  • A study was made to examine the electrical, compositional, structural and morphological properties of Ag thin films deposited by DC magnetron sputtering in $O_2$ atmosphere with deposition temperature from room temperature to 15$0^{\circ}C$ using in-line sputter system. The Ag films deposited at temperature above $100^{\circ}C$ in oxygen atmosphere gave a similar specific resistivity to and even lower oxygen content than those deposited using pure Ar sputter gas The Ag films deposited with pure Ar gas was mainly composed of crystallites with [111] preferred orientation, while, for those deposited in oxygen atmosphere, more than 50% of the volume was composed of crystallites with [100] orientation. The difference in the micro structure did not cause any difference in the specific resistivity of Ag films. The results showed that the transparent conducting oxide films and the Ag films could be processed sequentially in the same deposition chamber with careful control of deposition temperature, which might result in a cost reduction for constructing the large scale in-line deposition system.

  • Gas permeation and separation characteristics of ozone treated polysulfone (PSF) membranes were investigated. The PSF is one of the most widely used commercial membranes. Ozone treatment of the PSF membrane was performed for certain hours by continuously supplying 5 vol.% ozone-containing oxygen to the chamber, in which the membrane samples were charged. The permselectivity of PSF increased with ozone treatment time, and it was found that one and half hour was enough to ozone treatment. Increase in the selectivity of the membrane for He/$N_2$, HY$N_2$, O:J$N_2$, COJ$CH_4$ by ozone treatment was found to be due to decrease in the permeability of gases with larger molecular size such as $N_2$ and $CH_4$ The decrease in the permeability of gases with smaller molecular size was negligible. The increase in the selectivities of the PSF by ozone treatment would be due to decrease in the free volume of the polymer because of the oxygen complexes generated by the reaction between ozone and the polymer.

  • MOV(Main Oxidizer shut-off Valves) control the combustion of launch vehicle systems by the supply and the isolation of liquid oxygen to a main combustion chamber in launch vehicle systems. Moreover, in the steady operational state, the MOV should secure a constant flow rate of liquid oxygen for combustion instability in the combustion chamber. Concerning the development of MOV, TM(Technology Model) has been manufactured and normal operations of the valve have been verified. However, the Cv of TM has been proved to be too low as compared with a design specification value. Therefore, CFD analysis have been performed by modification of the configurations of TM in order to increase sufficiently Cv of EM(Engineering Model), which is the following model of TM. The modifications of TM configurations such as partial scale-up of valve, increase of stroke length, and outlet angle of 120o would result in a considerable augmentation of Cv. It has been verified by flow capacity tests that the improved Cv of EM is min. 212, which is higher than Cv of TM, 161 by about 32%.

  • Experimental studies were performed to observe the difference in tolerance of small animals to oxygen poisoning, and also to examine the effects of certain drug for it. The three experimental groups consisted of mature rat group, immature rat group and mouse group. The animals were exposed to 5 atm. of 100% oxygen using hyperbaric chamber, and they were observed for oxygen poisoning by pulmonary and central nervous system manifestation. The tolerance to oxygen poisoning was represented by half fatality time in each experimental group. The drug applied was ammonium chloride $NH_4Cl$ and it was administered intraperitoneally in various dosages for particular attribution of its prophylactic effect. The following conclusions were made; 1. The immature rat group showed the higher degree of tolerance to oxygen poisoning, as evidenced by a more prolonged half fatality time in the group. No significant difference in the half fatality time between the mature rat and the mouse group was observed. 2. The fact that the immature group showed the higher degree of tolerance as compared with the mature rat group represented by delayed onset of convulsion. 3. There was a remarkable difference in the Lung Weight/Body Weight ratio between the experimental and control group. 4. The animals with a shorter half fatality time uniformally displayed an earlier onset of convulsive seizure as the sign of oxygen poisoning and a significant elevated Lung Weight/Body Weight ratio. 5. Ammonium chloride at the dosage of 450mg per kg body weight had the most pronounced prophylactic effect on oxygen poisoning.

  • The sprinkler system is a basic fire extinguishing system widely used, but there is a lack of quantitative assessment of its performance. In this study, to evaluate the fire extinguishing performance of the sprinkler head according to the discharge coefficients, experiments were conducted. Experimental sprinkler heads were selected with heads having K50, K80 and K115 water discharge coefficients, and the fire source was assumed to be an indoor fire in Class A Model 1. As experimental results, the time required for the fire chamber to cool down to $200^{\circ}C$ was 26 seconds for the K115 head, 414 seconds for the K80 head, and 481 seconds for the K50 head, so the cooling time of the K115 head was decreased by 94.5% compared to K50 head. In the case of restoring the oxygen concentration to 15%, the K115 head did not decrease below the oxygen concentration of 15%, and the K80 head took 145 seconds and the K50 head took 484 seconds. The lowest oxygen concentration in the fire chamber was 16.1% for the K115 head, 14.33% for the K80 head, and 11.28% for the K50 head, indicating that the K115 head was superior to the K80 and K50 heads by 13.1% and 43.7%, respectively. As the experimental results show, there is big difference in the extinguishing performance depending on the discharge coefficients of the sprinkler head. Therefore, in designing the sprinkler system, the discharge coefficients of the sprinkler head should be selected considering the heat release rate at the installation site and the fire extinguishing characteristics of sprinkler head.

  • Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a functional material with interesting optical and electrical properties, a wide band gap (more than 3.3 eV), a high transmittance in the visible light region, piezoelectric properties, and a high n-type conductivity. This material has been investigated for use in many applications, such as transparent electrodes, blue light-emitting diodes, and ultra-violet detector. ZnO films grown under low oxygen pressure by thin film deposition methods show low resistivity and large free electron concentration. Therefore, reducing the background carrier concentration in ZnO films is one of the major challenges ahead of realizing high-performance ZnO-based optoelectronic devices. In this study, we deposited ZnO thin films on sapphire substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) with employing an oxygen plasma source to decrease the background free-electron concentration and enhance the crystalline quality. Then, the substrate temperature was varied between 200 'C to 900 'C The vacuum chamber was initially evacuated to a pressure of $10^{-6}$ Torr, and then a pure $O_2$ gas was introduced into the chamber and the pressure during deposition was maintained at $10^{-2}$ Torr. Crystallinity and orientation of ZnO films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The film surface was analyzed with atomic force microscope (AFM). And electrical properties were measured at room temperature by Hall measurement.

  • This study was to present the preferred and the suggested indoor temperature of college students in winter based on their body composition. A total of 14 subjects(6 males and 8 females) participated in this study. They sat in a climatic chamber controlled at $24^{\circ}C$ wearing experimental garments(0.7clo). The air temperature decreased $1^{\circ}C$ every 15 minutes until it reached $19^{\circ}C$. After the stepwise temperature change, subjects were asked to select a comfortable air temperature by dialing the temperature control switch inside the chamber. The preferred temperature was determined when subjects did not change the air temperature for 10 minutes. The measurements were oxygen consumption, rectal temperature, skin temperature, and subjective sensation. Main results are as follows. In a mild cold condition, females demonstrated lower oxygen consumption and mean skin temperature than males while keeping a constant rectal temperature. Females increased rectal temperature and decreased mean skin temperature greater than males from $24^{\circ}C$ to $19^{\circ}C$. Males showed larger oxygen consumption increase than females. It appears that the thermo-physiological responses in a mild cold condition might be different between males and females. The preferred winter indoor temperature was $22.3^{\circ}C$ for males and $23.4^{\circ}C$ for females, and the suggested temperature was $21^{\circ}C$ for males and $23^{\circ}C$ for females.

  • Objectives: The objective of this study is to assess relative safety level of the decompression tables in Ministry of Employment and Labor Public Notice No. 2014-28 in comparison with overseas decompression tables. Methods: Decompression tables in the Public Notice No. 2014-28 were compared with examples from Japan, the USA, Canada, and France in terms of ascent rate, surface intervals after exceptional exposures, oxygen decompression and allowable partial pressure, depth limits in air diving, no-decompression limits, and decompression time and methods. Results: Public Notice No. 2014-28 does not include air diving depth limits, exceptional exposure limits, mandatory surface intervals after exceptional exposures, oxygen decompression, and surface decompression schedules. Its decompression time was found to be the shortest among the five decompression tables. Conclusions: Public Notice No. 2014-28 has the lowest safety level in comparison with overseas decompression tables. Deck decompression chambers are not applicable due to no regulations on surface interval and oxygen use in the chamber for decompression.

  • ZnO films have been deposited on oxide grown Si wafers by the conventional thermal evaporation method. Anhydrous zinc acetate was directly heated and sublimed in the laboratory-made brass boat. The substrates temperature varied from $200^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$. Oxygen has been flowed into the deposition chamber to change the partial pressure of oxygen. The films deposited at high oxygen pressure exhibited higher resistivity than films at low pressure. X-Ray Diffraction(XRD), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy(EDS) and Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS) were conducted on the films to reveal the crystallinity and composition of the ZnO films. The ZnO films deposited at high oxygen pressure were extremly sensitive to the humidity of higher than 70 % RH.

  • Experimental studies on determination of the supply leading time of propellants to combustion chamber have been made to stably and efficiently guarantee the ignitions process with liquid rocket engine. The propellant used is a Kerosene as fuel and a liquid oxygen as oxidizer. FOOF type of three injectors are set with an angle of 135。 and the combustion chamber pressure is 200psi. The present experiment program also includes the stability on the quadlet type of ignitor using the triehylaluminum (TEAL) as an ignition source. Experimental results clarifies that the propellant supply through LOx leading to combustion chamber is proper for stable ignition and combustion processes based on the fuel and oxidizer manifold pressures, combustion chamber pressure, and the variation of flame length from the nozzle exit with lapse time, and shows that the leading supply time pf propellants effects the engine performance little.
