  • For this study, the sol gel method was used to synthesize the spinel LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO) electrode material. Structural, morphological, electrochemical, and kinetic aspects of the LNMO have been characterized. The synthesized LNMO was indexed with the Fd3m cubic space group. The excellent capacity retention indicates that the spinel framework of LNMO has the ability to withstand high rate charge-discharge throughout long cycle tests. The Li diffusion coefficient (DLi) changes non-monotonically across three orders of magnitude, from 10-9 to 10-12 cm2 s-1 determined from GITT method. The variation of DLi seemed to be related to three oxidation reactions that happened throughout the charging process. A small dip in DLi at the beginning stage of Li deintercalation is correlated with the oxidation of Mn3+ to Mn4+. While two pronounced DLi minima at 4.7 V and 4.75 V are due to the oxidation of Ni2+/Ni3+ and Ni3+/Ni4+ respectively. The depletion of DLi at the high voltage region is attributed to the occurrence of two successive phase transformation phenomena.

  • The redox properties of benzophydroxamic acid (Hben) and its oxovanadium complex, $VO(Ben)_2$ has been studied by the use of polarograpy and cyclic voltammetry. The radical anions of Hben seem to be generated in acetone. The wave at -0.05V vs. Ag/AgCl electrode might be attributed to the formation of radical anion and the wave at -1.78V vs. Ag/AgCl electrode might be attributed the formation of radical dianion. The $VO(Ben)_2$ exhibits one oxidation wave at + 0.55V and two reduction waves at -0.15V and -1.30V vs. Ag/AgCl electrode; the oxidation is reversible one electron process $(VO(ben)_2 {\rightleftharpoons} VO(ben)^+ + e)$. The reduction wave at -0.15V is quasireversible and is arised from the formation of radical anion,$VO(Ben)_2^-$. The second reduction wave at -1.30V is irreversible and this reduction process produces vanadium(III). This oxygen containing ligand of Hben seems to reduce the stability of + 4 oxidation state of vanadium while the sulfur or nitrogen donor of the ligands stabilize the + 4 oxidation state of vanadium when comparisons are made among several oxovanadium complexes.

  • The objective of this study is the development of carbon recycle technology which converts $CO_2$ captured from flue gas to CO or carbon and reuse in industrial fields. Since $CO_2$ is very stable and difficult to decompose, metal oxide was used as an activation agent for the decomposition of $CO_2$ at low temperature. Metal oxides which convert $CO_2$ to CO or carbon at $500^{\circ}C$ were prepared using Zn-ferrite by the solid state reaction and hydrothermal synthesis. The behaviors of $CO_2$ decomposition were studied using temperature programmed reduction/oxidation (TPR/TPO) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). Zn-ferrite containing 5 wt% ZnO showed the largest reduction and oxidation. Reduction by $H_2$ was 26.53 wt%, oxidation by $CO_2$ was 25.73 wt% and 96.98% of adsorbed $CO_2$ was decomposed to $CO_2$ and carbon with excellent oxidation-reduction behaviors.

  • Modern society spends more than 80% of its daily life indoors, emphasizing the need for attention to indoor air pollution due to the improvement in living standards. In this study, the performance and reaction characteristics of the Pt/TiO2 catalysts prepared by liquid-phase reduction for the removal of formaldehyde (HCHO), one of the indoor air pollutants, at room temperature without the need for additional light or heat were investigated. As a result, it showed that catalysts prepared by the same method showed approximately 40~80% various activities depending on the type of TiO2. XRD, BET, and XPS analyses were performed to investigate the particle size, crystal structure, specific surface area, and O/Ti molar ratio of the support material, and it revealed that the correlation between the properties and performance was insignificant. To explore the oxidation reaction pathway of formaldehyde (HCHO), in situ DRIFT analysis using carbon monoxide and H2-TPR was perfomed. The results revealed that the performance was demonstrated by the oxidation state of the active metal and the adsorption-desorption characteristics of the adsorbate species.

  • In this study, we evaluated the CH4 and CO conversion efficiencies over the oxidation catalysts for natural gas vehicle with lean-burn system. On the fresh catalyst, the conversion efficiency was increased when the loading of precious metal was increased. On the aged catalyst, the conversion efficiency was decreased as increasing the excess air ratio. We could confirm the measuring conversion efficiency of the unsteady state with the FTIR and that of steady state with the GC The temperature increasing ratio of unsteady state is acceptable from 3$^{\circ}C$/min. to 15$^{\circ}C$/min. for the evaluation of catalyst conversion performance , which has within the 4$\%$ of the difference of conversion efficiency. We observed a physical behavior of the thermal aged catalyst's surface using TEM and BET device. It was found that the precious metal was grown to the micro-scopic size by thermal aging process.

  • Isotactic polyacrylonitrile (PAN) with triad isotacticity of 0.53, which was determined by $^{13}C$ NMR, using dialkylmagnesium as an initiator, was successfully synthesized. Isothermal treatment of iso-PAN was conducted in air at 200, 220, 250 and $280^{\circ}C$. Structural evolutions and chemical changes were studied with Fourier transformation infrared and wide-angle X-ray diffraction during stabilization. A new parameter $CNF={I_{2240cm}}^{-1}/ ({I_{1595cm}}^{-1}+f^*{I_{1595cm}}^{-1})$ was defined to evaluate residual nitrile groups. Crystallinity and crystal size were calculated with X-ray diffraction dates. The results indicated that the nitrile groups had partly converted into a ladder structure as stabilization proceeded. The rate of reaction increased with treatment temperature; crystallinity and crystal size decreased proportionally to pyrolysis temperature. The iso-conversional method coupled with the Kissinger and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa methods were used to determine kinetic parameters via differential scanning calorimetry analysis with different heating rates. The active energy of the reaction was 171.1 and 169.1 kJ/mol, calculated with the two methods respectively and implied the sensitivity of the reaction with temperature.

  • In immature seeds of Phaseolus vulgaris, the presence of threee new 2-deoxy type brassinosteroids (trihydroxybrassinosteroids) have been demonstrated. These less polar brassinosteroids have been demonstrated. These less polar brassinosteroids have been tentatively characterized to be (3ξ, 22ξ, 23ξ)-2-deoxy-25-methylodolicholide, (3ξ, 22ξ, 23ξ)-2-deoxoy-dolichosterone and (3ξ, 22ξ, 23ξ)-2-deoxy-24-ethylbrassinone by analysis of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Their less biological activity and oxidation state than those of tetrahydroxybrassinosteroids suggest that they are potent biosynthetic precusors of tetrahydroxybrassinosteroids.

  • Diterpenoids contain only 20 carbon atoms, and the plants that have been examined for diterpenoids are less numerous. However, a greater variety of the possible cyclization and oxidation patterns has been observed in the diterpenoids. Thus the list of known structures is large. The diterpenoids have often been found in two antipodal forms. Our present state of knowledge does not allow us to draw any conclusions from the distributions of these configurations.
