This study was undertaken to observe the histopathologic changes of the extraction wounds of diabetic rats when exposed to hyperbaric oxygen. A total of 50 rats (Spraque-Dawley strain) were used, which were all induced with diabetes using streptozotocin before the experiment. The experimental group was exposed to hyperbaric oxygen at 2.5atm. for 2 hours a day during the experimental period. The obtained results were summarized as follows : 1. Severe infiltration of inflammatory cells was observed in the initial stages of both the control and experimental groups. The infiltration showed a decreasing tendency at 3rd week in the experimental group, while severe inflammatory infiltration observed in the control group during the entire experimental period. 2. There was abundant proliferation of capillary blood vessels at 1st week after extraction in the experimental group, while moderate capillary growth in the control group was observed at 1st week after extraction. 3. Osteoblastic activity was started at 1st week after extraction in the experimental group, but there showed markedly delayed appearance in the control group, which showed at 2nd week after extraction. 4. The proliferation of fibroblasts showed rather in the experimental group at 1st week, but it was moderate in the control group at 1st week, 2nd week and 3rd week. 5. Epithelialization of the extraction wound was started at 2 days after extraction and reached its peak at 3rd week in the experimental group, while control group seemed to be delayed and incompleted during the experiment. With regard to these results, hyperbaric oxygen therapy disclosed an effective results on the healing of the extraction wound in diabetic rats under exposure at 2.5 atm for 2 hours daily.
GZO films prepared on ITO glasses were annealed at various temperatures in a vacuum condition to research the relationship between oxygen vacancies and optical properties. GZO films after annealing in a vacuum showed the various optical-chemical properties depending on the annealing temperatures and oxygen gas flow rate during the deposition. The oxygen vacancy of GZO film prepared by oxygen gas flows of 22 sccm increased with increasing the annealing temperatures, because of the extraction of oxygen by the annealing. But the intensity of photoluminance of GZO with 22 sccm decreased in accordance with the annealing temperature, because of the reduction of ionized charge carriers. The oxygen vacancy by the extraction of oxygen enhanced a depletion, so the widen depletion had the strong Schottky barrier and the PL intensity due to the low carrier density decreased.
NASA has a plan for the Artemis manned lunar mission in 2020. In 2030s, not only America but also other countries are considering to prepare for human to stay on the Moon at least for a month and necessary technology is currently being developed. With this plan, the mostly considered thing is lunar in-situ resource utilization. The most essential resources could be water and oxygen for sustain human life on the Moon. These resources are not supposed to be brought from the Earth, and it is economically sensible if they are obtained from the lunar surface. Because oxygen can be used as both oxidizer and propellent when a rocket departs from a lunar base directly to Mars, technology for extraction method of oxygen resource and its utilization has been being developed worldwide. This paper introduces oxygen distribution on the Moon and major oxygen extraction methods.

This study was undertaken to determine whether Juglandis Semen (JAS) extraction exerts protective effect against oxidant-induced inhibition of $Na^+$-pump activity in cerebral cortex. $Na^+$-pump activity was estimated by measuring ouabain-sensitive oxygen consumption. The oxygen consumption significantly inhibited by 1 mM t-butylhydroperoxide (tBHP), which was prevented by addition of 2% JAS extraction. The oxygen consumption was increased by an increase in $Na^+$ concentration from 5 to 100mM, $K^+$ concentration from 0.5 to 10 mM, and $Mg^{++}$ concentration from 0.2 to 5 mM. These changes in ion concentrations did not affect the inhibitory effct of tBHP and protective action of JAS on oxygen consumption. tBHP(1mM) produced a significant increase in lipid peroxidation in cerebral cortex, which was prevented by 2% JAS extraction. These result suggest that JAS exerts protective effect against tBHP-induced inhibition of $Na^+$-pump activity in the cerebral cortex, this effect may be due to by an antioxidant action.

Uranium ingot is produced by metallothermic reduction of uranium tetrafluoride using magnesium or calcium as reductant. Presence of oxygen containing compounds viz. uranyl fluoride and uranium oxide in the starting uranium fluoride has a significant effect on the firing time, final temperature of the charge, slag-metal separation and hence the metal recovery. As reported in the literature, the maximum tolerable limit for uranyl fluoride in the UF4 is 2.5 wt% and limit for uranium oxide content is in the range 2-3 wt%. No theoretical or experimental basis is available till date for these limits. Analyses have been carried out in this study to understand the effect of UO2F2 concentration in the starting fluoride on the final temperature of the products and thus the reduction characteristics. UF4 having uranyl fluoride concentration, less than as well as more than 2.5 wt%, have been investigated. Thermodynamic calculations have been carried out to arrive at a general expression for the final temperature attained by the products during calciothermic reduction of UF4. Finally, an upper limit for the oxygen containing impurities has been estimated using the CaO-CaF2 phase diagram.
Background: The objective of this study was to compare hemodynamic and recovery characteristics of total intravenous anesthesia using propofol target-controlled infusion (TCI) versus sevoflurane for extraction of four third molar teeth. Methods: One hundred patients undergoing extraction of four third molar teeth under general anesthesia were randomized to one of two groups. Group 1 received propofol TCI-oxygen for induction and propofol TCI-oxygen-air for maintenance. Group II received a propofol bolus of 2 mg/kg for induction and sevoflurane-oxygen-air for maintenance. Heart rate, mean arterial pressure (MAP), operating time, time to emergence, nausea and vomiting, and sedation and pain scores were measured in each group. Results: Demographic data, including age, gender, weight, and height, were not significantly different between the two groups. The MAP was significantly higher after intubation (P = 0.007) and injection of anesthesia (P = 0.004) in the propofol group than in the sevoflurane group, with significant reflex bradycardia (P = 0.028). The mean time to emergence from anesthesia using propofol was 25 s shorter than that of sevoflurane (P = 0.02). Postoperatively, the propofol group was less sedated than the sevoflurane group at 30 min (0.02 versus 0.12), but this difference was not significant (P = 0.065). Conclusion: Both propofol TCI and sevoflurane are good alternatives for induction and maintenance of anesthesia for short day-case surgery. However, propofol TCI does not blunt the hemodynamic response to sudden, severe stimuli as strongly as sevoflurane, and this limitation may be a cause for concern in patients with cardiac comorbidities.

This study reports the unusual complications of 22-year-old male who presented with sudden hearing loss after the right mandibular third molar extraction under local anesthesia with 3.6 ml of 2 % lidocaine. Total 8.75 mg of oral dexamethasone for 1 week immediately after extraction was prescribed in department of oral and maxillofacial surgery but hearing did not improve after 1 week. As referral to otolaryngology, total 600 mg of oral methylon and hyperbaric oxygen therapies were operated for 2 weeks. The hearing of patient was improved at 6 weeks after extraction but tinnitus was persisted even after 12 months. The reason and treatment were discussed with literature review, searching with the keywords ['hearing loss' AND ('dental' OR 'tooth extraction'OR'teeth extraction')] in PubMed and Google scholar at October 2019. Total five cases were reported after tooth extraction with local anesthesia. The sudden hearing loss could be associated with local anesthesia containing vasoconstrictors. Early steroid (extensive medication and intra-tympanic injection) and hyperbaric oxygen therapies were recommended within 2 weeks. As a proper treatment, hearing could be improved but other additional symptoms, such as tinnitus, dizziness, might be remained.

Newly bleaching sequence using oxygen, ozone and hydrogen peroxide has introduced to avoid pollution hazards from chlorinated organic compounds, because chlorine dioxide substitution bleaching was produced a little chlorinated organic substance. Oxygen-type chemicals replaced for chlorine has attracted much research attention. Bleachability of ozone was improved at low temperature and high pulp consistency. In third bleaching followed OZ bleaching, addition of O2 and NaBH4 in alkali extraction was effective than only alkali extraction. Bleachability of pulps in ozone bleaching(Z) was improved at higher consistency and lower temperature The addition O2 and NaBH4 in alkali extraction after OZ bleaching sequence improved brightness, when compared to those obtained by only alkaline extraction. Pulps bleached by ECF bleaching sequences such as OZEoD and OZEopD was obtained by 90% ISO brightness. The brightness of pulp bleached by TCF sequences with the ozone dosage of 1.6% was approached to target brightness (88~90%ISO). Pulps bleached Z stage combined bleaching sequence was reduced the viscosity to a little greater extent. However, physical properties of pulps was not great different compared to those bleached by conventional bleaching sequences. A pollution index of bleaching effluente by ozone combined bleaching sequences was lower than by conventional bleaching sequence, but somewhat higher than multistage bleaching sequences combined C/D stage.
Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze the different brain oxygen metabolism statuses in preeclampsia using magnetic resonance imaging and investigate the factors that affect cerebral oxygen metabolism in preeclampsia. Materials and Methods: Forty-nine women with preeclampsia (mean age 32.4 years; range, 18-44 years), 22 pregnant healthy controls (PHCs) (mean age 30.7 years; range, 23-40 years), and 40 non-pregnant healthy controls (NPHCs) (mean age 32.5 years; range, 20-42 years) were included in this study. Brain oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) values were computed using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) plus quantitative blood oxygen level-dependent magnitude-based OEF mapping (QSM + quantitative blood oxygen level-dependent imaging or QQ) obtained with a 1.5-T scanner. Voxel-based morphometry (VBM) was used to investigate the differences in OEF values in the brain regions among the groups. Results: Among the three groups, the average OEF values were significantly different in multiple brain areas, including the parahippocampus, multiple gyri of the frontal lobe, calcarine, cuneus, and precuneus (all P-values were less than 0.05, after correcting for multiple comparisons). The average OEF values of the preeclampsia group were higher than those of the PHC and NPHC groups. The bilateral superior frontal gyrus/bilateral medial superior frontal gyrus had the largest size of the aforementioned brain regions, and the OEF values in this area were 24.2 ± 4.6, 21.3 ± 2.4, and 20.6 ± 2.8 in the preeclampsia, PHC, and NPHC groups, respectively. In addition, the OEF values showed no significant differences between NPHC and PHC. Correlation analysis revealed that the OEF values of some brain regions (mainly involving the frontal, occipital, and temporal gyrus) were positively correlated with age, gestational week, body mass index, and mean blood pressure in the preeclampsia group (r = 0.361-0.812). Conclusion: Using whole-brain VBM analysis, we found that patients with preeclampsia had higher OEF values than controls.
Gelidium (G.) elegans is a red alga inhabiting intertidal areas of North East Asia. We examined anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects of G. elegans, depending on drying and extraction conditions, by determining reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) in 3T3-L1 and RAW 264.7 cells. Extraction yields of samples using hot air drying (HD) and far-infrared ray drying (FID) were significantly higher than those using natural air drying (ND). The 70% ethanol extracts showed the highest total phenol and flavonoid contents compared to other extracts (0, 30, and 50% ethanol) under tested drying conditions. The scavenging activity on 2,2-diphenyl- 1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and nitrite correlated with total phenol or flavonoid content in the extracts. The greatest DPPH scavenging effect was observed in 70% ethanol extract from FID and HD conditions. The production of ROS and NO in 3T3-L1 and macrophage cells greatly decreased with the 70% ethanol extraction derived from FID. This study suggests that 70% ethanol extraction of G. elegans dried by FID is the most optimal condition to obtain efficiently antioxidant compounds of G. elegans.
