Heart beat interval measurement using an IBM PC (IBM PC를 이용한 심장 박동 간격의 측정)

  • This article develops a cost-effective and accurate measurement system for heart best intervals. The system is composed of an analog to digital (A/D) converter, an IBM personal computer (an 8088 microprocessor, an 8253-5 timer, an 8259A interrupt controller, and memories) and assembler programs for controlling these hardware components. An exponential smoothing algorithm effectively reduced noise effects from A/D converted electrocardiogram (ECG) signals influenced by 60 Hz alternating current (AC). The system can collect 15000 heart beat intervals with an 1/5400 second unit.

  • In this paper, we propose a context-aware power management (CPM) scheme using beacons to reduce the power consumption of personal computers (PCs). In the proposed CPM scheme, the PC, smartphone, control server, and Internet of Things (IoT) device are necessary. PC users first log in the control server using their smartphones and select PCs to turn on. Then, the selected PCs automatically go into three different modes, i.e., sleep, shutdown, and standby power off modes, in order when the PC users leave the PCs without turning off them. Further, we develop a testbed with the proposed CPM scheme using the Arduino with Bluetooth low energy (BLE) and relay modules. Finally, it is shown that the proposed CPM scheme outperforms the conventional scheme in terms of the power consumption.

  • Recently, microcomputer technology has been developed rapidly and it provides not only graphic user interface that can be fraendly accessable but also large storage capacity to han- dle much hospital information. Almost all the order communication system for hospital has been developed under the concept of host and terminal environment since last 20 years. However, host-terminal system has not been successful in korea simply because most of physicians prescibe for rrlany patients a day(sometimes more than 150 patients a day). Also, under the host-terminal environment, programs are not friendly implemented for users. Since March 1991, we had developed order communication system for out-patients(named YONSEI-PC) using personal computer(PC) and local area network(LAN) . Since September 1992, we has applied succesfully in the Yonsei Cardiovascular Center, Sevrance Hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine. This system consisted with Server and Clients which is communicated through LAN(Ethernet). The system also use the Host computer(IBM 9221 170) as a data bank and communicates to the Server with emulation card(3270 emulator, Interlink Inc., Korea) . After introducing this system, it enables patients to receive drugs witllin 20 minutes after prescription of 300-400 patients per day and it seemed to be effective system not to reduce waiting time for the patients but also to remove charge-troubling(due to His-entry of prescription) . This system also seems to be effective in terms of office automatism for hospital management. However users, usually physitions, required more friendly and easy system to operate and we thought that the most important one to successfully introduce order communication computer system in the hospital is user interface.

  • This paper describes a computer aided tool design system of deep drawing of cylindrical cups with or without flange by press. An approach to system is based on knowledge based system. The computer program has written in basic language with personal computer Knowledges for tool design are formulated from the plasticity theory, handbooks, experimental results and empirical knowhow of the field experts. The capabilities of developed system include 1) the selection of tool structure (with or without blank holder, single or double action, lift up or draw off type), 2) the design of tool elements(punch/holder, die/holder etc.) for the previous selected tool structure by the process planning output and the production quantity. The final output is generated in graphics form for design sheet.

  • Recently, robot plays an important role in factory automation and its use is rapidly increasing. In paticular, modern industry tends to need the robot to adjust itself swiftly to new workcell. But, robot is to be taught of operator through teaching box in order that it can carry out new tasks. In the process, interruption of the production line is frequent and so much time and expense are required. Computer Graphic Simulator(CGS) provides a useful tool to overcome such a problem. In this paper, CGS consists of teaching mode and execution mode. The 5-axis Rhino robot is modelled in IBM-PC/386 compatible 32-bit personal computer with 80387 co-processor and the simulator performs defined operations on the computer screen.

  • 인과관계적 추론 방법(causal reasoning)은 시스템 고장을 시스템 구조나 행동의 원인 상과관계를 사용하여 분류하는 것으로서 관측된 행도오가 기대행동의 차이를 조사하여 인식하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 징후(symptom)를 분석 및 분류할 때에 시스템의 기능적인 계층구조를 이용한다. 전문가시스템의 구축은 KAPPA-PC를 사용하였다. KAPPA-PC는 규칙 및 논리에 근거한 방법과 객체지향적 지식 표현 기법을 사용한다. 대다수의 사람들이 일상적으로 사용하는 PC(Personal Computer)는, 특히 하드웨어에서 고장이 일어났을 때 수리자의 노우하우(know-how)로 고쳐지는 경우가 대부분이다. 본 논문에서는 자주 일어날수 있는 PC의 하드웨어적 고장에 일반사용자들이 쉽게 접근해서 그 원인과 진단을 내릴 수 있도록 했으며 작은 고장 원인이 전체 시스템구조내에서 어떤 상관관계를 가지는지를 고찰하였다.

  • Proportional directional control valves (PDCVl adjust the amount of flow as well as flow direction in response to an electrical signal. This valves includes direct operated valves with or without spool position feedback. This paper investigates if it is possible to control pressure of fluids by means of the PDCV. A pressure signal is feed back to the Proportional-Integral (PI) controller, which is based upon a personal computer (PC). The PI control algorithm is implemented in a graphical programming language of LabVIEW. The results of experiments show the PDCV can be used a multi function valve of pressure control as well as direction control.

  • Recently, the robot control systems are required to be more flexible and intelligent in order to execute more complex and delicate tasks. As an approach to such system, a PC-based robot control system is presented in this paper. The axis controllers are independently designed for each joint of robot manipulator and are supervised by a personal computer. Therefore, the almost system program including the control algorithm can be easily developed and modified in the PC's environment. This proposed control system was successfully applied to 4 axis SCARA-type robot and the associated S/W modules were developed. We can construct sensory robot systems by simply connecting the sensing devices to the PC and the study on this now being progressed.

A LCA Case Study on Basic Materials of PC (PC 구성물질에 관한 LCA 사례연구)

  • In this paper, the life cycle assessment(LCA) methodology is applied to Personal Computer's basic materials in order to analyze the impact to the environment. LCA data collection is carried out taking into account on main materials of PC's parts and component. And the impact assessment is the environmental burden on three factor into air emission(CO2, SOx, NOx), five factor into water emission(BOD, COD, SS, N, P), and three factor on transported substance(cl, NH4, SO4). According to the result, the environmental burden of PC's basic materials was proved to be used total energy 6,285Mj and emitted CO2 259.8kg, SOx 3,571g, NOx 330g, COD 1,328g, P 246g, N 2,434g. And this paper was presented the problems of its disposition-incinerating, landfill, and recycling.

  • Structural analysis of large-scale structures involving large amount of computational load and data storage requires high-performance computing resources. We have previously developed PC-level distributed structural analysis algorithms based on substructuring technique where each personal computer assigned to a slave node has been involved in the computations for single substructures. Recently, it has been proved by the authors that the performance of distributed structural analysis algorithm can be further enhanced by changing substructuring schemes. Therefore a new distributed structural analysis algorithm with one PC to multiple substructures scheme is presented in this paper. The algorithm is implemented on the network of multiple personal computers and applied to structural analysis of two dimensional frame structures.
