남성 근로자의 복부지방두께와 adiponectin, BDNF 및 leptin의 관련성 (A Study on the Relationship between Adiponectin, BDNF and Leptin with Abdominal Fat Thickness in Male Workers)

  • 이 연구는 지방조직에서 분비되어 비만의 진행 조절에 관여하는 adiponectin과 leptin의 복부지방두께와의 관련성을 보고자 하였다. 연구대상자는 남성 근로자 138명으로 초음파를 이용하여 피하 및 내장지방두께를 측정하고 ELISA kit을 이용하여 adiponectin, BDNF 및 leptin의 농도를 측정하였다. 그 결과, 대상자의 평균피하지방과 내장지방두께는 $1.58{\pm}0.51$$4.52{\pm}1.44cm$이었다. Adiponectin, BDNF 및 leptine의 평균농도는 각각 $3.14{\pm}3.52$ ng/ml, $24.11{\pm}8.52$ pg/ml와 $4.27{\pm}2.38$ ng/ml이었다. 내장지방두께는 총 콜레스테롤, LDL-콜레스테롤, 중성지방 및 인슐린 농도와 양의 상관관계를 보였으나, HDL-콜레스테롤과는 음의 상관관계를 보였다. Adiponectin 농도는 HDL-콜레스테롤의 농도와 양의 상관관계를 보였고 총 콜레스테롤, LDL-콜레스테롤, 중성지방, 피하 및 내장지방두께와는 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 그러나 leptin의 농도는 adiponectin과 상반되는 결과를 보였다. Adiponectin의 농도는 비만하지 않은 대상자(BMI<25 $kg/m^2$)에서 유의하게 높았으나 leptin의 농도는 비만한 대상자((BMI>25 $kg/m^2$)에서 높았다. 비만과 adiponectin, BDNF 및 leptin의 관련성을 보기 위하여, 연령, 흡연 및 음주습관 등을 보정한 다음, 다중 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 비만은 adiponectin(교차비=0.784, p=0.006)과 leptin(교차비=1.493, p=0.001)이 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과는 adiponectin과 leptin의 농도가 복부지방에 영향을 주고, 이들 신경영양 물질들의 생성과 분비 기능저하는 궁극적으로 비만과 심혈관계 질환의 유발에 관여함을 보여준 결과라 판단된다.

Effects of Feeding Monensin in Combination with Zeranol Implants on Performance, Carcass Traits and Nutrient Digestibility of Growing Lambs

  • Thirty-six Naeimi ram lambs were equally and randomly allotted to four treatment groups with three replications per treatment to determine the simple and additive effects of monensin and zeranol on growth performance, carcass characteristics and nutrient digestibility. The treatment groups were: basal diet-fed lambs (C), monensin-fed lambs (M) where the basal diet was supplemented with 33 mg monensin per kilogram DM, lambs implanted with 12 mg zeranol (Z), and monensin-fed lambs implanted with zeranol (MZ). Lambs fed monensin-containing diet consumed 10.5% less (p<0.05) DM/100 kg weight and were 8.3% more (p<0.05) efficient in converting feed than lambs fed control diet. Zeranol implanted lambs tended to grow 35.2% (p<0.05) faster, consumed 5.1% more (p<0.05) feed and were (p<0.05) 21.9% more efficient in their feed conversion than control lambs. Responses of lambs to monensin and zeranol implants were not additive. Except for Z treatment, there were no marked differences in all carcass characteristics among the various treatment groups. Z-lambs produced 12.7% heavier (p<0.05) carcasses compared with those from C treatment. Also fat parameters, namely, kidney and pelvic fat (KP), body wall thickness and fat thickness, indicated trends for higher finish in Z treatment lambs (p<0.05) than for those lambs from other treatments. Except for CF and ADF, no significant differences in nutrients digestibility were noticed between various treatments; feeding monensin resulted in 24.5% and 8.5% depressions (p<0.05) in CF and ADF digestibility, respectively in comparison to C treatment. Nitrogen retention as percentage of total N-intakes was averaging 7.5 and 20.2% higher (p<0.05) in lambs implanted with zeranol than those fed the M and C diets, respectively.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effects of myofascial pain syndrome on shoulder pain, range of motion, and body composition around the shoulder in middle-aged women. Methods: A total of 72 women participated in the randomized controlled trial. The subjects were grouped into an experimental group (n=39) and a control group (n=33). The experimental group received a resistance exercise program using an elastic band for 8 weeks, 3 days a week. The control group followed a normal daily for 8 weeks. Measurements were conducted three times; before the experimental treatment (pre-test), the 2nd and 8th weeks after treatment. Results: Regarding the general characteristics and homogeneity of the dependent variables, there were no significant differences between the two groups, except for the thickness of the left and right muscles and the left fat. After treatment, shoulder pain was significantly different between the two groups (F=18.54, p<.001) and the range of shoulder motion was significantly different (left, F=86.70, p<.001; right, F=98.66, p<.001). Furthermore, there were a significant differences in the thickness of muscles between the two groups (left, F=40.20, p<.001; right, F=29.57, p<.001); however, the thickness of fat was not significantly different. Conclusion: The resistance exercise program reduces shoulder pain and improves the range of motion of the shoulder joint and increases muscle mass on around the shoulder. It suggests to conduct a study to confirm the long-term exercise effect.

활동강도에 따른 체지방분포 및 혈청지질 농도에 관한 연구 (A Study on Effect of Exercise - Training on Body Fat Distribution and Serum Lipids)

  • To investigate the effects of exercise-training on serum lipids, fat distribution and several parameters of body fatness(percent body fat, skinfolds thickness, body circumference) were assessed in 24 healthy male subjects submitted to an 8-wk high intensive exercise-training. Blood sample was taken twice, per and post exercise-training, Exercise-training took place 5 days a week and daily energy intake and expenditure were observed. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1) Through exercise-training body weight (changes : 1.1$\pm$1.1kg ; p=0.000) and percent body fat (changes : 2.4$\pm$1.3% ; p=0.000) decreased significantly . 2) Suprailiac was the most reduced site by exercise-training among eight site skinfolds. Central skinfolds were changed more by exercise-training than peripheral skinfolds with reduction of 1.7$\pm$1.7mm and 0.2$\pm$1.9mm. Central site circumferences were reduced more by exercise-training than peripheral site circumferences. 3) Total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were not significantly changed by exercise-training while only triglyceride decreased (changes : 20.7$\pm$44.8mg/dl ; p<0.05). Changes in body weight were grately related to changes in total cholesterol. Changes in deep abdominal adipose tissue were related to changes in triglyceride.

8주간 저항성 운동이 비만 여성의 신체 성분, 혈청 호르몬 및 섭식에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the 8-week Resistance Exercise on Body Composition, Serum Hormone Profiles and Feeding Patterns of Obese Females)

  • This study was designed to investigate the effects of 8-week resistance exercise by using dumbell on the body com-position, serum hormone profiles and feeding patterns in young and healthy female students with over 30% of body fat, aged 22 years in Masan, Korea. The subjects were all six, performed successfully the entire exercise-program. Anthropometry, serum lipid and neurohormone profiles of subjects were analyzed at 0, 4 and 8 weeks after exercise. And also their food and nutrient intakes were self-reported by 3-day record and food frequency questionnaire. Triceps skinfold-thickness of the subject students significantly reduced after the exercise to 46% less than before (p < 0.002) . The serum concentrations of leptin, insulin and catecholamine appeared to decrease steadily, but not significantly. Total protein in serum increased significantly (p<0.05), and Na (p<0.005), K (p<0.001) and Fe (p<0.058) concentrations increased remarkably within the normal range. The 8-week resistance exercise tended to induce fiber consumption (p<0.089) of subject students and changed the P/M/S ratio changed into the desirable way from 0.8 : 1 : 1 to 1 : 1 : 1, and that of n-6/n-3 PUPA from 11 : 1 to 6 : 1. After taking exercise, the intake frequency of cookies (p<0.058) and raymeun (p<0.085) decreased, but finally this feeding pattern returned to the way as before even though at marginal significance. Consequently the resistance exercise may induce the desirable changes of body fat and improve serum lipid profiles and feeding patterns in young obese females.

Relationship between body size traits and carcass traits with primal cuts yields in Hanwoo steers

  • Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the correlation between body size traits, carcass traits, and primal cuts in Hanwoo steers. Methods: Sixty-one beef carcasses were classified for conformation and primal cut weight. Additionally, carcass weight, fat thickness, carcass dimensions, and longissimus muscle area were determined to complement the grading. Results: The average live weight and cold carcass weight were 759 and 469 kg, respectively. The mean carcass meat, fat, and bone proportions were 551, 298, and 151 g/kg, respectively. Primal cuts weights showed significant positive correlations (p<0.001) of 0.42 to 0.82 with live weight, carcass weight, and longissimus muscle area and a significant negative correlation with carcass fat (without shank, -0.38 to -0.10). Primal cut weights were positively correlated (p<0.01) with carcass length (0.41 to 0.77), forequarter length (0.33 to 0.57), 6th lumbar vertebrae-heel length (0.33 to 0.59), 7th cervical vertebrae carcass breadth (0.35 to 0.58), 5th to 6th thoracic vertebrae breadth (0.36 to 0.65), 7th to 8th thoracic vertebrae girth (0.38 to 0.63), and coxae girth (0.34 to 0.56) and non-significantly related to cervical vertebrae length and coxae thickness. Conclusion: There was a high correlation among live weight, carcass weight, longissimus muscle area, carcass length, 7th cervical vertebrae carcass breadth, 5th to 6th thoracic vertebrae breadth, and 7th to 8th thoracic vertebrae girth of the primal cuts yield. The correlation between fat and primal cut yields was highly significant and negative. Carcass length and 7th to 8th thoracic vertebrae girth, appear to be the most important traits affecting primal cut yields.

Effect of Postmortem Metabolic Rate on Meat Color

  • The current study was conducted to evaluate carcass characteristics, objectives and sensory meat qualities of Hanwoo longissimus muscle as affected by ultimate pH. Twenty-four steers and bulls ($556{\pm}53$ kg and $0.63{\pm}0.32$cm for live weight and backfat thickness, respectively) were used. As there was a linear relationship (r = 0.77) between lean meat color and ultimate pH, cattles were thus segregated into normal $pH{\leq}5.8$, Normal, n = 13) and DFD (pH>5.8, n = 11) groups. Normal pH group had significantly (p<0.05) higher carcass weight, marbling score and backfat thickness than those for high pH group, while fat color and lean meat color were inverse. In principle component analysis for co-ordinates of DFD and normal meats, fat color, lean meat color, texture, time to pH 6.2 and pH at 24 h postmortem were associated with the positive range of the first factor (67.5%) while backfat thickness marbling score and temperature at 24 h were placed in negative values. The rate constant of decline in pH (pH k) did not differ between the two groups, implying that initial pH (i.e., pH at slaughtering) differed between two groups. Contour mapping of pH k between pH at 1 and 24 h postmortem indicated that high pH k was related to lower pHs at 1 and 24 h postmortem. This suggested that the high pH cattles (i.e., DFD cattle) resulted from their own potential. Although the time to reach pH 6.2 was significantly (p<0.05) shorter for normal meat (i.e., 3.2 h) than that for DFD one (i.e., 19.8 h), there were no significantly differences in both WB-shear force and sensory attributes. Given that the experimental animals were sampled from a similar group, which implies a similar myoglobin pigment content, the current data suggested that pre- and post-slaughter animal handling likely had a significant effect on ultimate pH and consequently meat color of Hanwoo longissimus muscle, and also small animals with lower marbling score and backfat thickness had a higher risk for DFD meat.

임신부의 체위와 체조성 및 임신의 결과 (Anthropometric and Body Compositional Measurements and Pregnancy Outcomes)

  • Anthropometric and body compositional changes and the outcomes of the pregnancies of 90 healthy Korean women were investigated in a longitudinal study. Their weight increased from 51.3$\pm$5.9kg to 65.1$\pm$7.8kg during their pregnancies. The total weight gain was 13.8$\pm$4.5kg, and therefore, weekly weight gain was 340$\pm$110g during the entire period of the pregnancy. The weight gain was composed of approximately 50-60% fat mass and 40-50% fat-free mass. Skinfold thicknesses, both of triceps and subscapular, increased during the pregnancies. The fat mass calculated from skinfold thickness and that measured with bioelectrical impedance analysis went on increasing during the pregnancies. Although there was a considerable difference with respect to the fat mass observed using the three methods, fat mass gain was 5.0-6.1kg and fat-free mass gain was 4.0-5.3kg from the first trimester to the third trimester of pregnancies. There were significant correlations between maternal anthropometric parameters and indices of pregnancy outcomes. Especially, the infant's birth weight was associated with maternal pre-pregnancy weight and weight gains during the pregnancies. The infant's birth length was related to the maternal weight observed at term(p<0.05) and weight gain during the entire pregnancies (p<0.05) . Neither increase of fat mass nor fat-free mass affected the outcomes of pregnancy. These results show that maternal weight gain during pregnancy is led by increments of approximately above 50% fat mass. The fat mass increase seems to be larger in central areas than in subcutaneous areas. Maternal weight gain during pregnancy, especially during late pregnancy, is a factor affecting the birth weight and length of infant. On the basis of the body compositional changes, it can be predicted that the additional energy requirement for pregnancy in Korean women is more than 200-230 MJ (64,500-76,250kca1). 의사결정나무분석기법을 이용한 계절별 한우육의 육색 특성에 미치는 요인분석 (Analysis of Factors for Seasonal Meat Color Characteristics in Hanwoo(Korean Cattle) Beef using Decision Tree Method)

  • 계절별로 도축된 한우육의 육색에 미치는 요인들을 구체적으로 분석하고자 2000년도에 도축된 한우의 pH, 성별, 등지방두께, 등심단면적, 도체중, 출하연령, 도체심부온도, 외기온도, 외기상대습도 요인이 육색에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 여름에는 L*값(명도)이 비거세우가 유의적으로 낮았던 것을 제외하고 모든 육색특성에서 유의적이지 않은 것으로 나타났으며 기타 계절에서는 모든 육색특성에서 거세우가 유의적으로 높은 값을 나타내었다. 또한 중회귀분석결과 모든 육색특성(L*, a*, C*, $h^0$)에서 pH가 증가할수록 그 값들은 감소하였으며, 등지방두께는 증가할수록 그 값들은 증가하였다. 각 요인별로 의사결정나무분석을 실시한 결과, 명도(L*)가 가장 높은 것은 봄과 가을에 도축한 암소와 거세우였으며 적색도(a*)는 가을에 도축한 한우중 pH가 5.63 미만이고 외기상대습도가 71.5% 이상인 경우인 것으로 나타났다. Chroma값(C*)은 여름과 가을에 도축하고 pH가 5.60 미만이면서 등지방두께가 8mm 이상인 한우가 가장 높았으며, hue angle($h^0$)은 봄, 여름, 가을에 도축하고 pH가 5.66 미만이며 등지방두께가 8mm 이상인 한우 중 심부온도가 4.7$^{\circ}C$ 미만인 것으로 나타났다.

신체계측값을 이용한 제주지역 여성들의 비만실태 조사연구 (A study of prevalence of obesity of female in Cheju using anthropometric measurements)

  • The purpose of this paper it to investigate the differences in prevalence of obesity and body fat distribution on the variances of age. Height, weight, skinfold thickness and girth circumference on about 422 women residing in Cheju, Korea were surveyed. The results of analysis of the survey are as follows : 1) All the antropometric measurements except height were shown to increase with age. Weight is at its highest level between the age of 50-59. The measurement of skinfold thickness and girth circumference between the ages of 20-39 of the female subjects are significantly higher than the above 40's. However, there is no significant difference among the middle aged women. 2) Physical indices tend to increase according to age. Both BMI and RBW of women in their 50's are at their highest values, however, the index values of the women in their 60's decreased slightly (p<0.05). On the contrary, there is no significant difference in the percentage of body fat and total body fat content among the middle aged women surveyed. 3) According to this survey, 15.6% of the 422 subjects are assessed as being obese ; more specifically 4.4% of women in their 20's, 12.6% in 30's, 25.6% in 40's, 22.5% in 50's and 17.3% in 60's. 4) 39.4% among obese women proved to be upper body type women. Because the frequency of upper body type women became higher as the obese women aged, there is possibility that the pattern of fat distribution can change. 5) Weight is the most highly correlated with BMI(r=0.91), whereas weight as correlated with RBW, percentage of BF and WHR are 0.8, 0.66 and 0.44 respectfully. The conclusion of this survey is that it is better to estimate the value of total body fat and percentage of body fat than the value of BMI in the analysis of prevalence of obesity and its related factors of middle aged women.
