Effects on the sintering of zircon by minor additives such as $Al_2O_3$, MgO and CaO were studied at $1450^{\circ}C$~$1550^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. Shrinkage, compressive strength, bulk density and apparent porosity of sintered specimens were measured in relation to content of minor additives and temperature. Mineral constitutions of the sintered specimens were idenified with X-ray diffractometer. And microstructures of the sintered specimens were observed by scanning electron microscope. The results obtained were as follow. 1) Effect ofthe minor additives such as Al2O3, MgO and CaO on the sintering of zircon was related to reaction between added oxide and silica by dissociation of zircon. 2) Zircon did not dissociate at $1550^{\circ}C$, but it did slightly on the specimen added by Al2O3 5 wt% at $1550^{\circ}C$. 3) Sintering of zircon was promoted by the addition of MgO, $(Al_2O_3+CaO)$ and (MgO+CaO), then, this phenomenon was due to the formation of liquid phase.
The effects of Sr and (Ti-B) additives on the impact and fatigue properties of recycled (35% scrap content) AC4A aluminum alloy are investigated here. The acicular morphology of the eutectic Si phase of as-cast specimens was converted to the fibrous one with Sr additives. The grain size of the α-solid solution decreased by the addition of (Ti-B) additives. The crack initiation energy (Ei) of the impact absorption energy decreased due to the incorporation of an oxide film and inclusions depending on the scrap used. The modification of the eutectic Si morphology by Sr additives is considered as the main factor of the increase of the average impact absorption energy (Et). The addition of (Ti-B) additives contributed to an increase in the occurrence of crack deflections due to the refining of α-Al grains, resulting in improved fatigue properties.

[ $M/Fe_2O_3$ ] (M=Rh, Ce and Zr) mixed oxides were prepared using urea method to develop a medium for chemical hydrogen storage by their redox cycles. And their redox behaviors by repeated cycles were studied using temperature programmed reaction(TPR) technique. Additives such as Rh, Ce and Zr were added to iron oxides in order to lower the reaction temperature for reduction by hydrogen and re-oxidation by water-splitting. From the results, concentration of urea used as a precipitant had little effect on particle size and reduction property of iron oxide. TPR patterns of iron oxide consisted of two reduction peaks due to the course of $Fe_2O_3\;{\rightarrow}\;Fe_3O_4\;{\rightarrow}\;Fe$. The results of repeated redox tests showed that Rh added to iron oxide have an effect on lowering the re-oxidation temperature by water-splitting. Meanwhile, Ce and Zr additives played an important role in prevention of deactivation by repeated cycles. Finally, Fe-oxide(Rh, Ce, Zr) sample added with Rh, Ce and Zr showed the lowest re-oxidation temperature by water-splitting and maintained high $H_2$ recovery in spite of the repeated redox cycles. Consequently, it is expected that Fe-oxide(Rh, Ce, Zr) sample can be a feasible medium for chemical hydrogen storage using redox cycle of iron oxide.
Using a small amount of additives and amorphous Si₂N₂O powders, O-SiAlON ceramics have been hot-pressed and its microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated. Scandium oxide was demonstrated to be an effective densification additive for O-SiAlON. Amorphous Si₂N₂O was densified at relatively low temperatures and a microstructure with acicular grains was developed. Fine grains found in materials obtained from amorphous powders suggest that nucleation and crystallization of O-SiAlOH is relatively easy compared with the Si₃N₄-SiO₂reaction.

Effects of additives and plating conditions of high speed electroplating were investigated. The Sn content in electrodeposit was highly decreased with increasing current density from $10A/dm^2$ to $50A/dm^2$, and the current efficiency on the cathode was decreased. The carbon content in the electrodeposit was decreased with increasing current density from $10A/dm^2$ to $30A/dm^2$, however the carbon content was highly increased in the range of $40A/dm^2$$∼50A/dm^2$. The formation of tetravalent tin and stannic oxide sludge was prevented by the addition of gallic acid in the bath. The changing of Sn content in the electrodeposit is caused by the addition of gallic acid.
In this study, effects of oxide additives on mechanical properties and microstructure of A1N and A1N polytype ceramics were investigated. Fine A1N powder was synthesized by nitriding alumiuim hydroxide prepared from Al-isopropoxide, at 1350$^{\circ}C$ for 10h in N2 atmosphere. By adding 3w/o Y2O3, 0.56w/o CaO, and 10w/o SiO2 to AlN powder, AlN and AlN polytype ceramics were prepared by hot-pressing under the pressure of 30 MPa at 1800$^{\circ}C$ for 1h. AlN ceramics with no additives formed considerable amount of AlON phase, while AlN ceramics doped with Y2O3 or CaO decreased AlON phase and formed Y-Al or Ca-Al oxide compound. AlN+10w/o SiO2(+3w/o Y2O3) composition produced AlON and AlN polytype compound having 21R as a major phase. Room temperature flexural strength of AlN ceramics with no additive was 246MPa, and room temperature flexural strength and critical temperature difference by thermal shock(ΔTc) of AlN ceramics dooped with Y2O3 or CaO were 532MPa/340$^{\circ}C$ and 423MPa/300$^{\circ}C$, respectively. Y2O3 and CaO used as sintering agent played roles of densification and oxygen removal of AlN ceramics, and affected grain growth/grain morphologies of AlN ceramics.
Sintering of alumina powder was studied in the presence of Y-Si oxide and oxynitride additives. The main crystalline phase of the sintering aids pre-reacted at $1400^{\circ}C$ was $\alpha$ - $Y_2$$SiO_2$>$O_7$. Y-N apatite was co-existed in the Si-40N sintering aid because of its high content of N. During the sintering process, liquid phases were formed by the reaction between additives and alumina, and these liquid phases promote the densification of alumina. SEM micrographs showed that uniform grain growth occurred in the system with oxide additive(Si-0N). In the case of oxynitride additive system(Si-20N and Si-40N), bimodal microstructure was observed due to the exaggerated grain growth, As the nitrogen content in the additive system increased the exaggerated grain growth occurred extensively. Bloating, which seemed to be originated by the liberation of $N_2$ gas, occurred un the Si-40N oxynitride additive system.
The gut is the largest organ that helps with the immune function. Gut health, especially in young pigs has a significant benefit to health and performance. In an attempt to maintain and enhance intestinal health in pigs and improve productivity in the absence of in-feed antibiotics, researchers have evaluated a wide range of feed additives. Some of these additives such as zinc oxide, copper sulphate, egg yolk antibodies, mannan-oligosaccharides and spray dried porcine plasma and their effectiveness are discussed in this review. One approach to evaluate the effectiveness of these additives in vivo is to use an appropriate disease challenge model. Over the years, researchers have used a number of challenge models which include the use of specific strains of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli, bacteria lipopolysaccharide challenge, oral challenge with Salmonella enteric serotype Typhimurium, sanitation challenge, and Lawsonia intercellularis challenge. These challenge models together with the criteria used to evaluate the responses of the animals to them are also discussed in this review.
The objective of this study is to develop cleaning agents for the indoor water supply pipe which is environmentally friendly and suitable for removing scale by using various organic acids, inorganic acids, and some additives. Among various organic acids, oxalic acid, citric acid, and malic acid showed good cleaning efficiency of iron oxides which were main components of the indoor water supply pipe scale. Several cleaning agents were formulated by adding chemical additives into these organic acids and evaluated for removal of iron oxides. In this study, it was found that nonionic surfactants were excellent for the removal of iron oxide scale among various additives. Two types of cleaning agents($F_1$, $F_2$) with comparatively high solvent power for iron oxides were formulated in this study. The cleaning agents $F_1$ made by organic acids and some additives were formulated to be safe and environmentally friendly, but seemed to have disadvantage due to their comparatively low cleaning efficiency of iron oxide than $F_2$. But, the cleaning agents $F_2$ prepared by adding inorganic acid a little to $F_1$ showed comparatively good cleaning efficiency of iron oxide and could be recommended for removing hard scale of iron oxides in the indoor water supply pipe. Thus, it is considered that the formulated cleaning agents should be selected based on the extent of scale in the indoor water supply pipe.

Zinc oxide of hexagonal wurzite, is known as n-type semiconductor. It has a wide band gap energy of 3.37 eV and large exciton binding energy of 60 meV. It can be widely applied to gas sensors, laser diodes, dye-sensitized solar cells and degradation of dye waste. The use of microwave hydrothermal synthesis brings a rapid reaction rate, high yield, and energy saving. Amine additives control the different particle shapes because of the chelate effect and formation of hydroxide ion. In this study, zinc nitrate hexahydrate was used as zinc precursor. In addition, ethanolamine, ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, and hexamethylenetetramine are used as shape control agent. The pH value was controlled as 11 by NaOH. The shapes of zinc oxide are star-like, rod, flower-like, and circular cone. In order to analyze physical, chemical, and optical properties of ZnO with diverse amine additives, we used XRD, SEM, EDS, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and PL spectroscopy.
