Influence of the Duty Cycle on the Characteristics of Al2O3 Coatings Formed on the Al-1050 by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (Al-1050 위에 플라즈마 전해 산화법으로 형성된 Al2O3 피막 특성에 미치는 듀티사이클의 영향)

  • Oxide coatings were prepared on Al-1050 substrates by an environment-friendly plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process using an electrolytic solution of $Na_2SiO_3$ (8 g/L) and NaOH (3 g/L). The effects of three different duty cycles (20%, 40%, and 60%) and frequencies (50 Hz, 200 Hz, and 800 Hz) on the structure and micro-hardness of the oxide coatings were investigated. XRD analysis revealed that the oxides were mainly composed of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$, ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, and mullite. The proportion of each crystalline phase depended on various electrical parameters, such as duty cycle and frequency. SEM images indicated that the oxide coatings formed at a 60% duty cycle exhibited relatively coarser surfaces with larger pore sizes and sintering particles. However, the oxides prepared at a 20% duty cycle showed relatively smooth surfaces. The PEO treatment also resulted in a strong adhesion between the oxide coating and the substrate. The oxide coatings were found to improve the micro-hardness with the increase of duty cycle. The structural and physical properties of the oxide coatings were affected by the duty cycles.

  • Bone marrow stromal cells, a constituent of the niche for hematopoietic stem cells in bone marrow, provide various factors involved in the fate decision of the hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. Radiation, a widely used anti-cancer therapy, provokes side effects including the damage of the blood cells. Therefore, it is necessary to recover the blood cells shortly after radiation via promoting the differentiation of hematopoietic cells. In this study, we screened genes modulated by radiation in human bone marrow stromal cells in order to understand the mechanism involved in hematopoiesis after radiation. We performed differential display method by using polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and agarose gel electrophoresis. We found plasminogen activator inhibitor-1(PAI-1) was consistently induced by radiation. The significance of the PAI-1 gene modulation is to be determined.

4G/5G and A-844G Polymorphisms of Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 Associated with Glioblastoma in Iran - a Case-Control Study

  • Background: Glioblastoma is a highly aggressive and malignant brain tumor. Risk factors are largely unknown however, although several biomarkers have been identified which may support development, angiogenesis and invasion of tumor cells. One of these biomarkers is PAI-1.4G/5G and A-844G are two common polymorphisms in the gene promotor of PAI 1 that may be related to high transcription and expression of this gene. Studies have shown that the prevalence of the 4G and 844G allele is significantly higher in patients with some cancers and genetic disorders. Materials and Methods: We here assessed the association of 4G/5G and A-844G polymorphisms with glioblastoma cancer risk in Iranians in a case-control study. All 71 patients with clinically confirmed and 140 volunteers with no history and symptoms of glioblastoma as control group were screened for 4G/5G and A-844G polymorphisms of PAI-1, using ARMS-PCR. Genotype and allele frequencies of case and control groups were analyzed using the DeFinetti program. Results: Our results showed significant associations between 4G/5G (p=0.01824) and A-844G (p = 0.02012) polymorphisms of the PAI-1 gene with glioblastoma cancer risk in our Iranian population. Conclusions: The results of this study supporting an association of the PAI-1 4G/5G (p=0.01824) and A-844G (p = 0.02012) polymorphisms with increasing glioblastoma cancer risk in Iranian patients.

  • The authors studied clothing buying motive and clothing buying behavior. The date were obtained from 352 women college students living in Seoul and Taejon. As the result of factor analysis. four buying motive factors were found: fashion and individuality, economy, status, advertising and impulsive buying. Three buying behaviors(information using, clothing selection standard, and shop selection standard) were factor analyzed. Three factors were founded in information using: human, electric wave communication, advertising and observation factors. Four factors were found in clothing selection standard: utility, design, marketing, fashion and status. Two factors were found in shop selection standard: merchandise and service. Clothing buying motive and clothing buying behavior were related, and they were different according to the levels of spending money and major in college.

  • Recent domestic IoT (Internet Of Things) technologies and research is being actively conducted, it actually provides power control, heating control such services in the home or office. Depending on the interest of the IoT so as to provide convenient services to users also increased their users are increasingly questioning or wondering about the operation of IoT system. The system representing an easy to understand the operation of the IoT system is required in order to meet the requirements of those users.   • Aging our country is facing now is seeking qualitative and quantitative expansion of social welfare services. In particular, the rapid increase in the aging population is an urgent need to resolve the problems of inducing demand for medical care and various welfare related to the elderly, In addition, IT technology in Korea is improving daily, in particular, fields of ubiquitous have been studied actively. In this paper, U-Health Care System model technology for the elderly were studied. Existing residential and senior living environment dedicated to the Care system for the fusion of design, and content designed around the ubiquitous technology that combines the old Care system was studied. Existing community-based model that combines technology and IT systems and mobile elderly Care services in conjunction with other devices by providing an application, the existing Care and medical needs will be able to solve the problems.

  • The study is being conducted to ensure the transparency of research and development have identified the problems of the current system and improve the way out.
