해양 퇴적물의 혐기적 용출특성과 이에 미치는 산소발생제 CaO2의 영향에 대한 연구 (A Study on Anaerobic Release Characteristics of Marine Sediment and Effect of CaO2, an Oxygen Releasing Compound)

  • 실험실 규모의 모사 실험을 통하여 해양 부영양화를 촉진하는 퇴적물의 용출 특성을 연구하였다. 즉 pH, ORP, 질소성분, 인성분 등 주요 환경인자를 분석하고 그에 따른 용출율을 계산하였다. 또한 산소발생제인 과산화칼슘을 이용하여 자연적 용출의 제어효과를 분석하였다. 산소발생제 처리에 따라 호기적 조건으로의 퇴적토 환경변화가 일어났으며 COD, $NH_3$-N의 용출율이 감소하고 질산화 촉진으로 NOx 성분은 증가하였다. 총인과 인산염인도 Ca 이온의 불용화 기작에 의거 감소하였다. 이에 따라 퇴적토의 용출로 인한 해양 부영양화 억제 방법론을 정립하고자한다.

Electrochemical and Spectroelectrochemical Studies of Cobalt Salen and Salophen as Oxygen Reduction Catalysts

  • Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical studies of cobalt-Schiff (Co-SB) base complexes, Co(salen) [N-N'-bis(salicylaldehyde)-ethylenediimino cobalt(II)] and Co(salophen) [N-N'-bis(salicylaldehyde)-1,2-pheny-lenediimino cobalt(II)], have been c arried out to test them as oxygen reduction catalysts. Both compounds were found to form an adduct with oxygen and exhibit catalytic activities for oxygen reduction. Comparison of spec-tra obtained from electrooxidized complexes with those from Co-SB complexes equilibrated with oxygen in-dicates that the latter are consistent with the postulated complex formed with oxygen occupying the coaxial ligand position, namely, Co(III)-SB·O2 - .The catalysis of oxygen reduction is thus achieved by reducing Co(III) in the oxygen-Co-SB adduct, releasing the oxygen reduction product, e.g., O2 - ., from the Co(II)-SB complex.

남양호 퇴적물에서 영양염류 용출 특성 분석 (Sediment Release Rate of Nutrients from Namyang Reservoir)

  • 퇴적물로부터 용출되는 영양염류가 인공호수인 남양호의 수질에 미치는 영향을 예측하기 위하여, 실험실에서 퇴적물의 조건을 호기 및 혐기조건으로 설정한 후 영양염류의 용출속도를 측정하였다. 퇴적물로부터 유기물과 질소의 용출은 일어나지 않는 것으로 판단된다. 인산염 인과 총인의 경우 수체 내 산소조건에 따라 용출 양상이 달랐는데, 혐기조건에서는 인이 용출되지 않은 반면, 호기 조건에서는 많은 양의 인이 용출되었다. 실험 결과를 기초로 호기조건에서 인의 용출 속도를 계산한 결과 인산염 인의 경우 $1.01\sim2.48$ mg-P/$m^2$/day이며, 총인의 경우는 $2.14\sim3.54$ mg-P/$m^2$/day로 나타났다. 상류에서 채집한 퇴적물에서 인의 용출 속도가 가장 빨랐는데, 이는 유입수에 쉽게 분해 가능한 유기물이 다량 포함되어 있기 때문으로 사료된다. 남양호의 경우 가장 깊은 하류의 수심이 $7\sim14$ m로 성층화가 이루어지지 않기 때문에, 대부분의 퇴적물 환경이 호기성 상태이다. 본 연구의 결과 남양호 퇴적물 중에 포함된 인이 호기성 상태에서 다량 용출되고 있기 때문에 인의 용출에 의한 수질 오염 문제에 대한 적절한 대책이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

Effect of oyster shell powder on nitrogen releases from contaminated marine sediment

  • Nitrogen flux release from organically enriched sediments into overlying water, which may have significantly influence on water quality and increasing continuous eutrophication. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the remediation efficiency of oyster shell powder and its treated product into organically enriched sediment in terms of nitrogen flux, organic matter, chlorophyll-a, pH and dissolved oxygen (DO). The TOSP was mainly composed of CaO2. The application of TOSP into the sediment has increased the pH, DO and significantly decreased the concentrations of NH4+-N and T-N compared to other basins. On the other hand, nitrate was enriched with the addition of treated oyster powder, an oxygen releasing compound on both phases. Furthermore, chlorophyll-a was found to be increasing with time in the control basin meanwhile it dropped drastically with the addition of TOSP, which implied on the repression of algal growth owing to blockage of nitrogen source migrating from the sediment. This study has shown that the TOSP was effective to improve sediment-water quality, diminish eutrophication and control harmful algae blooms in a marine environment. Therefore, it is a good reference as an effective environmental remediation agent.

퇴적물의 영양염류 용출과 호기적 조건과의 상관성 분석 (Correlation of Releases of Nutrient Salts in Sediment with Vicinal Oxic Conditions)

  • The aim of this paper is to correlate the release characteristics of marine and lake sediment with their vicinal oxic conditions. We performed lab-scale simulation experiments using field sediment and water in order to compare the release concentrations and the release rates one another. To provide a few different kinds of oxic environments we used natural air flow and some oxygen releasing compounds such as $CaO_2$ and $MgO_2$. In case of phosphates, in each oxic condition, removal of phosphorus via biological activity and that via salt precipitation with the metal ions lowered the release rates. The behavior of the nitrogen-origin salts seemed to greatly depend on the typical biological actions - growth of biomass, nitrification, and partial denitrification. Generally speaking, the control of releases of $NH_3$-N, $PO_4$-P, T-N and T-P was successful under the oxic conditions meanwhile COD, nitrates and nitrites were difficult to reduce the releases into the bulk water because of the considerable microbial oxidation. Based on typical diffusive mass transfer kinetics the changes of concentrations of the nutrients were computed for qualitative and quantitative comparisons.

Transformation of dissolved organic matter in a constructed wetland: A molecular-level composition analysis using pyrolysis-gas chromatography mass spectrometry

  • This study investigated the transformation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in a free-water surface flow constructed wetland. Pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) coupled with preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (prep-HPLC) was used to analyze the compositions of biopolymers (polysaccharides, amino sugars, proteins, polyhydroxy aromatics, lipids and lignin) in DOM according to the molecular size at three sampling points of the water flow: inflow, midflow, and outflow. The prep-HPLC results verified the decomposition of DOM through the decrease in the number of peaks from three to one in the chromatograms of the sampling points. The Py-GC/MS results for the degradable peaks indicated that biopolymers relating to polysaccharides and proteins gradually biodegraded with the water flow. On the other hand, the recalcitrant organic fraction (the remaining peak) in the outflow showed a relatively high concentration of aromatic compounds. Therefore, the ecological processes in the constructed wetland caused DOM to become more aromatic and homogeneous. This indicated that the constructed wetland can be an effective buffer area for releasing biochemically stable DOM, which has less influence on biological water quality indicators, e.g., biochemical oxygen demand, into an aquatic ecosystem.

Schizandra chinensis Alkaloids Inhibit Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Inflammatory Responses in BV2 Microglial Cells

  • Schizandra chinensis (S. chinensis) exhibits a harmless, 'adaptogen-type' effect leading to improvements in mental performance and learning efficacy in brain. Activated microglia contributes to neuronal injury by releasing neurotoxic products, which make it important to regulate microglial activation to prevent further cytological as well as functional brain damage. However, the effect of S. chinensis on microglial activation has not been examined yet. We have investigated the effects of four compounds (Gomisin A, Gomisin N, Schizandrin and Schizandrol A) from S. chinensis on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced microglial activation. In this study, BV2 microglial cells were activated with LPS and the microglial activation was assessed by up-regulation of activation markers such as nitric oxide (NO), reactive oxygen species (ROS), and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). The results showed that all four compounds significantly reduced the intracellular level of ROS, the release of NO and MMP-9 as well as LPS-induced phosphorylation of ERK1/2. These results strongly suggested that S. chinensis may be useful to modulate inflammation-mediated brain damage by regulating microglial activation.

생물학적 처리에 따른 갯벌 복원을 위한 현장 적용성 연구 (A Field Research on Mud Flat Remediation by Biological Treatments)

  • 현장 갯벌에서의 미생물제제와 $CaO_2$처리를 통한 효율성을 관찰하고자 유용미생물 및 미생물과 $CaO_2$를 혼합하여 특수 처리한 제제를 $100m^2$ 크기의 각 처리구에 3.6kg씩 살포하여 6주간 모니터링 결과, 두 처리구로부터 pH 및 ORP는 평균 pH 7이하, ORP는 초기 값(-178 mV ~ -188 mV)에 비해 .121.06 mV ~ -142.06 mV로 다소 상승하였다. 강열감량과 COD의 경우, 큰 변화가 없었으며 질소와 인 계열은 다소 효과가 있었는데 암모니아는 시간이 경과함에 따라 대조구와 더불어 낮아지는 경향을 보였으며 질산성질소의 경우, $CaO_2$와 미생물제제의 혼합처리(11.3%)가 미생물제제 처리(7.3%)보다 질산염농도가 감소한 이유는 산소발생에 의한 어느 정도의 호기화된 조건에서 질산화반응에 의해 퇴적토의 질산염이 수층으로 용출된 결과로 생각되며 이에 따라 총 질소의 농도도 혼합처리에 의한 감소(6.1%)로 이어진 결과라 판단된다. 마찬가지로 인의 경우에도 초기 농도가 다소 높은 수치(T-P는 0.761 mg/g, $PO_4-P$는 0.529 mg/g)를 보였으나 혼합 처리구에서 T-P는 29%, $PO_4-P$는 31.8%의 감소율로 미생물제제보다 인의 용출을 억제시킨 결과로 나타났다.
