Minerals separated from irradiated dried red pepper (whole) at 2.5 kGy or higher showed typical thermoluminescence (TL) glow curves ($TL_1$) at around $150^{\circ}C$, which increased with irradiation dose. The TL ratio ($TL_1/TL_2$) through re-irradiation step at 1 kGy enhanced reliability of TL identification results. DNA comet assay indicated that the intact cell was observed in non-irradiated pepper (seed), while some long tails were found in irradiated ones, showing relationship between irradiation dose and tail length. Log DEPT/APC values increased in proportion to irradiation doses in powdered and whole peppers. Based on overall results, irradiated dried red peppers could be screened using DNA comet assay or log DEFT/APC, and moreover the identification results were verified by TL analysis.
In a railway vehicle, corrugated steel panel is widely used for the floor panel because of its high bending stiffness and light weight. However, this panel shows lower sound insulation performance than that of the plate with the same weight. Especially, in a particular frequency band, transmission loss (TL) rapidly decreases and it results in the deterioration of TL of the overall floor panel. This study identifies that the remarkable drop in TL is caused from the local resonance of the periodic corrugated structure. This study shows that the frequency band of the TL drop can be controlled by the proper design of the corrugated structure. In addition, improvement effect of TL by attaching foam and glass wool is estimated by experiment. The purpose of the study is to provide the practical information for the improvement of the sound insulation performance of the corrugated steel.

Objectives: The objective of the present study was to validate a shortened transformational leadership (TL) scale (12 items) comprising core TL behaviour and to test the associations of this shortened TL scale with depressive symptoms. Methods: The study used cross-sectional data from 1632 employees of the overall workforce of a middle-sized German company (51.6% men; mean age, 41.35 years; standard deviation, 9.4 years). TL was assessed with the German version of the Transformational Leadership Inventory and depressive symptoms with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). The structural validity of the core TL scale was assessed with confirmatory factor analysis. Associations with depressive symptoms were estimated with structural equation modelling and adjusted logistic regression. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling showed better model fit for the core TL than for the full TL score. Logistic regression revealed 3.61-fold (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.20 to 5.93: women) to 4.46-fold (95% CI, 2.86 to 6.95: men) increased odds of reporting depressive symptoms (HADS score >8) for those in the lowest tertile of reported core TL. Conclusions: The shortened core TL seems to be a valid instrument for research and training purposes in the context of TL and depressive symptoms in employees. Of particular note, men reporting poor TL were more likely to report depressive symptoms.
This study was performed to investigate PSL and TL characteristics for the detection of different ratios of gamma-irradiated turmeric. It was possible to determine PSL and TL of 1- and 10-kGy irradiated turmeric. The TL ratios ($TL_1/TL_2$) of non-irradiated samples were lower than 0.001, while those of irradiated samples were higher than 0.355. In the PSL results, blended samples containing irradiated ingredients showed intermediate values for a 1% blending rate. Furthermore, TL analysis of blended samples seems to offer a promising method for irradiation identification by TL glow curve form and temperature range. The 1- and 10-kGy irradiated samples were able to be detected above a 4% blending rate. However, the TL ratio appeared as a threshold value below 0.1 for irradiated samples. Overall, TL analysis identified 4% blended samples containing gamma-irradiated turmeric.

In a railway vehicle, corrugated steel panel is widely used for the floor structure because of its high bending stiffness and light weight. However, this panel shows lower sound insulation performance than that of the flat plate with the same weight. Especially, in a particular frequency region, transmission loss(TL) rapidly decreases and it results in the deterioration of sound insulation performance of the overall floor structure. This study identifies that the severe decrease in TL is caused from the local resonance of the periodic corrugated structure. TL decrease by local resonance is investigated by experiment and finite element analysis. Finally, design modification of the corrugation is proposed to improve TL and the effect is verified by experiment.
Sintered LiF:Mg,Cu,Na,Si thermoluminescence (TL) pellets were developed for application in radiation dosimetry. In the present study, the TL dosimetric properties of LiF:Mg,Cu,Na,Si TL pellets have been investigated for emission spectrum, dose response, energy response, and fading characteristics. LiF:Mg,Cu,Na,Si TL pellets were made by using a sintering process, that is, pressing and heat treatment from TL powders. Photon irradiations for the experiments were carried out using X-ray beams and a $^{137}Cs$ gamma source at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). The average energies and the dose were in the range of 20-662 keV and $10^{-6}-10^{-2}\;Gy$, respectively. The glow curves were measured with a manual type TLD reader(System 310, Teledyne) at a constant nitrogen flux and a linear heating rate. For a constant heating rate of $5^{\circ}C\;s^{-1}$, the main dosimetric peak of glow curve appeared at $234^{\circ}C$, the activation energy was 2.34 eV and frequency factor was $1.00{\times}10^{23}$. TL emission spectrum is appeared at the blue region centered at 410 nm. A linearity of photon dose response was maintained up to 100 Gy. The photon energy responses relative to $^{137}Cs$ response were within ${\pm}20%$ at overall photon energy region. The fading of TL sensitivity of the pellets stored at the room temperature was not found for one year.
In this paper, the interference in small MIMO antennas having two identical composite right- and left-handed transmission-line(CRLH-TL)-based radiating elements is remarkably decreased. The radiating element has the broadside-capacitive coupling as well as slots to be equivalent to the CRLH-TL to prevent the size from increasing for an LTE high band. The suspended line bridging the two radiating elements is optimized to lower the interference between them down to -23 dB, while the overall MIMO antenna system is compact and its antenna performance is acceptable. The design is tested for 2.5 GHz.

Micro-columnar CsI(Tl) is the most popular scintillator material which is used for many indirect digital X-ray imaging detectors. The light scattering at the surface of micro-columnar CsI(Tl) scintillator was studied to find the correlation between the surface roughness and the resultant image resolution of indirect X-ray imaging detectors. Using a commercially available optical simulation program, Light Tools, MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) curves of the CsI(Tl) film thermally evaporated on glass substrate with different thickness were calculated and compared with the experimental estimation of MTF values by the edge X-ray image method and CCD camera. It was found that the standard deviation value of Gaussian scattering model which is determined by the surface roughness of micro-columns could certainly change the MTF value of image sensors. This model and calculation methodology will be beneficial to estimate the overall performance of indirect X-ray imaging system with CsI(Tl) scintillator film for optimum design depending on its application.

Dedicated single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) systems based on pixelated semiconductors are being developed for studying small animal models of human disease. To clarify the possibility of using a SPECT system with CdTe for a high resolution low-dose small animal imaging, we compared the quality of reconstructed images from pixelated CdTe detector to those from a small SPECT system with NaI(Tl). The CdTe detector was $44.8{\times}44.8$ mm and the pixels were $0.35{\times}0.35{\times}5$ mm. The intrinsic resolution of the detector was 0.35 mm, which is equal to the pixel size. GATE simulations were performed to assess the image quality of both SPECT systems. The spatial resolutions and sensitivities for both systems were evaluated using a 10 MBq $^{99m}Tc$ point source. The quantitative comparison with different injected dose was performed using a voxelized MOBY phantom, and the absorbed doses for each organ were evaluated. The spatial resolution of the SPECT with NaI(Tl) was about 1.54 mm FWHM, while that of the SPECT with a CdTe detector was about 1.32 mm FWHM at 30 mm. The sensitivity of NaI(Tl) based SPECT was 83 cps/MBq, while that of the CdTe detector based SPECT was 116 cps/MBq at 30 mm. The image statistics were evaluated by calculating the CNR of the image from both systems. When the injected activity for the striatum in the mouse brain was 160 Bq/voxel, the CNR of CdTe based SPECT was 2.30 while that of NaI(Tl) based SPECT was 1.85. The CNR of SPECT with CdTe was overall higher than that of the NaI(Tl) based SPECT. In addition, the absorbed dose was higher from SPECT with CdTe than those from NaI(Tl) based SPECT to acquire the same quantitative values. Our simulation results indicated that the SPECT with CdTe detector showed overall high performance compared to the SPECT with NaI(Tl). Even though the validation study is needed, the SPECT system with CdTe detector appeared to be feasible for high resolution low-dose small animal imaging.
The design of a new compact UWB bandpass filter is proposed, which has cascaded center-tapped microstrip composite right/left-handed transmission-line zeroth-order resonators (CRLH-TL ZORs). In an attempt to reduce the size, instead of the conventional half-wavelength resonators or periodic and multiple CRLH-TL cells, only one cell ZOR geometry is adopted as each resonator in the filter. Additionally, two center-tapped ZORs are coupled to increase the slope of the skirt. Besides, stepped impedance matching parts are placed in the paths to the input and output ports to enhance passband and stopband performances. The proposed filter is shown to have the overall size of $0.69{\lambda}_g{\times}0.70{\lambda}_g$, the insertion loss much less than 1 dB, and an acceptable return loss performance in the predicted and measured results.
