative OSC construction, is insufficiently applied to public housing.This is the situation.In addition, in the case of general contents appearing in standard specifications, the construction standards for quality assurance remain in the 1990s and do not correspond to the current construction environment.In order to improve the quality of PC member joints, we compared and analyzed Korean and Japanese specifications to establish appropriate standards for PC construction quality control, focusing on the quality of grout used in joints.

  • Many of the domestic PC manufactures and professional PC repair shops are suffering from lack of efficient diagnostic database systems or CAD tools for diagnosis and repair of PCs. In order to solve this problem, a new diagnostic database system for PC maintenance and repair is presented in this paper. We can perform accurate and rapid diagnosis for the PCs with software and hardware troubles by using proposed database system and thus the number of customers who are satisfied with service results are to be increased. Furthermore our research outputs make it possible the experts in PC repair field accumulate maintenance techniques and enhance the reliability of performance evaluated by customers.

  • Green Frame is a method for Rahmen structure construction composed of composite PC members. The composite PC members of Green Frame which are based on in-situ production can reduce the construction cost and are more likely to secure quality when compared to production in factories. Previous studies developed forms for in-situ production of Green Frame composite PC members and proposed algorithms to arrange them on site. However, it requires not only their arrangement, but also calculation of an accurate production period to produce the required PC members in a limited space and supply them in a timely manner. In particular, it is necessary to clearly define the properties of detailed processes for in-situ production of PC members and to calculate the time required for respective process. To do so, this study is a basic research on calculating the time for in-situ production using a linear scheduling method.

구조공학에 이용되고 있는 PC와 부재 설계용 소프트웨어

  • 이 글에서는 PC가 구조공학에 이용되고 있는 분야를 살펴 보았고, 그중 특히 PC의 계산능력과 그래픽을 이용하여 구조설계시 자주 발생하는 문제를 해결하는 예를 고려해 보았다. 철근 콘크리트 예에서는 기둥의 해석 및 설계문제를, 강구조 예에서는 연결부의 조임재군이 편심 하중을 받는 문제를 각각 예시하였다. 여기에 든 예 외에도 이러한 구조 설계용의 PC용 소프트웨어는 얼마든지 개발될 수 있고 실제로 이와 같은 프로그램들은 설계사무소나 엔지니어링 회사에서 매우 유용하게 이용되고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 PC용의 이러한 소프트웨어는 설계과정을 단계적으로 전개시켜 나감으로써 학생이나 실무 엔지니어의 교육용으로도 개발되어질 수 있을 것이다. 또한 수백장의 숫자나 말 보다도 한장의 그림이 공학적인 의사전달에 더욱 큰 역할을 한다는 점을 감안한다면 PC가 더욱 구조공학 분야에 이용될 전망이고 그에 따르는 많은 소프트웨어들이 빠른 속도로 개발될 것으로 생각된다.

  • Large logistics centers are being built around the world. Most of these buildings have characteristics of long span and heavy load, and use PC (precast concrete) structure for quick construction. There have been few attempts to systematically analyze the various influencing factors of PC erection planning. In this study, we intend to analyze the influencing factors necessary for the creation of a sustainable PC erection planning algorithm.

  • As logistics facilities have a high ceiling height, simple structure, and the need for a quick return on investment, it is usually essential to advance the construction schedule of such facilities. Accordingly, PC structures, which require less labor, cost and schedule, can be more competitive than RC structures. However, most construction companies in Korea are familiar with RC structure design, have negative perceptions regarding PC structures, and do not sufficiently adopt new construction techniques. The structure that this research features has 110 columns that are 14 m high and are built to the same specification, and applying an RC design to the structure will lead to issues related to constructibility, economic viability, project duration and safety. Therefore, this study intends to feature PC design as an alternative to the RC warehouse design, and perform a comparative analysis of the reduction in labor, cost and construction schedule to highlight benefits. The research outcomes herein will provide inputs to subsequent studies on new construction strategies to advance the construction schedule, improve quality and constructibility, enhance safety and save costs.

  • Conventional apartment building projects have favored wall slab structure for the ease of construction and economic viability. However, wall slab structure, consisting of bearing walls, makes remodeling a difficult challenge. In addition, as the amendment to the Building Act in November, 2005 incentivized easy-to-remodel Rahmen structure design for apartment building in terms of floor area ratio and the number of stories, were are seeing more use of PC construct method in apartment building projects gradually. However, PC construction method requires complex connections between beams and columns, making it difficult to install and remove formwork. Furthermore, it is not possible to reuse forms after removal, generating lots of construction wastes, and it is necessary to install new forms again when the size of connection changes in line with modification of column cross-section. Researchers in Korea and elsewhere in the world have focused on structural performance of connection in PC construction method, with little attention to alternative approaches to improving connection forms for PC construction method. Accordingly, this research aims to study an approach to improving connection forms for PC construction method.

Shear Strength of Prestressed PC-CIP Composite Beams without Vertical Shear Reinforcements (수직전단보강이 없는 PS 콘크리트와 현장타설 콘크리트 합성보의 전단강도)

  • Currently, composite construction of prestressed Precast Concrete (PC) and Cast-In-Place (CIP) concrete with different concrete strengths are frequently used in the modular construction. However, current design codes do not clearly define shear design methods for such composite beams. In this present study, simply supported prestressed PC-CIP composite beams without vertical shear reinforcement or only with horizontal shear reinforcement were tested to evaluate the effect of prestressing on the shear strength and the shear design method for such composite members. The test variables were the area ratio of PC and CIP concretes, prestressing force, shear span-to-depth ratio, and shear reinforcement ratio. The results showed that the shear strength was increased by the increase of prestressing force and prestressed PC area, and the decrease of shear span-to-depth ratio.

Research of Residual Strain Calculation of Prestressed Concrete Beam Element (프리스트레스트 콘크리트 보 부재의 잔류변형 산정에 대한 연구)

  • To perform performance-based seismic design of buildings, it is necessary clear goal for usage and stability after an earthquake. To clear this goal, it requires a review of the constituent material of the building and, in particular, a member used as an indicator of the residual strain is useful. There are more usage of prestressed concrete because of prestressing steel witch has characteristics of the origin-oriented. In this study, the goal is estimating of residual strain on the prestressed concrete beam member. The expression for angle of deformed prestressed concrete beam member was obtained from using of curvature on the critical section and the equivalent plastic hinge length based on 'equivalent plastic hinge length method'. Considering the balance of strength and deformation conditions, suitable analysis values were derived from 'split Element Method'. Through various parametric studies, various factors affecting the residual strain were decided. Based on the results of this study, it is expected many researches will be proceed in the future.

A Study on the Applicability of Character Recognition Technology for Construction Supply Chain Management of Structural Steel Components and Precast Concrete Works (철골 및 PC 공사의 물류관리를 위한 문자 인식 기술의 적용성 검토)

  • As construction projects increase their complexity, variety, and scale, various recognition applications (such as RFID, bar-code etc.) have been tried for managing material effectively in construction projects. However, existing recognition applications for construction material management have some limitations that cause additional works (such as attaching RFID tag), additional cost (labor cost, recognition device cost, etc.), and cognitive impairment of workers. Therefore, this study proposed a character recognition technology as an alternative of previous recognition technologies such as RFID, bar-code, etc. The technical feasibility of proposed technology was validated by three recognition tests. Additionally, this study proposed code the structure to manage materials using the character recognition technology. The effects of character recognition technology are presented by comparing with existing RFID-based logistics processes.
