Antimutagenic Activities of 24 Synthetic Flavones with The Salmonella Microsomal Assay

  • Twenty-four flavones were synthesized with various hydroxyl and/or methoxyl groups on A and B rings. Their antimutagenic properties were evaluated against ben:w(a)pyrene (BaP) and a pool of mutagenic urine concentrate (U) using a modified liquid incubation method of Ames test. The tester strain was Salmonella typhimurium TA98+S9 Mix. The antimutagenic activities were calculated by non linear regression analysis and the doses of flavones (in nmoles) required for a 50% reduction of induced revertants with BaP and U were defined as the inhibition doses (TEX>$ID_{508}{\;}and{\;}ID_{508}$ respectively). Seventeen flavones possessed significant antimutagenic activity against BaP. $ID_{508}$ ranged from 15.1 nmoles (F22) to 1000.6 nmoles (F13). Eighteen f1avones showed significant antimutagenic activity against U. $ID_{50U}$ ranged from 23.5 nmoles (F22) to 354.6 nmoles (F3). The 2',3',4'-trihydroxyflavone (F22, $ID_{508}=15.1$ nmoles, $ID_{50U}=23.5$ nmoles) and the 2',3',4',7-tetrahydroxyflavone (F20, $ID_{508}=37.8$ nmoles; $ID_{50U}=62.3$ nmoles) had antimutagenic activities similar to those of chlorophyllin ($ID_{508}=19.6$ nmoles and $ID_{50U}=44.2$ nmoles) and were evaluated against B(alP 7,8-dihydrodiol-9,10-epoxide. Against this last mutagen, the flavones which included three OH in B ring showed the highest activity and this property seemed independent of the substituent groups on A ring.

  • 유비쿼터스 환경에서는 프라이버시에 민감한 다양한 정보가 수집되고 이들이 통제되지 않은 채 배포될 수 있기 때문에 프라이버시 보호가 필수적이다. 유비쿼터스 환경에서 프라이버스 보안을 위해 사용되는 대표적인 방법론의 하나인 익명(anonymity) 기반 기법에서는, 사용자가 새로운 서비스 영역에 참여할 때 가명(pseudonym)을 사용할 수 있도록 하여, 사용자의 신분을 노출시키지 않도록 하는 방법이다. 이 방법은 사용자의 신분을 보호하는데는 효과적이지만, 친구 찾기 서비스, 위험지역경보, P2P통신 등 ID 기반의 서비스를 제공하기 어렵게 하는 단점이 있다. 이 논문에서는 익명기반의 프라이버스 보호 기법을 사용하는 유비쿼터스 환경에서 ID 기반의 서비스를 제공할 수 있도록 하는 시스템 구조를 제안한다.

PROJECTIVE REPRESENTATIONS OF A QUIVER WITH THREE VERTICES AND TWO EDGES AS R[x]-MODULES

  • In this paper we show that the projective properties of representations of a quiver $Q={\bullet}{\rightarrow}{\bullet}{\rightarrow}{\bullet}$ as left $R[x]$-modules. We show that if P is a projective left R-module then $0{\longrightarrow}0{\longrightarrow}P[x]$ is a projective representation of a quiver Q as $R[x]$-modules, but $P[x]{\longrightarrow}0{\longrightarrow}0$ is not a projective representation of a quiver Q as $R[x]$-modules, if $P{\neq}0$. And we show a representation $0{\longrightarrow}P[x]\longrightarrow^{id}P[x]$ of a quiver Q is a projective representation, if P is a projective left R-module, but $P[x]\longrightarrow^{id}P[x]{\longrightarrow}0$ is not a projective representation of a quiver Q as $R[x]$-modules, if $P{\neq}0$. Then we show a representation $P[x]\longrightarrow^{id}P[x]\longrightarrow^{id}P[x]$ of a quiver Q is a projective representation, if P is a projective left R-module.

A Retrospective Study on Canine Epilepsy: Etiological Distribution, Therapeutic Outcome, and Survival Time

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the etiological distribution, therapeutic outcome, and survival time in canine epilepsy. The medical records of 57 epileptic dogs were reviewed for the evaluation of etiological distribution. Among them, 27 dogs (47%) and 30 dogs (52%) had idiopathic epilepsy (IdE) and structural epilepsy (StE), respectively. Twenty-nine dogs (IdE: 16 dogs, StE: 13 dogs) were evaluated for therapeutic outcome and survival time. The incidence of generalized epileptic seizure (IdE, 56% vs. StE, 44%; P = 0.043) and the median seizure frequency at the time of first presentation (IdE, 2.0/month vs. StE, 13.3/month; P < 0.01) were significantly different between the two groups. Although pre-treatment seizure frequency and duration were not different, the median duration of seizure in the IdE group (0.5 min) was significantly shorter than that in the StE group (3 min) after treatment (P < 0.01). In addition, the median frequency of seizure was relatively lower in the IdE group (0.25/month) compared to the StE group (2.00/month) following antiepileptic therapy (P = 0.053). The median survival time of the IdE group (1.5 years [95% CI, 1.0-2.3 years]) was significantly longer than that of the StE group (0.4 year [95% CI, 0.2-1.3 years]) (P < 0.01). The information on etiological data and intracranial lesions may be useful for predicting treatment response and prognosis in epileptic dogs.

모바일 애드-혹 네트워크를 위한 노드 ID 기반 서비스 디스커버리 기법 (Node ID-based Service Discovery for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks)

  • 본 논문에서는 서비스 광고의 P2P 캐시 기법과 노드 ID를 기반으로 한 서비스 검색 기법을 혼합한 효율적인 서비스 디스커버리 기법을 제안한다. P2P 캐싱 광고 기법은 이웃 노드에 서비스 정보를 캐시 하기 때문에 빠르게 서비스 광고 정보를 확산시키며 서비스검색 평균 흡 수를 적게 한다. 또한 노드 ID를 기반으로 한 서비스 검색은 모든 이웃 노드에게 메시지를 브로드캐스트하지 않기 때문에 네트워크 부하를 감소시켜 네트워크 전송 지연이 거의 발생하지 않는다. 제안하는 기법은 중앙 서버나 저장소를 사용하지 않으며 많은 메시지를 생성하는 플러딩 방식도 사용하지 않는다. 실험 결과는 제안하는 방식이 전통적인 플러딩 방식과 비교하여 이웃 노드의 적절한 선택으로 많은 메시지 수를 줄이고 평균 탐색 거리를 줄임으로서 전체 네트워크 로드와 응답 시간을 향상시킴을 보인다.

Solution processed organic photodetector utilizing an interdiffused polymer/fullerene bilayer

  • Low dark current (off-current) and high photo current are both essential for a solution processed organic photodetector (OPD) to achieve high photo-responsivity. Currently, most OPDs utilize a bulk heterojunction (BHJ) photo-active layer that is prepared by the one-step deposition of a polymer:fullerene blend solution. However, the BHJ structure is the main cause of the high dark current in solution processed OPDs. It is revealed that the detectivity and spectral responsivity of the OPD can be improved by utilizing a photo-active layer consisting of an interdiffused polymer/fullerene bilayer (ID-BL). This ID-BL is prepared by the sequential solution deposition (SqD) of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and [6,6] phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) solutions. The ID-BL OPD is found to prevent undesirable electron injection from the hole collecting electrode to the ID-BL photo-active layer resulting in a reduced dark current in the ID-BL OPD. Based on dark current and external quantum efficiency (EQE) analysis, the detectivity of the ID-BL OPD is determined to be $7.60{\times}1011$ Jones at 620 nm. This value is 3.4 times higher than that of BHJ OPDs. Furthermore, compared to BHJ OPDs, the ID-BL OPD exhibited a more consistent spectral response in the range of 400 - 660 nm.

반도체 웨이퍼 ID 인식을 위한 다중템플릿형 영상분할 알고리즘 개발 (Development of a Multi-template type Image Segmentation Algorithm for the Recognition of Semiconductor Wafer ID)

  • This paper presents a method to segment semiconductor wafer ID on poor quality images. The method is based on multiple templates and normalized gray-level correlation (NGC) method. If the lighting condition is not so good and hence, we can not control the image quality, target image to be inspected presents poor quality ID and it is not easy to identify and then recognize the ID characters. Conventional several method to segment the interesting ID regions fails on the bad quality images. In this paper, we propose a multiple template method, which uses combinational relation of multiple templates from model templates to match several characters of the inspection images. To find out the optimal solution of multiple template model in ID regions, we introduce newly-developed snake algorithm. Experimental results using images from real FA environment are presented.

  • DHT를 적용한 구조적 P2P 시스템은 확장성이 우수하며 체계적인 검색 및 라우팅 수행으로 인한 높은 검색 효율성으로 인해 주목을 받고 있다. 그러나 이러한 장점에도 불구하고 공유파일 검색은 file-id의 정확한 일치를 통해서만 가능하며 키워드 검색을 지원하지 못함으로써 P2P 응용에 있어 커다란 걸림돌이 되고 있다. 본 논문은 DHT 기반의 구조적 P2P 시스템에서 공유파일의 컨텐츠 기반 키워드 추출 및 file-id를 생성하고 PLS의 확장을 통해 키워드 사전인 KID와 CKD를 작성하여 피어에서 키워드 검색을 지원하는 확장된 CAN 매커니즘을 제안한다.

난소화성 덱스트린의 섭취가 흰쥐의 장 기능 및 분변 성상에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Indigestible Dextrin on Large Intestinal Functions and Fecal States of Rats)

  • The effects of indigestible dextrin on serum lipid and glucose concentrations, large intestinal functions, feces states, and gastrointestinal transit time were studied with 90 male Sprague-Dawley rats. Diets contained 0.5% cellulose(0.5CL control), 10% cellulose(10CL), and 10% indigestible dextrin I (10ID-I), respectively and were fed to the rats for 3 weeks. Serum cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol concentrations were lower in rats fed the 10ID-I diet. Serum triglyceride concentration was lower in rats fed the 10CL diet. Cecal content and cecum weight significantly increased in the rats fed the 10ID- I diet. Cecal pH of the rats fed the 10ID-I diet was lower than that of the rats fed the 0.5CL diet. Changes of fecal output were not observed in case of 0.5CL and 10ID-I diets but a significant increase was observed in the case of 10CL. Gastrointestinal transit time of 10ID-I was the longest among the three diets. These results demonstrate that indigestible dextrin delivered to the cecum was not digested and increased the cecal mass. Indigestible dextrin improves colonic health of rats by inducing low pH of the cecum. (Korean J Nutrition 31(6) 991-998, 1998)

Microbial β-Galactosidase of Pediococcus pentosaceus ID-7: Isolation, Cloning, and Molecular Characterization

  • Pediococcus pentosaceus ID-7 was isolated from kimchi, a Korean fermented food, and it showed high activity for lactose hydrolysis. The ${\beta}$-galactosidase of P. pentosaceus ID-7 belongs to the GH2 group, which is composed of two distinct proteins. The heterodimeric LacLM type of ${\beta}$-galactosidase found in P. pentosaceus ID-7 consists of two genes partially overlapped, lacL and lacM encoding LacL (72.2 kDa) and LacM (35.4 kDa). In this study, Escherichia coli MM294 was used for the production of LacL, LacM, and LacLM. These three types of recombinant proteins were expressed, purified, and characterized. The specific activities of LacLM and LacL were 339 and 31 U/mg, respectively. However, activity was not detected with LacM alone. The optimal pH of LacLM and LacL was pH 7.5 and pH 7.0, and the optimal temperature of LacLM and LacL was $40^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$, respectively. The optimal temperature changes indicate that LacLM is able to achieve higher activity at a relatively lower temperature. LacLM was strongly activated by $Mg^{2+}$, $Mn^{2+}$, and $Zn^{2+}$, which was not true for LacL. Consistent with this, EDTA strongly inactivated LacLM and LacL, but the presence of reducing agents did not dramatically alter the activity. Taken together, multiple alignment of amino acid sequences and phylogenetic analysis results of LacL and LacM of P. pentosaceus ID-7 suggest the evolution of LacL into LacLM and that the use of divalent metal ions results in higher activity.
